$40.00 for a 24 pack of Modelo! Whooowee! Loved their clearance section by the frozen food department. Found my favorite peach rings gummies for $0.47! Score! I got Wisconsin cheese curds. I can't wait to try them. If you need something in pinch and don't wanna go to Lincoln City or Newport to get it. Chester's your guy. read more

Chester's Markets - Yum! - Grocery Near Me - Depoe Bay, Oregon

See all

Medium sized local market for grocery and pantry needs. They also have a deli and some fresh made basic bread on a shelf. The produce variety is actually quite good and fresh. People were friendly there. Conveniently located off a highway, easy to get in and out. Plus, the bathroom is well maintained and clean. read more

We stop here when visiting Lincoln City. We often cook rather than eat out, since restaurants are so expensive at the beach. They are a small grocery store but have most everything you could needed. The produce is nice quality. We even purchased seafood here. Friendly checkers that take the time to chat a bit while checking out. read more

Chester's is awesome. Great customer service from the staff. Stopped in on a night where a local artist was having a meet and greet/signing. Picked up some graphic novels for the kids along with some great groceries. Try the fried chicken from the deli when you go read more

I love Chester's it's old fashioned which is what I love about it!!! The deli is adorable and there are many great choices. The aisles are packed with great items and unique items and the check out area is so cute!! It's such a fun grocery store to go to in the summer!!! read more

Everyone is very helpful! You feel good that you shopped there! Very clean store! I will go back !

For the area visitor: If you are need of anything between a sight seeing visit and your home port this is may be just the stop for you. It's a well stocked grocery store that is clean and the folks working here are friendly. Wood can even be purchased here. It's $5 and the bundle is the same as you would get at any of the local state parks. Anyhow, a good spot to grab necessities as needed. read more

Chester's Markets - a car parked in front of the store - Grocery Near Me - Depoe Bay, Oregon

After losing my little be brother tragically it 1 month ago, we went on this trip in his memory and his love of the fishing & outdoors. We stayed in Glen Eden and this was the closest grocery store. We were excited to be in a new town And stopped in at the only place close and open to the WorldMark Gleneden. I thought this just could be my paranoia but I swear that the white lady at the counter does not like minorities. Being from out of town we were met with eye rolls when we first walked into the store. I saw her walk over to one of her coworkers pointed us and start talking about us. We tried to let it roll because we needed groceries and it's the only place close to where we're staying. However they made it really uncomfortable to be in the store and I hate hate hate being put in these stupid ass situations. Just letting you know if you're brown or black you might want to keep it moving and go somewhere else. It is with the heavy heart that I report this because some of Oregon again seems really cool. Just not this place. When you been in situations before where people treat you differently because the color of your skin, going to places like this can be triggering. I'm telling you it'll kill your vibe Just keep it moving and go to a different store. Also after this incident I started looking into the history of Oregon and they have not treated my native American brothers and sisters very well even till now so this does not surprise me. The incident happened on Tuesday May 23rd. It was The closing shift. The lady was an older caucasian female who was manning the cash registers. If you're staying at the WorldMark GlenEden like us, I recommend going to get your groceries up in Lincoln, you'll be more accepted there and The people in Lincoln are more friendly. read more

A little bit of everything and close to the beach. A little spendy in part because of the location I guess. Fast and riendly service.

I live in the area. Although this is not where I get the majority of my groceries based on price, I go there often. There are several things they get an A+ on: -nice/friendly staff -good selection for a small market -fresh dairy, produce and meats -clean store -good food counter with great chicken tenders and fresh made sandwiches -excellent produce at their tent sales!! This place is an unexpected gem of a market!! read more

this is our second time coming all the way down here for their fried chicken! delicious and crispy, service is amazing. such cute and nice employee!! love this place read more

We've visited this particular Thriftway during our stays at WorldMark Depoe Bay - The Resort at Whale Pointe back 2013 and two stops recently on 4/19/15 and 4/21/15. Yes, there's WalMart, Fred Meyer, and Safeway in Newport. However, this Thriftway has a small community feel and a great selection of just about everything you need during a brief or extended stay. A plus is their friendly and efficient checkout staff! read more

every time I go in there everyone is so nice. The weekly sales make up for the generally high prices.

I would drive the extra few miles to Lincoln City where you have a good selection and better prices! This store is high priced and dingy. The service is not good and as I stated, there is no ambiance. It is cluttered and messy. read more

Went today to get some of that great fried chicken for lunch. When I got there the display cabinet was empty. the guy said there would be more chicken in 20 minutes. At 12:30???!!! It's lunchtime, very disappointing. read more

great people grocery manager is really kind and helpful this place has definitely changed for the better last year in may it was not the best I'm not sure what changed but it's so much better now read more

This market is has a decent selection of grocery items, and the prices are a bit high but it is a nice alternative for when you dont want to drive further than needed! They have a nice selection of meats, produce, canned goods, drinks, baked goods, and some seafood! read more

Overpriced food and staff that all seem to not want to be there. The only thing it has going for it is location, but even that will only go so far.... read more

Great Selection but most expensive food market I've ever been too. Food for 2 days total came out to $380

I was really impressed with the selection here. I ended up getting some cinnamon roll bread from their bakery for French toast, Greek yogurt, and some really tasty bananas. They had a surprising offering of produce, which was nice to see in a touristy area. Prices were really reasonable. Pretty on par with stores you'd find in the valley. Plus, they had a sale on Ben & Jerry's \m/ The employees were all super friendly, and even chatted me up at various times during my shopping expedition. I'll definitely shop here again when I'm back in town. read more

Limited selection but it was a nice easy spot to grab a few snacks to take back to our hotel room. The cashier was super sweet and it was honestly the least painful small talk i have engaged in for years. The 4 stars are really for them and their amazing bolo tie alone. read more

Stopped at Chester's to stock up the hotel fridge when we arrived in town. Their variety of products offered was nice and my daughters LOVED their muffins from the bakery dept. The service was friendly and the cashier was sweet enough to give me some recommendations for local places to eat....and those were winners! read more

I love the store, it's clean well staffed and very pet friendly. I am happy I was able to go in with my elderly senior dog , and grab us some dinner. Thank you will be coming back often. I too am you're neighbor. read more

This is a great market with everything we needed for our stay at WorldMark, Depoe Bay! Food is decently priced. They had plenty of produce choices and a few great sales! Bing cherries in January for 1.99/pound and strawberries 2 pounds for $5. These are things I appreciate from a supermarket! They even had self-rising flour that I was seeking, which I wasn't sure they would stock. read more

Not bad for a small grocery store out in the middle of "somewhat" nowhere... (This coming from a big city gal). They have everything you need, fresh produce, meat, baked goods, pastas, frozen things, etc. And the most exciting wine! Yay! Bottom line, whatever you need, they're going to have it. The only two things I didn't like was the the prices were on average ~ 10-15% more expensive than most places I would shop (which makes sense because they are the only store for a few miles) and not all of the staff are friendly. Majority of the staff walking around the store seemed very upset and not happy to see customers. There was only ONE person who was friendly and he was our checker. He was really the only reason I would return because he was very nice and we had a pleasant interaction. read more

Apparently Chesters misunderstood my previous review on lack of face masks. I made reference to EMPLOYEES not wearing masks as mandated by the state, not customers. read more

Facial mask mandate not enforced here. We filed a report with the state and were told they have other reports filed and are investigating.

Really disappointed when I cut into my brick of ground beef I bought today. They obviously took old grey meat and covered it with a thin layer of fresh. Won't be shopping at Chester's anymore. read more

I stopped here almost exactly 1 year ago today for a family trip to Lincoln City, which I reviewed. Same thing, lots of sale items and the produce looked really good, again. Today's trip was memorable as I asked the cashier as we are checking out of they had a soda fountain machine as I needed to buy just a large cups worth of ice for a very small drink cooler to take to the beach. A 7lb bag would be all wasted. She said no, but did ask if I had something to put ice in, she would get me some. I had a new kids beach bucket in the car, brought it in and she went to the deli area and filled it up with ice! I didn't catch her name but she was at the first register around 11am on 8/30/17. read more

An employee from this store stopped to help me when I had car trouble. She was on her way home from work and not only stopped to check on me, but followed me all the rest of the way into Lincoln City. I appreciate this kindness so much and cannot help but think that CHESTER's Thriftway is very lucky to have her working there. I think the store is probably really good too ! ;) read more

Limited grocery selection but the excellent customer service from the employees make a visitor feel welcome and cared for. I watched Mark and Mary patiently help my 2 elderly parents and answered all their questions about things to do in the area. The night before, a young woman who just moved to the area did not know the answer to my question and she went out of her way to find the answer. They were all very kind and helpful. read more

What a welcome surprise this place is! We're visiting, and due to numerous eating sensitivities, (Vegetarian, gluten sensitive, dairy sensitive - you name it, we got it) we tried to bring everything with us. Naturally, several key items fell through. In my experience, small stores in small remote towns don't generally cater to our range of necessities, but I was able to get gluten free bread, and my choice of Silk or Almond Breeze almond milk, soy milk, coconut milk or some combination thereof. I also had not trouble getting the absolutely-necessary-on-any-vacation popcorn kernels (less of a surprise, but you never know). Good wine selection. Finally, not one, but two options for locally roasted coffee beans, ground or whole bean, and date stamped. Oh, be still, my food-snob heart! Also, random: live east coast lobsters. Because. PS - if, like me, you discovered your lack of breakfast foods at very inopportune time, you may also be interested to know that there is a coffee shop right next door. read more

It seems like I can shop here twice before having to take months off from this place. My last encounter was buying a gift card for Christmas, which wasn't "in the system". It took three visits to get it fixed because the bumbling morons who work there don't know how to do anything. Tried to go back today, three months later, for a half gallon of milk. Was tail-gated by an employee's ride (therefor removing ALL responsibility from the employee?!) for about 2.5 miles on a windy, narrow, riverside road. She tore out of the parking lot when I tried to talk to her, and when I confronted the employee, INSIDE THE STORE! for this... HE YELLED AT ME TO STOP HARASSING HIM!! And management stood around and watched! I will be following up with corporate. How come Pacific City gets the shit-hole and Manzanita gets the showroom??? read more

This is the smallest of the local grocery stores I've been to on the coast, and the only one in Depoe Bay -- it's about the size of 3 convenience stores -- the size markets were 40 years ago, before mega marts, superstores, and one-stop-shopping dominated the street. Definately a "step in" market. Lots of beer/mixers to cater to vacationers and weekenders, but also good looking produce -- spring is good for fruit and veggie sales. Dairy and bread were fresh, aisles were well stocked with enough variety to do my shopping, and even a satisfactory array of frozen veggies (and ice cream) -- though I didn't find a single grapefruit in the produce section.... which is a deal breaker for me. The food from the deli counter smelled good -- I'm guessing pic-nic folks can find enough fried goodies and chips to make a good afternoon at the beach! read more

Worst produce in town! Dead organic carrots for $3.99 a bunch. I'm a local and you can get better produce at any other store in Lincoln City! read more

Chester's Markets - Look at these carrots! This is not unusual in the produce section. Today they have cauliflower at $4.00 a pound. Seriously? - Grocery Near Me - Depoe Bay, Oregon

My wife and I just entered the Thriftway and purchased some fresh nectarines for my mother who needed to eat some fruit to increase her blood sugar. We used her state food card because she did not feel up to getting out, in the rain. Upon checkout I am still not entirely sure if Teresa was being rude to me as well. Pretty sure she was letting me know that east coasters were below common Oregonians. When we were driving away mom had to spit out some of her peach because the insides were brown and stringy. My wife went back into exchange the fruit and the young man that checked us out was going to exchange it. Teresa wanted to help my wife and when she did so she told her that since we purchased it with a food card we could not give money back. She also said she could not return the food according to Oregon State Law. She did allow us to get equal amount of another fruit and saw to it to explain the math regarding the difference per weight. My wife is sure she was being treated as though basic math and currency skills were beyond her. My wife ask the employee who checked us out the first time if Teresa was like this all the time. He looked nervous to answer. (Probably wanted to keep his job since Teresa apparently is a supervisor). While my wife was choosing her second choice of fruit Teresa was shaking the rotten fruit at another customer while talking to them. Wonder what derogatory comment she made. This visit was surprising to me. I think I will not visit this little store anymore. I will go back to salt lake and forget about Teresa and continue my career and raise my family. The other people who work here and the customers hopefully will prosper. Who ever owns this store will have to make some sort of decision and hopefully it was all just a misunderstanding. read more

This place was absolutely ridiculous. The employees have no urgency are extremely disrespectful. We waited in the seafood section for 45 minutes waiting for someone to help us with the seafood. The store is located in a prime location, but the employees and overall mindset of the store is terrible. I will never be returning to Chester's market. read more

Clean store. Staff always friendly. They have a good selection. This is our go to store here.

For customer service alone. Friendly helpful staff. Made the trip with small kids a little more bearable. Checker involved our kids with helping out with the bags and they loved that. We got fried food from the deli and some snack food. Small ocean town store so you can only expect the prices to be a bit on the higher side. read more

Prices that you should expect at a small freestanding grocery store on the Oregon coast. The next grocery stores are 10+ Miles in either direction A good deli, veggies, fresh (live) lobsters and local seafood. Their chicken tenders are all white meat, big chunks, and delish! If you want cheaper beer...go into Lincoln City or Newport. Or tote your own. Suds are always more spendy in those little food outlets on the Coast! Sorry! read more
