Pretty disappointing experience @ Safeway in Newport, OR…read more This store was a ghost town with a lone employee and maybe one or two other customers. It was on the smaller side of Safeway stores, but clean and organized throughout. We stopped here on Sunday afternoon, St. Patrick's Day to get a sweet treat. The bakery section was underwhelming to say the least. They only had 3 or 4 containers of sugar cookies with key lime icing, one container of pistachio pound cake slices, and one decent looking slice of a layered cake with the holiday theme and I was interested in the latter, BUT the top wasn't shut and securely sealed to the bottom. So yeah, no one wants that. The only employee present in the store eventually showed up to the only lit register for us to purchase what we settled for, which was a small container of assorted cookies and a pint of ice cream. On the plus side, the Safeway gentleman was a decent fellow and friendly enough.

This place reminded me of the small grocery store my family frequented when i was a child many years ago. Chester's is a great, slightly small, full service market with prices that are not sky high. A couple of days ago, we stopped to pick up a few things, but most importantly, the new "Tater Bites". They are one of our favorite new items! However, there were none on the shelf. I approached the closest staff member, Tyler and inquired if he knew when they would be available again. I could see that Tyler was already busy putting out new stock and he could have easily just told me that he was unsure. Honestly, I wouldn't have pushed it any further and just checked back later. Instead, he insisted on checking the back stock to see if he could find anymore for us. Unfortunately, there were none available... But, I really appreciated that Tyler was attentive, easily approachable, made eye contact while speaking with us and was so polite. Just one of the many reasons we love the Corvallis location!
