My husband was diagnosed with glaucoma but Dr. Hodges told him he was out of treatment options so his vision became severely degraded. Dr. Hodges seemed kind and personable but dismissed our concerns and told us there was nothing that could be done. Out of frustration about our continued vision loss, we set up an appointment with another ophthalmologist for a second opinion. She disagreed with Dr Hodges' assessment - she immediately changed eye meds, provided lots of options, and much more hope, for saving our vision. Already we are seeing better, but unfortunately, you can't turn back all the existing damage. We wasted much too much time and we lost way too much of our vision trusting Dr. Hodges.

What was left out of the explanation was: 1) How dry my eyes would be and that I would have to use expensive Eye drops for the rest of my life to counteract the dryness, 2) That my vision up close and mid-range (to read my laptop) would now require reading glasses. So, I was basically trading off having to use glasses to see at distance; to having to use glasses for up close reading and mid-range reading. In all the procedure was painless although expensive, I saved for two years for this procedure. If you were to ask me if I would do it again? The answer would be no; due to the lifelong side effects of the poor up close vision and having to use expensive eye drops several times a day. Remember this is one man's experience and other people's experience may differ.

The last place I went to, years ago, nearer my home in Westminster, featured an aging German couple who started out lacking any sense of customer service, and degenerated into outright hostility when it came down to working with insurance. So, having no clue where to start ... I walked into an "optician" shop not too far from downtown Frederick - and they only did glasses, but said they'd made plenty of referrals and got back plenty of raves for the eye exam by Dr. John. Sure enough, Dr. John not only gave me the exam, he gave full explanation of everything he was doing, including checks for health issues not directly related to vision (did you know they can spot early indications of diabetes, MS, kidney issues, and more from an eye exam??). Dr. John also answered lots of questions and worked through various scenarios on how I'd actually use the glasses (e.g. computer screen, skiing, whatever), to come up with a good solution. Plus it's no fuss - the exam fee includes all my follow up visits while I'm trying out some contacts. Recommended.

This office is nice and quiet and truly a "hidden gem." I recently to went Dr. Padmini Nathan's office because, I scratched my cornea and I was unable to get an appointment for an emergency examination anywhere else. Of the three offices that I contacted this one was the only one that offered me an opening to come in. Although, I had to wait until the following day it was worth it. In the interim I went to the ER, and followed up with their office the next day. My appointment was scheduled with Dr. Sydney Cooper, and I want to say, "she's amazing!" She made me feel at ease and she took my situation very seriously. She was very thorough in her examination, and with that said, she is going to follow up with my Primary Care Physician to ensure that I have lab work completed to rule out any underlying health issues that may be affecting my eye. I was so impressed because, this is the kind of continuity of care and communication amongst a patient's team of health professionals that is so needed and important.
