I have used Cherrydale for the last 10 years. The work is always done right, they are honest, and don't do or suggest work that is not necessary. As a woman, sometimes other repair shops and dealers talk down and try to take advantage of that. I have never had that experience at Cherrydale. I also had an incredible experience where they fixed a tire right before I had a trip. It wasn't a huge deal, just a nail and patching, but they did it quickly and didn't charge me. read more

Ladies!! FINALLY found a mechanic I can trust and does not take advantage take advantage of me. I recently moved to the area and was doing my first state inspection. I took it to Joyce Motors prior to visiting here and they said there was $2,000 worth of things to fix in order for me to pass (I drive a very new vehicle.......) I did my state inspection here (PASSED!) and there was something else super minor that needed to be adjusted (honestly cannot remember what it was) and he just took care of it. 10/10 recommend. read more

Have been taking my 2007 Hyundai for many years. The latest time, I had ordered tires from Tire Rack because they had the specific tires I wanted along with a $60 rebate and decided to schedule their mobile service because it was so convenient. Well, the installer found that one stud was stripped during the last tire rotation and couldn't complete the install. I called Cherrydale, they were willing to install the tires I ordered from Tire Rack on the same day, and essentially the same installation fee as the Tire Rack mobile service, and unquestioningly took off the charge for replacing the stud when I pointed out that the damage had likely been done at their shop, albeit 2 YEARS ago. Kudos to Tom for customer service, and we continue to be happy with Cherrydale Motors. read more

As a woman, I am really weary of taking my car into auto shops because so often I get ripped off. I read good reviews about this place so I knew that I needed to take my car in for inspection at this place. When I called in the morning they let me know they were very busy and to stop by in the afternoon. When I got there in the afternoon the parking lot was packed so I was a bit nervous they still wouldn't take me. However, they had an opening right away and within 15 minutes my car was inspected! I asked if they saw any of the issues that my dealership had quoted me and they shook their head and said everything looked good. I enjoyed how honest and efficiently they did their work and they didn't make me feel unwelcomed or stupid for not knowing something about my car. I really trust the folks at Cherrydale Motors. I took my car in for squeaking breaks, and instead of telling me "get new brakes" they said "your breaks are totally safe, so if the noise doesn't bother you, there's nothing you need to do." These guys are even honest about how long it will take them to do the work. They'll say, we can't do it today, but we can do it tomorrow. That makes it much easier for me to plan. I've been to other places in the area that have quoted different prices for the same work to me, and a male friend. However, as a single female, I never feel like I'm being taken advantage of at Cherrydale Motors. I'm glad I found this shop. read more

Okay apparently this place is liked by the locals? Well maybe so, but I feel like they take that trust and exploit it to the unsuspecting new customers in town. I went in for simple state inspection/emission test and the would not pass the inspection and said they have to change out the windshield wipers, which worked perfectly fine. On top of that, they charged me more $70 for just changing out a couple of windshield wipers. Yeah I know you're saying, I could've just changed them myself and come back but I was in a hurry and didn't want to come back to these people. Maybe they're really nice to the people they know and buddy buddy with but if you're new in town and go there thinking "oh they seem to have pretty good reviews", you might be disappointed. Topline points: -Cherrydale eventually exploits your trust, so you are discouraged from asking questions about cost breakdowns. -Once you do start asking, Cherrydale employees become discourteous and annoyed. The shop makes its money by charging heavily on parts but making it seem like they're doing you a favor by charging low on labor. Nothing wrong with the business model, but the attitude (and pricing) didn't fly with me. I'd gone to Cherrydale before for minor repairs, but had a brake issue that needed fixing. When they had a look at the issue, they told me it would cost upwards of $1000 on my decade-old Corolla--a bit of an eye-opener that at least called for a look at the details--as any informed consumer ought to do! So I asked for a detailed quote, which they resisted--and finally relented in sending me the email. They then sent me a "quote," which didn't break down the costs at all--except for the $50 oil change which they'd already done, and not the $900 major repair, or the other proposed $400 in repairs. So I called them back to ask about the breakdown. The supervisor, Tom, got his hackles up immediately: "Well, we haven't done the work yet that's why we didn't break it down, but we did for the oil change." Could you give me the breakdown all the same, which he read off, instead of sending me in print form. I wrote it down while he spoke, and it revealed a pretty reasonable labor cost--300 dollars--but higher costs on parts. This is a savvy tactic: Customers may be inclined to haggle over labor costs, but not the parts which they'd assume the repair shop distributes for a nominal up-charge. But Cherrydale's upcharge is hardly nominal. Note the difference between Autozone and Cherrydale. Cherrydale Autozone BrakePad $ 179.90 $ 37.49 Rotor $ 139.90 $ 89.90 Caliper $ 219.90 $ 125.98 Hose $ 119.90 $ 64.98 Total. $ 659.60 $ 318.35 You can find those parts in for my particular Corolla from other reputable parts stores, and you'll still see these costs are well over the cost on the most premium varieties--not to mention the middle-tier option. What was worse about this was the supervisor's attitude on the phone as I was asking questions: Surely every customer has cost on their mind, and it must be tedious to go over the details of every repair, but this is specifically why I'd been recommended Cherrydale, because they'll do the work. So when I asked why the parts cost so much, I was surprised that Tom replied "I don't know how else I can explain it to you." When I said, "Look, I wanted the quote broken down on parts and labor, but I'm not sure why you didn't provide it with the emailed estimate," Tom dismissively said, "Well, this is the first time you and I are talking." "Can I bring in parts that you can use?" "No, we don't use customer provided parts." It'd be one thing if this were just about quality control--a person showing up with the wrong part, a used part, a part with a questionable chain of custody would be a liability for the business, not to mention the car--but it's clear this is about where they make their money. They don't offer different options, just the most expensive option for everything. If you're looking for an honest auto-repair shop that doesn't upcharge to keep the lights on but works transparently with customers, Cherrydale isn't the place. And if you believe it is, start asking for price quotes from them, with parts and labor broken down, and see how they react. They don't want happy customers. They want ignorant customers. Update: I went to several other shops. All of whom quickly provided a cost breakdown with no fuss, and were willing to do the work using parts I provided for a third of the cost. Called yesterday to ask for earliest and latest state inspection times for today. Showed up today and was told the inspection guy took off the whole week. When I said it was unfortunate since I called yesterday and confirmed they were doing inspections, I didn't get an "I'm sorry" or any other reasonable customer service type response. Instead as I'm out the door walking away, the young dude I was speaking to made snarky comments about how they don't know when someone will call out sick... how about the fact they took the whole week off like you mentioned before? I've known Billy and Wade, the owners for almost 25 years! They were employees of the old CRAVEN Goodyear shop at Lee and Geo. Mason...when it got purchased by Mr. Tire the guys bought the defunct Cherrydale Motors which had been closed for years. It was a match made in heaven! I call them the DREAM TEAM as they always come through for my partner and me, with a Jeep that was a money pit but the Team always fixed what was wrong at reasonable and honorable prices and outcomes! Easiest. Inspection. Ever. I got to Cherrydale about 9 am on a Saturday morning. The parking lot was jammed full with customers but I finally waited around a little and got a spot. I walked in to give them my keys and they told me it would be 7 cars before me and they'd be 20-25 minutes apiece. I walked to Dunkin donuts up the street with a book and waited there for about a hour and a half. I got a call that the inspection was over about 45 minutes earlier than I expected and I walked back. I found these guys on Yelp. I took in my 2003 Audi A4 for fairly serious steering/suspension and engine repairs. The storefront is not much to look at, but don't let that chase you away. They took me in right away, kept me updated on the work they were doing, gave me options at every turn, and completed the complicated work quickly. I am totally satisfied with the repairs. My car runs the best it's run since I've owned it. The staff is not overly, bubbly friendly, but they are polite, and professional, and that's all you should need. The costs were FAIR. Not a bargain, not a ripoff. Pretty much exactly what other shops were charging for the same repairs, perhaps slightly less. Competitive. They also gave me a 50% discount on a necessary repair they forgot to mention immediately. Tl;dr: They charge about the same as everywhere else, but they do it RIGHT, and do a great job with their repairs. An honest, skilled shop. This is a good place to have your car worked on. The mechanics are competent and straight forward with their work and what you need. I did not feel like I was being given any baloney about unnecessary work and the prices were fair for the area. They are very busy, so it's probably best to contact them ahead of time and schedule something. I live walking distance, so I didn't mind dropping my car off, walking home and just taking the bus to work in the meanwhile. I took off one star just because there are a couple of young guys behind the counter that are still not mature enough to know how to talk to adult customers. read more

Reliable and efficient, two things that are not typically synonymous with an auto mechanic shop. I'll echo all of the positive comments on here and just say that finding a good mechanic is one of those things that is a must have, and though it sounds simple, can be almost impossible. I went in for a relatively easy fix, my car was pulling to the right. After explaining my problem, the mechanic was able to determine the issue and explained all of my options. Most of all, I really appreciated the fact that at no point did I feel like I was being upsold on something else. Had I gone to elsewhere, I'm sure that miraculously, something totally unrelated would've warranted repairs! On a side note, my gf noticed a bunch of girls waiting for service on their vehicles. She found it comforting to know that this wasn't one of those sleazy places where a single girl would feel uncomfortable being by herself, as has happened at other establishments. Extremely disappointed. I nearly got a ticket this morning for my expired inspection sticker so I decided to pop by on my way home to check out the wait and get it taken care of immediately. I've been coming to Cherrydale Motors for almost 5 years to get my car's safety and emissions tested. I came in thinking I only needed the annual test done since I've only had the car I brought in since last January. After Larry completed my safety test he asked if I needed my emissions tested. I told him no I don't think I needed it done, but could it be looked up in their system or something since if I did have it tested I only would have brought it to Cherrydale Motors. Larry goes in the back to look and comes back saying he can't find my plates or VIN in the system at all. I became frantic thinking had I not had it for the last year? Thank god I didn't get pulled over. My car was already in the service area so I also didn't think I could go check my glove box. So I gave him the go ahead to do it because I didn't want to risk getting a fine for it. While waiting in the lobby I googled Virginia emissions look up, found the states site, entered my VIN and sure enough it was on the website completed Jan 10 2019 by Hector at a Cherrydale Motors. The inspection report doesn't specifically show an expiration and when I showed Larry he only then tells me his system only goes back a year so because it was done Jan 10 it wouldn't have shown up in his system and he doesn't use the website I did to look it up. Why didn't he tell me that from the start or that I could look it up on my own. To top it all off when removing the old sticker he ripped the tint that was on my windshield off and shrugged saying it's illegal anyway. (My mom had the very light tint installed as added protection from the sun due to how easily she burns since she's already has/had skin cancer.) Larry did it all with a smile and small chat as I waited to be rung up though if that counts for something. Normally I like to support local businesses, but I don't think I will be returning to Cherrydale Motors in the future. If they are going to rip me off/not be helpful for something as simple as Virginia State tests, I can't even imagine how much I'd be ripped off on repairs or maintenance services. read more

When I needed to get my new vehicle inspected it dawned on me that i have lived here for 5 years, never had a car and knew no auto shop, so what did i do, checked yelp. This place was great, I called asked if they did inspections, they said yes, I asked if there was a wait, they said no. i drove the mile to get there and within 6 minutes, my car was inspected and they even put my plates on for me. Even though all I had was an inspection, these guys were polite and got me in right away. I didn't have to wait at all, they let me run across the street and get a haircut while they were at it. Came back and it was done. 1 minute before, I had just tried the Shell next door - 20 feet away - and was informed to park in a line and wait for an inspection. Basically they were asking me to get in a line and wait on a hot day with the car idling for probably 30 minutes or more. Didn't even offer to let me park it. Of these two, next door to each other, obviously I will be choosing the business that has better customer service - Cherrydale - in the future. read more

I was told to bring in my car in the AM and when I arranged everything and arrive I come to find they are fully booked. I don't understand why they do not make appointments for inspections. You can sometimes find a cheaper price around the local area but when you want a good group of guys to fix your car and fix it right this is the place to go. I work on my car a lot and some things I can't do because I dont have the tools or the time. Their labor chargers are decent and they are honest. It is one of the only places that I have found that have a emissions inspection system that works with my Volvo, not sure why but the other Exxon and Shell stations failed me every time. I get my car's tires installed here and I am stopping by to get my wife's tires installed tomorrow. $80 for all for mounted and balanced? Great deal!
