It had been so long since I had a corndog at a fair, over a decade. COVID-19 was still around and things were starting to open up again to larger crowds and I saw the Chelan County Fair would be held in 2021 and was like, Oh yeah! I gotta go! So, I did. I woke up at 4:00 a.m. to get all packed for the day and over the mountain pass (I was coming from the northern suburbs of Seattle) well before the fair opened for the day on Saturday 11 September 2021. I visited some parks, the bakery, and the schools in Cashmere, getting some walking and morning grub in, before venturing over to the fair when it opened at 9:00 a.m. for the day.
The fair was pretty quiet when it first opened, the most lively gathering was a livestock auction, which I quite enjoyed watching. For one of the sessions, they started off with a moment of silence and the Pledge of Allegiance to recognize the day and its history. There was floor seating around the auction show-ring and bleachers. Animals that weren't being showed had stalls/pens that one could walk up to and interact with them at. The Geese were adorable and their honking could be heard all the way at the show-ring.
I spent most of my time with the critters and walking the fairgrounds, checking out the animals and the vendors that had set-up shop and were setting-up shop. I delayed as long as I could to getting a corndog, waiting until I saw one of the food vendors making the batter for the bread coating of the corndog fresh to decide where to get the corndog. I went with that vendor, ordering one jumbo corndog, batter hand-made, and corndog hand-dipped and cooked on-site. It was delicious!! Even if that was all I had done at the fair, it would have been worth the drive. Getting good food and to see a bunch of cute animals made it an experience to remember.
Fair workers were kind in their interactions. Parking was easily accessible and located right next to the entrance, which was very convenient, and was available at no extra charge. read more
