My son is currently taking a kids month long baking series and it's absolutely fantastic. He is a somewhat shy and not assertive but he loves learning to use tools correctly and gain knowledge on the science of baking. Recently took a Friday night group cooking class here and loved it. We made Fried Chicken and Waffles, something I've never tried or attempted cooking on my own, and it was delicious. Chef Teri is amazing - charismatic and insightful - and her staff was very nice and helpful, with different people assisting at each of the stations. My group was filled with first timers and regulars, no matter what level of cook, everyone seemed to get something from the class. Some even enjoyed a glass of wine while we worked/ate, adding to the homey vibe. What a nice way to start the weekend! read more

It's been 6 hours since my son's 16th birthday party and I am still full from the delicious 3 course meal that the teens prepared from scratch. Daughter had a week long cooking camp and she absolutely loved it! They discuss nutrition, food sourcing, cooking theory and techniques. Practice knife skills and she learned a ton this week. We do a lot of cooking in the home but this was amazing. Best camp of the summer! read more

Instead, we were given separate "jobs" so all I really learned was what my station was tasked to do. I suppose this is what most cooking classes do to save time. I highly recommend this cooking school! I recently took a workshop here hosted by the food blogging company, Small Chicks Big Eats. I had the best day! Everyone was so friendly, the class was hands-on and very informative. Everyone there seemed to be having the best time. I can't wait to sign up for more classes. We made a great meal. Everyone participated in brining and grilling a chicken breast. We made a mixed green salad with a great tasting vinaigrette. We even got to make an awesome dessert! A cobbler (from scratch) with strawberries and rhubarb. Topped of course with the best ever scratch made vanilla ice cream. The owners of Chef Tech are knowledgeable and patient. I had my five year old daughters birthday party here and it was AMAZING. I had a group of 14 kids the youngest was 3 1/2 and oldest was 10 and they all enjoyed it. It was very easy to book my party i spoke to Teri and Amy and they both were great to work with. They gave me a few different food options for my daughters party and we ended doing pizza and cupcakes. The kids enjoyed making the pizza, they rolled out the dough and even made there own sauce. The pizza tasted delicious all of us parents were taking bites of our kids pizzas. We had two chefs working with the kids as the parents stood back and watch their kids in action. They had a nice spread for us parents to munch on while the kids cooked. I first walked into chef tech on First Fridays and i thought it was so nice and inviting. Now that I've been in there i can't wait to go back. my kids enjoyed it so much I'm positive we will be back for cooking classes or holiday events they will do. read more

I was looking for a cooking school that allowed you to actually participate in the preparation, cooking, and eating of the meal (without the cleaning). My Dad found this place and saw the abundance of classes offered and knew I'd find something here. I signed up for the Friday night cooking classes, they each have a theme and the skills taught are different (some are related, like how to hold a knife or chop an onion correctly). I enjoyed all of the ones I took, from French food to Southern fried chicken and pho, they offer series or stand alone classes. Chef Teri and her husband Chef George (Jorge) are a lot of fun, she also has great helpers. The kitchen is large, clean, and very organized. Whether you want to learn how to cook a basic chicken or master the art of French cooking, this place is the best. read more

My daughter has always loved the kids cooking series class so we had her birthday party there. It's perfect for 12-16 children. You pick from a menu of kid-friendly meals and cupcakes ahead of time and in 2 hours the kids make their meal and enjoy it, leaving samples for us! Chef Terri is knowledgeable and she has a great sense of humor. It's also a nice social time to meet like minded people and chat about food and cooking. My experience though limited, was very poor. I was scheduled to attend a work event cooking class on what turned out to be a dangerously stormy work night. Every employee scheduled for class scrambled to make it to Long Beach despite the traffic and low visibility however I couldn't manage it. Since my boss had scheduled the class, I attempted to salvage the night by calling ahead to ask 1) if I could pay for my plate 2) could I purchase a complementary bottle of wine to be given as an apology for my absence. The woman who answered so so rude. She informed me that "they had already purchased the food so I'd have to take it up with my boss." Her tone was very unkind. perhaps she was concerned the whole class would cancel given the weather. She also informed me that wine could not be purchased - which is perfectly fine, however, her tone was pretty combative. This is obviously a customer service review as I can't speak for the class itself. I'd use caution if considering this establishment for any work related events. read more

I am a terrible cook, or at least I was until I took a series of four classes from Chef Tech. they taught me how to use knives, make sauces, make pizza and pasta from scratch as well as simple things like cooking a whole chicken, shrimp, lobster,and shucking oysters. I'm no longer afraid of my kitchen! Lovely people, great and efficient setup with well thought-out cooking stations in the school. Can't wait to take another series of classes and keep my kitchen intimidation at bay. Well worth the investment and loved "the feast" at the end of every class. read more

I really love this place! The staff is so kind and welcoming. My 6 year old daughter takes the kids series here. She has been taking classes for a year now. The staff is able to differentiate instruction based on a child's experience, developmental levels, and interests. They welcome students of all levels and make them feel successful. They prepare quality meals using quality ingredients (Trader Joes much of the time). Recipes are always emailed to parents after each class. My daughter has food allergies and the staff makes sure she is accommodated so she can fully participate and enjoy the food at the end of class. We took a 3-hour workshop on taco-making and had a great time. The class is very laid back, casual and intimate so you can ask all the questions you like. The more you ask, the more benefit you will receive as the chef is very knowledgable and happy to share her wisdom. It's a great way to spend an evening with friends or a date. We had our daughter's 7-year-old birthday at Chef Tech and it was a truly wonderful party! We loved how they had all of the kids busily prepping and cooking the whole time, peeling garlic cloves, grating parmesan cheese, making pasta from scratch, cracking eggs, mixing cupcake batter, etc. Every child got to try every task he or she wanted to and there was a coordinated rhythm in the kitchen the whole time. The kids had a blast and the instructors were patient, fun, and clear with instructions. After creating a delicious hand-made pasta dish and cupcakes, the kids gobbled all the food with gusto and were very proud of what they had made. Even the picky eaters enjoyed the yumminess! My granddaughter attended an Asian cooking class this summer. She loved it! She described the kitchen as "Top Chef," and loved the recipes. We've all been treated to some of the delicious dishes she prepared. I liked the high ratio of chefs-helpers to students and their kindness to all. I completed the Pro Chef series at Chef Tech, and I feel it really brought me several levels higher in my cooking skills, and confidence in my abilities. The series progresses over all the basic areas of cooking in 24 lessons. What really helped was the intense hands on experience in addition to the demonstrations on various techniques. I have attended other cooking schools for one day classes, and they are mostly watching the instructor with maybe a chance to chop an onion. Not Chef Tech. At this school, it is hands on experience which is the best way to learn in the long run. read more

Yesterday, I took my kids and two of their friends for a complimentary cooking class. I'm assuming it was for the kids to see how they like it and to entice them to want to take some future classes. I signed them up via email and the class started at 4:30. We walked through the door at 4:32. The cooking class was already underway as it was 2 minutes in. However, the chef did not greet us or introduce herself and instead said, "We start on time. Get an apron and a name tag." I thought it was a strange way to greet a prospective customer though I do acknowledge we were two minutes late. As I was walking out two more kids showed up. My daughter reported to me that the chef referred to "How hard this is going to be because people were late." The chef stated this more than once. I understand the importance of being on time and personally do not consider two minutes late. As a parent this infuriated me as I feel if a person has an issue with children being on time that person should take the issue up with the parent, not children who are 9 and 11 years old. The fact that they were 2 minutes "late" was out of their control and not their fault. Needless to say no one in our family will be attending Chef Tech for any type of classes. I gave this rating 1 star because the children liked the food though recipes were not offered. read more
