Chen's is a family run Asian restaurant which is tucked away on a side street of Cranberry. The pros: this is some of highest quality and best tasting Chinese food I have had. It rivals some of the most flashy, trendy, and expensive places in major cities. The spices are refined, tge chicken is all white meat, and the vegetables are fresh. Prices are extremely reasonable and portions are good size. Service is friendly and efficient. The cons: the decor is a bit outdated and if you don't like koi, go elsewhere. Overall a hidden gem. Visited House of Chen for lunch on July 15, 2022. The food was very good with a above average presentation. The hot n sour soup was overloaded with soy sauce. PRICE: The menu price stated $12.50 for the lunch Seafood special. The check was written as $14.25. Stated reason was inflation. A sign was posted as such. However, the staff didn't indicate the inflation price. Be sure you ask for the correct price so you are not surprised. read more

House of Chen is a very nice looking place to each. It has a lovely family atmosphere, and most friendly. The serving staff are very attentive. The food was nicely spiced. On the down side the pork and the beef were stringy and tough. I could not each 1/3 of my pork dish and had to "spit them out". This was the same as the Mongolian beef for my wife's dinner. It appeared that they were using the cheapest cuts of meat. The WonTon soup had very little flavor and appeared to be watered down far too much, and the stuffing the the wontons very bland. I really like the potential of this, and the family working together. This has potential, however, an investment in better meats is needed. I will come back to see if improvements can be made, as I hope it succeeds read more

American Chinese at its finest. Food is always very good. Favorite is the General Tso Shrimp. Lots of shrimp and broccoli in a great sauce. Usually order Chinese vegetables and black pepper pork for the family. Typically do takeout. The building is beautifully landscaped with a wonderful koi pond. Worth stopping there just to see the koi. Hot pots or sizzling platters are the way to go when dining in. Have tried most of them and all are fabulous. Owner is so nice. We are looking for a good chinese restaurant in Pittsburgh area and one of my chinese friend was recommended House of Chen. We weren`t scary to spend a bit time to drive in Cranberry Township and we were so pleased with our experience finally! The exterior of the restaurant is very charming. There is a cute small pond with live fish outside. You can sit on the bench, look at the fish and admire the sunset:) The interior is very cosy and spacious at the same time. We came over on weekday, so there were only a few visitors. We made an order and got our food extremely fast. Orange Chicken was so tasty and the portion was huge. The prices are very reasonable especially compare to chinese fine restaurants in Pittsburgh. I am very happy with House of Chen. Highly recommend. read more

Our normal place went out so we tried this on a whim. Just coming in, it's got a great atmosphere and the hostess was super friendly. I ate here today with 2 coworkers for lunch. We were originally undecided about where to go when one of my coworkers mentioned that she had eaten here recently that it was good. I can't say that I would have found it on my own as it is hard to see from the main road. It also does not look terribly impressive from the outside which is a shame because the inside is really nice. It has many different soothing colors on the walls, some big fish tanks on a wall, a nice waterfall outside and most importantly was super clean! For my entree I decided to go with the Beef with Garlic Sauce extra spicy and it came with a soup for which I chose the hot and sour soup. It was a little thicker than the hot and sour soup that I am used to but still tasted good with some pork and tofu with a little heat. My entree was fairly large for a lunch portion with a lot of beef, some vegetables and nice big side of fried rice. The sauce of the dish had a great garlic flavor and a decent spice level although I still would have liked it a bit spicier. In any case I proceeded to eat all of the meal and was very happy with my entree choice. The bottom line for me is that I would definitely head back here in the future. I loved the atmosphere of the place, especially the colors and what I imagine is outdoor seating in the summer, and the food was good too! read more

I was kind of floored by House of Chen. I haven't been here since I was a kid and to be honest, I did not have high expectations. My family (party of 6) decided to try out House of Chen on a Saturday night. We were seated immediately and our waiter was probably the best waiter I've ever had - attentive, could answer our questions, and super laidback. He even split up our meals in a way that pleased us all! I don't think he could have done any wrong. We split Crab Ragoon and Pan-Fried Dumplings for appetizers and we were all pleased. I had the Chicken Lo Mein and looovveeed it. There was so much food for the price! I also noticed that there were a lot of families there with their children but you couldn't hear them. Great food and GREAT staff! Our waiter was SO nice, so personable. He literally brought me EVERY type of sauce to sample prior to me ordering, and was so happy and upbeat. Hands down, the worst meal I've ever had. Crab Rangoon- fairly priced, average taste Seafood Soup- $9.00- was served in what looked to be an old metal dog food bowl. It was basically slimy salty water with a bag of vegetable medley thrown in (the kind you can find in any frozen food isle). It also had trace amounts of some type of imitation seafood strips. Shrimp with Lobster Sauce- 16.50- Now this was the real kicker. This incredible expensive meal was so absolutely revolting that I simply could not eat it. This dish was a bowl of at least hour old fried rice and a vomit inducing plate of the same exact snotty watery substance with around eight pieces of jumbo shrimp. Honestly someone having the audacity to serve something this poor is just purely disrespectful. I challenge anyone from anywhere to come to this joke of a restaurant, order the same thing, and try not to puke. read more

Terrile service and not celiac friendly. Ordered gluten free general tsos. Got home and the chicken was breaded. The receipt said gluten free. Called them and they said you have to order with out breading. I ordered gluten free and thus chicken with breading is NOT gluten free. Didn't make new chicken and didn't refund money. Chen's was a very pleasant surprise. The food was good. Nothing really "blew me away" except the chicken wings. Large, crispy, juicy. The rest of the food was solid. No complaints. The pleasant surprises were the family ambiance at the bar, casual and friendly wait staff interested in genuine conversation and beautiful fish ponds and gardens at the entry. With all of the family photos and letters from local charities and sports teams, I can tell the owner is proud of where they come from and proud of where they are.
