Good ice cream but they don't have soft serve. I was disappointed. The choices are limited, but what they have is great.

Frappe is ice cream and milk.... Not just milk which is what we got. For the prices they should be more generous with what they serve.

I give it four stars because of what it is. It's a farmstand that makes amazing homemade ice cream…read morein traditional as well as creative flavors. Their workers are friendly summer employees mostly from local high schools. The prices are great and if you go there looking for anything with ice cream you're going to leave satisfied. If this was a restaurant and I wanted no seating and air-conditioning and wait staff, we wouldn't even be talking about two stars. But for ice cream you're gonna love it.

On my way back from MA, I decided to check out the Dr. Davis Ice Cream stand in Brookline, NH,…read morewhich is located just north of the MA border, across the parking lot from Caryn's Country Convenience store (Sunoco). The other Dr. Davis Ice Cream stand is located in Pepperell, MA. This seasonal ice cream stand offers around 28 flavors of homemade hard ice cream (they have more flavors which rotate seasonally), soft serve (choc, vanilla, twist), hot dogs, chips, and can soda. The ice cream is offered in cones, cups, waffle cones, sundaes, brownie sundaes, banana splits, frappes, floats, flurrys, and DOC'S SPECIAL! Custom ice cream cakes and hand packed ice cream pints & quarts are also offered. The 28 hard ice cream flavors offered here on my visit (August 2011) included vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, coffeee, black raspberry, chocolate chip, fresh peach, pistachio, frozen pudding, peppermint stick, Oreo, butter pecan, coffee Oreo, maple walnut, orange pineapple, rum raisin, raspberry creme, buttercrunch, bubble gum, chocolate chip cookie dough, French vanilla, French vanilla chip, orange sherbert, mocha chip, butterscothm moose trax, cake batter, & double chocolate Swiss chip. The prices tend to be on the higher side for what you get. In 2011, the standard cone/cup ice cream prices (not including the 9 percent NH tax) for (soft serve/homemade hard ice cream): Small ($2.95/$3.25), Medium ($3.95 hard only), Large ($3.50/$4.95). A regular frappe is $5.25, a small sundae is $5.10, and a small banana split is $5.90. Each extra topping is 65 cents. I got the Doc's Special ($6.00 with tax) which was 2 scoops of ice cream (I got rum raisin), banana slices, hot fudge, strawberries, and marshmallow sauce (or whipped cream) & cherrry, all served in a paper cup with a long spoon sticking out. This special ice cream treat tasted pretty good, though the size of this treat was not huge for the price. The rum raisin ice cream consistency was just right, cold & creamy with raisins and not too milky. The various toppings (little of each) in the treat went along pretty well with the ice cream. I also had a whole banana in my lunch box, which I added to this treat. Overall, a good cold refreshing treat which I finished in about 5 minutes. There also also a couple picnic tables along the fence next to the stand. My biggest wish is that the menu changed up a bit more. Every time I go, it feels very similar, and I often find myself struggling to find something that truly stands out or excites me. The food is good, just not particularly memorable. That said, the service is consistently good and it's still a nice place to meet up or go for a casual night out. I'd love to see some fresher or more creative menu rotations in the future because the setting definitely deserves it.

And if it has premium beef and isn't yet another smashburger (I like them, but enough already), best scenario yet. Forge & Vine Cheeseburger: The burger here was fantastic. Most importantly, the beef brought flavor-- very enjoyable. Crusting was solid, though there could have been a bit more-- and perhaps a bit more seasoning. But no issues with the flavor, and the interior was a perfect medium rare with juices aplenty. The challah-like bun-- with appropriate size, volume, and density-- also brought some flavor: a pleasant slight sweetness. Cheese got the right melt, tomatoes were very fresh, and the other ingredients all worked in harmony. Tallow Fries: Included with the cheeseburger, these had both crispness and give, with a moist, fatty lubricant to aid the texture and flavor. Salting was on point. And plenty of them. All this for $24 might seem steep, but in today's economy, where it'll run you nearly $20 for a burger and fries at Five Guys, I'm all for paying a few extra bucks for the extra quality. And the space itself is pretty impressive too, from the high ceilings to the wood to the open kitchen to the view of farmland out back. Service was good too: efficient and friendly. Planning to return to try other items and post another review.

We had a phenomenal night of drinks, food, and legendary musicians at The Bull Run, Shirley, MA…read more(Apr 2026)! Their huge 275-seat event space was packed at tables for 4 to 8, for the two 1-hour sets of Live Dead & Brothers Band, an Allman Brothers - Grateful Dead group of legacy musicians from those bands and families!!! An authentic rockin' performance! They opened hot, with Feelin' Alright and Truckin', and ended hot with Midnight Rider, Ramblin' Man, and Jessica, with around 14 more between. The acoustics were excellent at our table, and we also took up our share of the crowded dance area :-) Their tour continues at least through Dec 2026. Our tickets were about $50 each. Service was fast and friendly, and they let us pull up one more chair for our group of nine. You can get crafted beers and cocktails. We settled in with ice cold regional beers, which honestly are just as distinctive as fancy craft beers. We got some food to share off their "concert menu", too. An entrée-size dish of rich creamy homemade Mac & Cheese, made with tasty aged Grafton Cheddar, soft slightly-al-dente curly Cavatappi pasta tubes, not-overcooked green beans, as i recall, crisply crusted with lightly-maple breadcrumbs. Very flavorful and satisfying. A sweet fresh bright Autumn Salad of greens, pecans, and bright beets, in tart vinaigrette. And juicy "Bull Run Classic" burgers with crisp lettuce, tasty firm tomato, mildly-sharp red onion, and, for one of them, an add-on of rich cheddar, all on a cloud-like brioche bun. They do ask for $20 per person food/beverage minimum for all shows, essentially an entree or a couple beverages each. That's about what we had planned to order anyway :-) This place knocked us out with their dedication to farm-to-table ingredients, sourced from more than 25 regional farms named on the dinner menu. We've never seem such an extensive list of the actual sources. Very cool! The Bull Run has been a tavern since 1741, named after the Battle of Bull Run in 1861, (or in another version, named for a brawl in the tavern at the same time :-), and has been run by the Guercios extended-family since 1946. It was a stop on the stagecoach route and a gathering place for the Revolutionary war. We loved the original wood, structure, and décor. The fireplaces were lovely. It's a huge venue. Bull Run has live music every week, and they're open Wed-Sun, but watch their schedule because dates vary, sometimes one day that week, sometimes all four! This show was in their 275-seat room. There's at least one larger room for around 400. Theres a little parking along Rt 2A, and much more out back across the covered bridge. Dont be put off by the rustic exterior. We loved this legendary performance at a legendary restaurant!
