Don't let the location fool you away from this Cafe. It's hidden within a discount bookstore located in the old Borders on the Post Road in Fairfield. Some might claim that it's about the same as the Seattle's Best Coffee that used to reside in the same exact spot. However, they include a lot more menu items, and not just your average cup of joe.
The Taj Cafe has espresso and coffee choices from the Lavazza line of products, as well as a menagerie of syrups and sauces that you can customize your latte or cappuccino with. They also include smoothies, milkshakes, and over 20 different types of loose-leaf teas from the Republic of Tea that the staff will happily put into your own tea bag for you. They also serve the usual line-up of bottled soda and other drinks.
As for the pastries served, the muffins and croissants taste like they're delivered fresh each morning, which, in fact, they are. Some of the cookies and cinnamon rolls are bakes right there behind the counter, and the line-up of cakes and pies are delicious, including a gluten-free variety of chocolate cake. Personally, the Oreo Cake is a favorite of mine. I mean to order different, but I'm always returning back to that one slice of cake because it's so good. The Taj also serve wraps that have a homemade taste to them. These wraps make a great lunch.
They have very competitive pricing, making the quality of the ingredients of a good value.
The staff is well-skilled in their crafts, which can sometimes be hard to come by these days in the world of fine espresso drinks (especially in Fairfield County). The service is always friendly and cheerful. Other then an occasional, over-caffinated nut job that wanders in with an impossible order, most of the customers are pretty cool.
