Atmosphere - Very casual and friendly. Had a guitarist playing music. He was good. Good amount of seating as well. Really cool joint. Service - I talked to the dude on the banner, he was super friendly. He wore a t-shirt and cargo shorts. Really chill dude. Food - Wraps were good, nothing extraordinary so don't come in expecting your mind to be blown. The best part is that you get to see the all the sandwiches and wraps in a window so there's no guessing as to whether or not it looks tasty. Didn't try any of the soups. Salad bar is intense. If I could own a little restaurant, this would be it! Very hip atmosphere and they feature new/local bands regularly. Walk in the door and you will see band posters and record cases decorating the walls, while a lava lamp lights your table. Don't get me wrong, this place is not just for the young crowd, because my parents love it to! They have the best organic salad bar with multiple prepared sides-like corn salad, pasta salad, and Asian sesame salad. They also have hearty soups that are served with a side of bread-perfect option to warm you up during the winter months! I think Chef's Table has avg to good food overall, but, after a while, their "famous soups" all start to taste the same, plus I have questions about how sanitary their self-service counter is. For really great, fresh, distinctive soups, go across the street to the Pantry. They might only have 1 or 2 soups but they are superlative. In fact, almost everything the Pantry does is superb. 3-stars for Chef's Table, but 5-stars (heck, 6 stars!) for the Pantry. read more

I was in here for lunch today a little before 1 and I had to come on here to say how impressed I was. It was jam packed for lunch. Live music, people everywhere. The lines were long, but moving quickly. The staff was friendly and patient--they rolled with the waves of people with a smile. I don't see what the latest reviewer saw because the lunch crew was great. The girls were sweet and the guys were very nice. They were packed for lunch while Freshi (which is a chain, did you know that?!) was almost empty. Just goes to show local is better. Oh, the bbq chicken wrap I got was cheesy, saucey and had lots of chicken. It was filling, but the staff and service stood out. Food, music and a great staff. Not sure what more you need. I generally have come here in the past, for just the soup. The sandwiches and stuff are not my thing but it's been reported that they were decent back in the day. Today I came here once again for the soup and honestly, I can never go back to this place. The soups have gone so far down hill that it doesn't even make sense. We got three different kinds of soups and also the paleo beef pumpkin chili. All of the soups were much too thin (read watery) for what one would consider traditional for such soups. The pea soup was so runny that you had to stir it up to find the greenness of the peas. That's just not pea soup. I do enjoy the live music they offer for entertainment but perhaps they should spend some money on a good housekeeper instead? This restaurant is sooooo dusty that you really just don't want to look at anything too closely. I was shocked when I noticed food splattered on the wall - that seemed to have been there a pretty long time. I guess owners/managers get complacent but this place is cutting all the wrong corners. Got lured here by a Facebook ad and I put it on my list of places to visit. Lately, I've been obsessed with soup, and upon seeing their many options, I had to go. I tried two different kinds of soup, a beer and cheddar, of which I couldn't have more than two spoonfuls. The taste was off, can't put my finger on it. The next soup was a creamy chicken orzo, which also was barely touched. There are tons of pre-made wraps to select from and the buffalo chicken one was pretty good. I wish it was freshly made rather than pre-made, but it was good just the same. I found the set up to be a bit odd and overall I found the food to be a little expensive. What really turned me off was the "forced tipping". I got my total and the next screen had options for 15, 20, etc. percent. I was a turned off by this especially since I was in the business and I always tip, even on take out. I just didn't find it necessary to present tipping in this way. read more

Amazing soups. Friendly service. The one thing that is consistently a problem is checking out. It is so unbelievably slow, whether I am the only person in line, or the 10th person. I have been a patron for years. I want you to do well in your new location, but I have turned around and left when it is too crowded, and it's always been because of the checkout being slow. The local chain's motto, "Fresh Food Fast" is totally appropriate. Chef's Table has a superior selection of ready-made sandwiches, soups, and juices, all made from real and tasty ingredients. The made-to-order burritos are delicious, and they don't charge extra for guacamole (the one problem being that like nearly every East Coast sandwich shop that tries to sell burritos, they cut them in the center... unless an actual Latino guy ends up making your burrito). The salad bar has an excellent selection of cold vegetables and rice or noodle salads, which make a great lunch on the go. Healthy packaged snacks and interesting energy drinks are also available. The large wooden tables and frequent live music (even in the middle of the afternoon) give it a funky coffeehouse atmosphere that doesn't seem contrived. Minus one star for too few vegan sandwiches, and the fact that they will only post music-related posters and fliers in their windows. read more

Our office gets take out here once in a while. They have a good selection of soups, salads and sandwiches. The food is very good. We place our order over the phone since it is generally a fairly big order and it is ready by the time we send someone to pick it up. The last few times they forgot someone's sandwich and did not provide utensils in our bag. We had several people order soup and we did not have any spoons! Both times we were charged for the missing sandwich/soup so we ended up having to send someone back for it. They were very apologetic and even threw in a couple of freebies. read more

This review comes from a Fairfield native.... Large variety in types of foods. I had a poor example of Mulligatawny soup, that was just warm, not hot. Cashier gave two people in front of us extra bread with their soup, and I had to ask for bread for mine. Staff seemed annoyed when we weren't ready to order yet. Layout in ordering area was disorganized - everyone seemed to be looming around the same place - it wasn't clear who was ordering, who had ordered, who had paid, etc. Unclear whether you have to hold a table ahead of time, or take your chances by the time you get through the lengthy & confusing ordering process. Parking situation is atrocious!! Very unsafe - if you choose their 7-space parking lot - you are forced to exit by backing out right onto a busy area of the Post Road (Rt 1)!!! To be honest, I see the atmosphere of this establishment as a pompous, arrogant, wannabe, yuppie- haven. Also overpriced: a small soup, turkey wrap and diet soda came to more than $13. My reason for going to the Chef;s Table is 3 fold.The coffee is excellent compared to many other coffee vendors in the sorrounding areas. When its brewed fresh it is very fullbodied and not watered down like so many other plaxces taste like. Their salad bar is a bit overpriced but the salads that are made to order by the friendly staff(Marlin, Wes, Jamie, Joe, to name just a few) offer different types of greens and many toppings to choose from, even fresh avocados for thise who like it. For a very fair price they give you 5 generous choicesfor toppings and will even mix the salad in a mixing bowl for you to make sure it is well coated.A few of the soups are also good although i find many to have the same taste as the bases are common to many. The bathroom is a work of artwork on the wall from many the rock artists from the 60's and 70's.Itseems that everytime I go in its spotless considering the number of customers that frequent the place They used to have many good bands there but have cut back on them unfortunately. They serve beer and wine delivered to you personally at your table. During the summer they have 1 or 2 tables outside on the sidewalk for your al fresco pleasure Its a nice place to go, grab a good cup of coffee, read a paper and just relax. Sadly, a place we used to love has lost its quality and value. We're a long time breakfast fan of Chefs Table; however, the past year things became progressively worse. There's no consistency in the food. Each week, you're presented with a different roll for your egg sandwich, usually stale. The eggs are never made the same twice. A frozen sausage patty is put in the panini press to heat. Upon arrival, the staff is usually unwelcoming, unlike in the past. We've had the breakfast sandwiches prepared by Rich, and they were amazing. Maybe, he should instruct his staff better. read more

After being a long time customer, it disappoints me to have to write this. The food has fallen to be far from good. What was once a great place to get fresh wraps and soups has become a place that serves food that is almost uneadable. Now run by children and way overpriced it is a place that I will no longer recommend to anyone. While it still has great local entertainment, the horrible quality of the food out weighs it. I would be shocked to see them in business in the next year read more
