A couple weeks back, I decided to finally check this place out, despite constantly driving by it countless times. I've often wondered what the ice cream tasted like, how it compared to the likes of places like Moo's or Friendly's, and if it was worth the short trip from my house. Turns out, at least two of those things are true. It's definitely worth the trip AND it's better than Friendly's (then again, what isn't at this point?). But it ain't as good as Moo's, I'm sorry. Lemme explain.. As per my modus operandi, I purchased only the peanut butteriest of ice creams. Except this time, I decided to customize it with my toppings of choice: peanut butter sauce, Reese's pieces, and chocolate sauce all drenched atop of vanilla ice cream. Now, I wanna take a pause-ex for a sec to highlight why this was necessary. Seems like when it comes to actual ice cream flavors, they don't have a peanut butter flavored ice cream the way Moo's does. I mean, if you're making homemade ice cream, it seems to me you should be able to create literally ANY flavor you want. Hayward's seems to go the more traditional route. See, they're similar to Friendly's. Only difference is Hayward's doesn't taste like store bought ice cream. It's actually better than that. But having such mid flavors practically requires you add toppings. On a higher note, I appreciate that they have a dedicated, easily accessible parking lot, unlike SOME locations (looking at you, Moo's in Derry). Additionally, Hayward's has one edge above Moo's and that's....online pre-order. This alone would cause me to become a repeat customer, if only for the sheer convenience and close proximity to my humble abode. One caveat of note though: their pickup window is on the left-hand side of the parlor stand where you park. First time coming here, I had no real way of knowing this. Final verdict: the ice cream itself is fine. Ordering and parking couldn't be easier. But I'd mainly only come here if I didn't feel froggy enough to drive further out for some next level ice cream like Moo's. Hayward's in Nashua is worth 4 cups of vanilla ice cream covered in peanut butter and chocolate sauce with Reese's pieces on top out of 5. read more

Came for the ice cream. It's good, not great. The real draw is easy parking and a lot of nice areas to sit and eat, or let kids play. That said, I found it pricey and just ok. 2 scoop dish $6.50 - texture was marshmallow-y, a bit spongy but very creamy. The flavor was espresso but I wouldn't even have detected coffee. Summer staple homemade ice cream place on Daniel Webster! They always have some crowd even on weekday. Their menu is extensive and also has sundaes and food as well. I can't even finish one scoop of ice cream - it's huge. Their ice cream flavors are good but some are overpowering. I like to try different flavors every time I visit them. I like Haywards but this location managed to mess up my very simple vanilla order the three times I've been there. I always got the Quart and ask for simple Vanilla and I tell them not French vanilla. And every time I go home and open it, it's French Vanilla. If you're not a fan of French vanilla like me check it in front of them because they will screw it up. Not going to this location again, ridiculous!! read more

We came from Montreal, Canada for a simple getaway and this was on our list of must tries! I love ice cream and usually always get the soft serve variety but when I saw the menu options, I knew I had to check this place out. There's something for everyone, the nice girls working there let us sample anything we wanted and we settled on 4 big scoops of different ice creams - this was served to us in a big container that looked larget than your standard ice cream pint! Amazing flavors, unique combinations that I've never seen back home and quite affordable suprisingly, for the quantity we got. I loved the the ice cream felt somewhat "soft" and not hard, the toppings and ingredients are true to their names. Would definitely recommend if you love ice cream and want to try some special flavors, this is so fun!! My husband and I were staying the night in Nashua (anniversary trip through New England) and decided to drop by here for homemade ice cream. Upon arrival, we were quite surprised at how busy this place was. Though we had a few people in front of us, the staff provided quick and efficient service. Haywards Ice Cream is a premium ice cream establishment with locations in Southern New Hampshire. I went recently with my girlfriend's family. The staff was helpful, but that did not make up for the quality of the ice cream, nor the price. My ice cream was ok, a solid B. My girlfriend ended up getting mocha, which tasted overwhelmingly of chocolate. The staff graciously replaced it with black raspberry ice cream, which has always been my girlfriend's favorite. The black raspberry was the worst non-freezer burned black raspberry I have tasted. The ice cream had a weird, almost gummy-syrupy texture, and "too much flavor". I would compare it to was eating something between a red fruit gel candy and McDonalds soft serve ice cream. It was inedible. Her son's girlfriend refused to eat it, too. I hope they do something to improve quality soon. Haywards used to be consistently better. However, I have lost patience. Next time I am looking for hard ice cream near Nashua, I want to try Countrybrook Farm in Hudson. I have not been there in years, but recall they were excellent. If I am looking for soft serve near Nashua, I am going to King Kone in Merrimack. read more

Awesome! Hayward's Ice Cream's got the best ice cream in town. With so many flavors to choose from it's easy to feel overwhelmed. I was pretty inundated with the vast amount of flavors but once I spotted cherry vanilla (my go-to) I had to go for it. Their scoops are so huge, it's hard to order more than one flavor during one visit because I struggle finishing just one standard sized scoop. I really like the texture of their homemade ice cream as it's very thick and dense. It's the perfect place for a day date especially during the summer months. read more

Since moving to milkshake land, Hayward's is on top of my list of places to revisit because their frappes are PERFECT. Remember kids, if it doesn't stay in the straw it's not a real frappe. Hayward's is tucked in between Main Street and DW Highway. It's not the cheapest ice cream but portions are fairly large. There are picnic tables but many eat in or around their cars. Parking can get as tightly packed as the lines at night. They tend to open more windows than people wait outside of, so look around a little and skip the wait. Hands down my favorite cream stand in southern NH! The MA winner is obviously Richardson's. read more

Wirecutter's review in the NY Times that sampled 16 nationally available vanilla ice creams chose Ben and Jerry Vanilla Bean number one followed by Van Leeuwen Vanilla Bean. Being an ice cream eating family, we had to do our own blind taste test between Wirecutter's one and two against Haywards Vanilla. To our surprise all four of our testers selected Haywards. Ice cream is great. Parking is adequate, and easy enough to get to. Problem is, the service is dog slow. Worse, 15 minutes before closing time they have someone stand in the parking lot and turn customers away, supposedly so they can close at exactly the announced time and not have to pay the help extra. I lost count at 20 carloads of customers turned away in the 15 minutes I stood in line to place my order the last time. Ignoring the cost of paying someone to stand there and turn away customers, they easily lost enough business to pay a closer or two an hour's wages. Even worse, I doubt I am the only one annoyed enough by this policy to write a bad review for them. Hayward's has other locations - I strongly advise that the one in Milford is MUCH better. At the very least, if you're going to use the Nashua location, subtract at least 15 minutes from their closing time. If you show up too close to the posted time, good odds you'll be turned away with nothing to show for the trip. read more

Okay so we go here a few times a year because we like the ice cream. However on our last visit we purchased a 1/2 gallon of oreo ice cream. At home we were eating it when my husband bit into a piece of plastic about the size of a dime. It is rusted on the underside of the piece. I called and asked to speak to a manager and let him know what happened. He just said "thank you for letting us know and have a good day". No concern at all. I have a 7 yr old, and the thought of giving my child a scoop of ice cream and them potentially swallowing a dime size piece of plastic is scary. The ice cream itself is 4/5 stars. The plastic in the ice cream is 1/5 stars. Their non caring attitude concerning the plastic is 1/5 stars. ETA: I included two photos of the piece of plastic that my husband bit into that was in the oreo ice cream. The underside looks to appear to have some metal as well. ETA2: after receiving an email from Chris I am happy with their response at this time. So I amended the star rating from 1 star to 4 stars. It is unacceptable that this happened but at this moment I feel they are doing a good job at addressing the situation, and the ice cream is good. read more

I got a kiddie this time, still HUGE!, with a scoop of salted caramel oreo and a scoop of Dutch Chocolate almond. Both flavors were delicious and while I liked the salted caramel better, I think 1 scoop is enough because it's so rich. My brother ordered the caramel tsunami and loved it. Hayward's gives you so much ice cream that I was able to save some for the next day, so make sure you don't eat too much beforehand if you plan to finish it all. Can't wait to come back for more!
