More like a 4.5 but my whole family enjoyed their experience here. Not a very conventional Japanese…read morerestaurant--what Japanese restaurant have you been to with a Lazy Susan in the middle of the table lol Similarly, you will find a combination of Chinese and Japanese dishes here. Where else other than a buffet can you order sashimi and mapo tofu at the same time? The main draw here is their daily specials and their combinations (not bentos, everything comes out separately). I enjoyed the fact they gave us unlimited salad in a salad bowl like Olive Garden and rice. The food came out pretty darn fast and our teapot was constantly refreshed. The food itself wasn't much to write home about. The Chinese food had better reception than the Japanese food we got. The salmon collar came in two pieces. The beef teriyaki was tender but kind of a lunch size portion. The salt and pepper shrimp had Thai basil so kinda tasted like popcorn chicken seasoning. The mapo tofu had a good mala flavor. Green beans had good wok hei. Wednesday is their busiest because of half-off lobster, so we ended up waiting about 40 min for a table of 7, and then it was sold out by the time we were sat around 8. So just a heads up to avoid Wednesdays if you don't care about half-off lobster. Plenty of parking in the plaza. A very unique experience indeed.

From the outside, the restaurant doesn't look like anything special, but once inside, this is a very roudy place. High ceilings with lots of marble makes this place very noisy and lively. Lots of big parties were already seated and drinking shots of alcohol. It seemed like many of the sushi chefs knew the tables as well since they were constantly being called over. This was a very fun environment but might not be suited for serious of intimate conversations since the place gets pretty loud. Despite how busy everyone was, we were still well taken care of by our server and enjoyed our meal. We ordered: Yellowtail sashimi - super fresh and sweet. Definitely have to get their sashimi Salmon skin handroll - really can't go wrong with this. It was perfect and delicious Bento box with maceral - the tempura was perfectly cooked and the fish was very fresh

Hands down, one of the best Tendon you can have in LA...and I don't usually look for Tendon!…read moreTempura is freshly deep fried and once it came to my tables everything was crispy and taste was phenomenal. Great customer service by the staff, caring, and fast service. Very cozy ambiance, they have both inside and outside seating. For a smaller restaurant like this, it has a good amount of table/seats. Not to mention that their sushi rolls were spot on as well. Would come back several times.

I was looking forward to trying this place out this past Saturday for Mother's Day, but…read moreunfortunately, the food and service disappointed me. I understand they are busy, but there is no reason to swing the door at my face when I simply asked where I can put my name down on the waiting list. No answer, just rolled eyes and door in face. We really should've left because from that moment, it definitely felt like it was a mission for the two servers to make it a miserable experience for my family. I later found a small post holding up a chromebook outside of the restaurant with a paper with very small print explaining waitlist rules. It would be a lot better if the restaurant made a larger print sign that just says, "Sign In Here," and then have your small print letter to the customers about the rules. We put our name down at 12:30pm, it gave an estimated seat time of ~1pm. But because of the terrible service and mismanagement of the waiting list, we didn't get seated until 1:30pm. They seated 4 parties of 2-3 before our party of 4 when the open tables were side by side. On top of that, after we got seated, they still gave water and took the other tables orders that were seated after us before they came to us. Food took another 20 minutes to come out. I asked for the bill three times, but it didn't come until the other tables that were seated after us left and it was just empty tables next to us. In terms of the food, it was fine and the tempura was cooked well but I do not need to eat their tempura to be treated this poorly.

EXCELLENT RAMEN WITH JAPANESE FLARE…read more I've visited more than a few Daikokuya locations, and I have to admit that this location is my favorite. The Ramen has never let me down. The service is great. The inside decor is reminiscent to what I have encountered when visiting Japan and is basically how many divey ramen restaurants in Japan look like. Moreover, they serve Orion beer here. Whenever I am in the area and am craving some ramen, this my go-to Daikokuya for ramen.

The noodles for me were just slightly too overcooked for my taste, but it wasn't a big deal. The tea egg was good with a just above jammy interior texture. The chashu was great though. It was very tender with no strange pork smell to it. It tasted fresh. I got the ramen with small rice bowl and salad combo. The rice bowl was alright as well. I got the pork cutlet and egg. I wanted the pork cutlet to be crispy, but the breading on the outside was soggy. The overall flavor was fine though. It had a braised, sweet soy sauce type of flavor to it. The salad was made of shredded cabbage and carrots with a creamy dressing on top that reminds me a lot of thousand island dressing. The slight bitterness from the raw cabbage paired well with the sweeter flavors of the dressing and the carrots. Service was okay.
