She does a spectacular job - not other nail salons that do a half decent job and your nails are chipping in 1 week. Della is the absolute best. My nails last for a solid 3 weeks. But like any of these services, you need to tip. Don't skimp on it. You get much better quality of manicure when you tip properly ie at LEAST 20%. read more

I had a couple of hours before needing to get to the airport for a flight, thought to try a different place in my neighborhood for a much-needed pedicure. I found Chelsea Nails to have decent reviews, a big salon and availability in the afternoon. I thought, "Why not?" Chelsea Nails is accessed via a fairly anonymous 23rd Street doorway where they don't hear you ring the first or second time. Once buzzed in, I climbed the narrow stairs to the second floor and was directed to a chair. I mentioned I would like a gel pedicure and was handed several cards worth of color possibilities. It wasn't completely clear what kind of product each card represented, but I was intrigued by a copper metallic nail color and asked for that. The technician told me it was a chrome technique, where you paint the nail black, then apply the metallic color on top. I nodded and off she went to do my feet. She went through the quick succession of nail filing, heel planing and soaking to prepare my feet. She was kind of rough doing the work, but I said nothing, thinking, "It's 4 p.m., perhaps she has more appointments about to arrive." I didn't watch her apply color like a hawk. I rarely feel I have to do that. I merely saw that she did a neat job. I paid $85 with a $15 tip and walked out. It took me getting into the sunlight and four blocks to my apartment to notice the toes on my right foot were significantly different/more darkly-based than the left foot. I made sure I looked at them outside and inside with a bright lamp and sure enough--they're a completely different shade. The pics I'm sharing don't capture that difference well, but others have looked closely at my feet and confirmed they look like they came from a different bottle or something. For $85 and a generous tip, I expect more. Many refer to this place as no-frills, and while that is clear from the decor and room arrangement, it's no excuse for a nearly $100 pedicure to look like two different colors. I will say that the ladies here are very very professional. I came in for gel x and had issues with 24 hours with the nails. I sent photos and called and scheduled a follow up. They took care of me and based on my short nails recommended another method. They didn't charge me for the fixes. And Christina is great, thorough and kind. The ladies who seem to run the place are kind too. They didn't charge me but I tipped again for the time of course. However, $30 charge to do gel on top of extensions when I brought my own nail polish was way too expensive to me. I guess that's the big difference in BK and Manhattan nails, but dang. Overall $100 + tip for extensions essentially on the first round with them. So price is why I docked a point. read more

My Technician (Jenny) was very professional and thorough throughout the process. She helped fix my fingernails that were splitting/peeling after I cleaned up a kitchen disaster and took lovely care of my toenails. Other patrons seemed very happy with their services, too. Always came to this place because it's right next to my apartment and they do a decent job with gel manicure. Nothing amazing (usually chips within a week) but decent and convenient so I keep coming back. This time I showed them a picture of a very basic nail design & asked if they could do it and they said yeah no problem looks super easy. The nail tech clearly didn't know what she was doing & had zero experience with designs. I didn't say anything to be polite and just said there for 1.5 hours while she struggled through it, whole time thinking I should have just done a plain gel color. Worst part is when I go to pay they want to charge me DOUBLE because of the design?!?! My total came out to almost $80 when I normally pay $37!!! For a basic nail design that they didn't even know how to to. I told the lady that is crazy & she should have told me it cost me DOUBLE up front when I asked about the design.... I wouldn't have done it! No menu prices listed or anything. Could have went to Glosslab where they actually specialize in designs if I wanted to pay that amount!!! Chelsea Nails is my go to nail salon and I've been coming here for years. They are on the pricey side however but they do a great job with pedicures and gel manicures. I would not suggest them for false nails/tips as they only have two people that know how to do them and they don't do them that well. I think this salons specialty is gel manicures. But none of that had anything to do with quality of the work. It was an absolutely excellent dip manicure. And I'm guessing that it is par for the course on pricing in Manhattan. I came in for a UV/hard gel fill (manicure) and the technician did a decent job. The reason I'm giving them three stars is there pricing structure is very deceiving. A UV gel fill is listed at $60 on their website. When I went to check out - they charged me $95. I asked why and they explained that they charge $35 for the gel color. I've been getting gel for years across the country and on both coasts and this is way overpriced for the quality/service they provide. I would say the ladies at this nail salon are all super friendly and do a great clean job. In one picture, I asked for something neutral because I didn't want the classic white tip French. We ended up doing a light lilac color with a white tip and I did get a bunch of compliments! The other picture is an orange #16 cat eye. I absolutely adore this. It's perfect for Halloween. I didn't think I was going to love them as much as I do. The work here is professional and the facility itself is super clean. They give you s complimentary back massage and then you can pay an extra for ten minutes. They also do nail extensions if your actual nail breaks which I did on both my thumbs. It looks so real!! The chairs have good back support because sometimes I get uncomfortable at other nail salons. The price is right for the area - right on 23rd & 6th. Clean spacious salon with nice staff. I'm a Brooklyn and flushing person who's used to $7 manicures and $16 pedicures, but I was in need of a last minute mani pedi before a trip. Manager yelled at me and aggressively grabbed my hand and pulled my hand to a client having a service done. My review was going to be a three star because the salon re did my gel manicure after it chipped within one day. I called the day after I left the salon. I wasn't able to come in until about 4 Days later because of schedule and time. I had the chrome gel ($55) and I felt that this was a lot for the manicure but based on location - I said why not treat myself. Gel is suppose to last 2 weeks - not chip in one day. They did the color on Friday over and had the polish labeled incorrectly so they added the incorrect color to my nails. They had so soak off he entire manicure (one hour). I went back to get the new color and it seems that he technicians add a lot of bubbles in the nails so I had to fix them again! The color was not the color I had last week. Chrome in the lighting has a different appearance. I went back in just to compare to the nail chart. The manager started yelling at me; aggressively grabbed my hand to show a client that was getting her manicure. The only place I didn't receive a mini back massage with gel. As I sit on a massage pedi chair getting my feet taken care of elsewhere I remind myself to update this review. Despite all of my complaints, Chelsea was a super convenient place for me. And some of the nail technicians are great. But my last experience left me determined not to go there again. I went for a pedicure with callus removal. The woman a) nicked my skin. Fine. It happens. But when she was removing callus she wasn't looking. Hello. You have a cheese grater up on my skin. Look what you're doing. She did an awful job. My manicure was fine. But when I got a chair massage the masseuse ruined it. They were willing to fix it but forgot about me. I was running out of time. The manager apologized but didn't hear when I said I'm out of time. I gotta go. And put wet polish on my nails again. Which ruined it completely bec I had to go. Anyway. It was not cheap. Not relaxing. And not satisfactory results. About a week ago I go a dip powder manicure- when she was doing my nails I thought it was a little odd that she didn't use a LED light to secure the gel but I didn't question her so she used a top coat and they air dried- when she was in the middle of fanning my nails she touched one of them and made a mark with her finger because they weren't dry! Then about a day later they started to crack and they have already had chips in them! I recommend spending $10 more and going somewhere else! read more

This place is close to my office and despite some negative reviews decided to check it out purely for convenience. I will not be back. They charge $2 for fast dry top coat which is ridiculous. They have a guy roaming the clients asking if they want a massage - it appears it's included with your mani but they don't tell you it's not so that's just manipulation. But the last straw is really that I got the mani late yesterday afternoon and am writing this the next morning and I'm already chipped (plus in the light of day can see the paint job is not great). When you first get your nails done they'll look great but the quality of them is awful. I got the color powder with tip extensions. Cost me $90 and 2 nails broke that same night. I came in the next day and they fixed them free of charge. Although, I asked them to dip 2 more coats and they wouldn't. Lily did an excellent job on my nails. I did the Mani+ Pedi for $35 + $1 extra for the fast drying coat. Overall, Lily was very efficient and it was a really relaxing experience. I would have liked a longer foot massage for $35...this one barely lasted 5 minutes...but my nails looks so great, I'm happy. They also give a quick shoulder massage at the drying station.
