The guy in front of me was facing the same direction I was, but he was pumping his own gas in a clearly marked full service pump. Then it was my turn. I was just hoping that no one would pull in front of me, facing me as the self serve sign would have you do. I just don't understand why they couldn't have 2 islands as self serve and 2 islands as full serve. Confused? Join the club!

Since self-service has been made available in Oregon, I do tend to hit that side and pump my own gas. Employees do constantly check on self-service users to make sure they are doing alright and if not, they assist without hesitation. What I found that really helps get through the self-service pumps is to use the Kroger-Pay inside the Fred Meyer app. It is way easier than using their slow computer screens on the pump, it takes in account your reward points and charges the credit card you have setup in the app. I can start pumping in usually a few seconds after I add the pump number. This also works if you go to full-service and the attendants love it when you do. Lastly the price at Fred Meyer is not as good as Costco, but the lines can be shorter, and it is usually cheaper than any other place nearby.

I don't know what Costco could do to fix this. Maybe install a few more pumps? It's already a pretty big location. Hiring more workers could help. And getting some of the attendants to shift out of low gear would definitely help. I get it that it's a boring, mostly unfulfilling occupation. But when I was a kid I worked at a gas station and could get large numbers of vehicles fueled and on their way quickly... which included checking the oil/tires, cleaning windshields and so on. Costco attendants do none of those things. So you can definitely save some dough getting your fuel here but plan on spending some time waiting in line idling before you close to a pump. I have disconnected tendons and just standing on a hard surface floor for an hour grocery shopping is pretty exhausting since my disability means I have next to no cushion on the bottom of my feet so bone against hard floor. This store is arranged pretty well too so that you can actually find things pretty easily though the employees all seemed eager to help out when I needed it! They do have some pretty great sales on things so stalking their pricing might help out quite a bit. I also was impressed at the freshness of the produce and bakery goods.

Even when we were the most tragic as far as the gas prices go, I was still way less at the pump than most cars since I have had 7 gallon tanks. I still tried to go back and forth between gas points pricing at Fred Meyer and my Costco membership... I refuse to negotiate getting cash to try to save money going to Arco since you then have to deal with going to (AND INTO SINCE CASH WHICH ADDS TO THE FUCK NO) and also dealing with the folks who angrily work and Arco and discover why they are so mad since you also get to deal with the other customers. I then started doing delivery driving so I am not just filling my tank a whole lot more BUT I need to watch my money more and am EVERYWHERE. Of course there are many main streets which I am often on. But I see A LOT of gas stations and notice the price differences which are pretty sizeable. There are certain gas stops which just have better prices. I filled up at what I thought was the lowest (Astro) and five minutes later I drive past Space Age which was nearly ten cents cheaper! SHOCKING... but instead of plugging in Astro first I go for Space Age. I did exactly that this time and then discovered this gas station was so close for so long that I genuinely just found the other day. Even better is that people in Oregon are not used to self serve so they all sit in line waiting for someone to do it for them. Take advantage while you can, like I did and roll right up to a self service pump and then out. Unlike Astro, they have a snack station too. I cannot report on that as I just grabbed some gas.
