Pretty disappointing experience @ Safeway in Newport, OR…read more This store was a ghost town with a lone employee and maybe one or two other customers. It was on the smaller side of Safeway stores, but clean and organized throughout. We stopped here on Sunday afternoon, St. Patrick's Day to get a sweet treat. The bakery section was underwhelming to say the least. They only had 3 or 4 containers of sugar cookies with key lime icing, one container of pistachio pound cake slices, and one decent looking slice of a layered cake with the holiday theme and I was interested in the latter, BUT the top wasn't shut and securely sealed to the bottom. So yeah, no one wants that. The only employee present in the store eventually showed up to the only lit register for us to purchase what we settled for, which was a small container of assorted cookies and a pint of ice cream. I've…read morecalled customer service multiple times and they tell me they can't do anything about my complaints--go online or use the phone number I'm told, after the woman sighs in my ear repeatedly. I've written the corporate office. They don't respond. I use the online shopping and pick up option because I have a disability and shopping is more than I can handle most days. I'm literally at the mercy of the people shopping for me...I leave polite notes asking for specific sizes or ripeness of my produce. I am repeatedly ignored and cannot get what I have requested. Ads on TV stating "Produce that is fresher than fresh"? That is the biggest farce I have ever heard. My produce is either hard as a rock--unripe and inedible, or it's so overripe it's mush. I receive smashed, moldy berries regularly. I bought a cucumber--it was bendy. I bought another one a few days later. Guess what?? It was bendy too. Aren't cucumbers supposed to be crisp? Crunchy even? Not at Fred Meyer in Newport, OR. I bought 2 pounds of green beans--figuring I wouldn't get quality beans. I was not wrong. I received spotty BROWN, hard, dry green beans--about half of them went in the garbage. The employees are choosing these for me, so it's on Kroger. Your produce is an embarrassment to the grocery industry. And your employees are pitifully inadequate. You only stay in business because of the tourists...the locals are fed up with your shameful practices and lack of care for your customers. Reviews prove it.
