I was so excited to see this new jollof rice restaurant pop up within 25 mins of my house. I've been telling my friends in the area about it opening. 2 days ago, I decided to try it for myself. You can tell this was a newly opened restaurant. The inside was clean. But just had a empty feeling despite the tables and chairs to sit in. The counter did have like a buffet setup but nothing in it. I am assuming it was for future use. The lady who helped me was very nice. She showed me the menu and I ended up ordering the stewed beef with jollof rice and plantain fries Togo. I asked the lady if the beef was tender and she said yes. I ended up paying $23 for the meal give or take and added a $3 tip. Keep that total in mind. After waiting for about 20 mins, the lady came out with the food, tied the bag and sent me on the way. As I picked up the bag....I just thought it felt really light for the price I had just paid. I opened it in the car and busted out laughing and called my husband to tell him about the experience. When I got home...I was able to snap a picture. Now let's talk about the taste. The jollof rice was good. The plantain fries...we just plantain fries and not much to write home about. Now the beef....we got 2 pieces of tough and fatty meat. Half of it was inedible. I don't know what part of the cow it came from but my husband was chewing on a piece for 5 mins. Lol I really had high hopes for this place. But for the amount of food, and for the quality...I personally don't see it being worth it.

UberEats review…read more Service: given the distance of the restaurant, the order took a bit long but it was packaged well so nothing spilled and the food was still still fresh and warm. Dish: I ordered the spice wings with a side of jollof rice and spinach Efo-Riro. OMG! So let's start with the wings, the flavor on these wings were the right balance between rich spices and touch of sweetness. There was a hint of honey lingering on my tongue after it was greeted by a strong spicy flavor. Adding to this, the wings were fried to perfection with crispy skin resting on the top and smooth white meat down to the bone. AMAZING! The jollof rice was stellar! And while I do not know much about the perfect preparation for this dish to review if this is the best, I've had a few from various West African countries and can say that this one had that grainy texture with just the right spices mixed in. The spinach efo-riro was SO good. I honestly could have had a plate of this by itself and my taste buds would still be pleased. Overall, this place is very generous with their serving sizes. Well portioned, beautifully prepared, seasoned to perfection, and a sure trip down culture lane! I enjoyed it so much.

I ordered the jollof rice and oxtail -- both were cooked to absolute perfection. The flavors were bold, rich, and exactly what I was hoping for. P.S our waiter was awesome as well!

TERRIBLE SERVICE AND UNDER COOKED BLOODY CHICKEN - FOR THE PRICE!…read more I was excited about trying the cuisine, so I ordered online a few signature dishes. The cost was around 140 dollars for 4 dishes and some meat pies. The cost was not an issue until we opened the bags to partake in the food. The first thing we tried were the meat pies, that they seemed to just toss in a plastic bag (see photos attached). Terrible presentation, but the pies were tasty. The second dish we tried was the JERK CHICKEN - as soon as you cut into the meat - it squirted a mixture of blood and spices! (see photos attached). The third dish we tried was the (2) orders of OXTAILS - they were delicious, however for the price point to get 3 small pieces of oxtail was disappointing. Finally we tried the BANKU with Tilapia - very good, the fish was cooked thru and the spices and veggies were on point. The sides on all the dishes were nicely seasoned and delicious-plantains, coleslaw, rice and peas and joloff rice. The other blaring issue is customer service and decent communication. I ordered this meal thru the online tool, who notified me when to pickup the food - 3:09 pm was the time, I was there at 3:10 pm. I did not get my order until 3:45 pm! I watched as two customers who clearly ordered after me receive their orders. Of course I inquired when I entered the establishment and the owner assured me just a few minutes- they cook the fish to order. No problem, I want my food freshly prepared. So 30 minutes in I approach again, mind you I have not left the establishment, and was told they had burned the fish and needed to prepare it again. Why not communicate to your customers that there was a problem- instead of having me sit there not knowing what the heck is going on!?!? Now you must be asking yourself - after about an hour and a half from order to pickup- why was the JERK CHICKEN a bloody mess? Especially since you had more time to prepare everything!! TERRIBLE Service! Food under cooked and price points don't match food quantity or quality! (clearly, I am not the first customer with this issue). Please DO BETTER - it is nice to see after 15 years of residency in this area this genre of culture and cuisine, but the way you're going will cause you to be closed down.

Favorites were the rich, thickly textured, moderately spicy palm nut soup with goat and beef, the dark and flavorful waakye rice and bean dish, the chicken suya, and the jollof rice. All the sauces were delicious. The fried turkey tail dish was well-prepared, but not my favorite. Portions were generous and every dish offered great value. We'll definitely go back. Dining in was comfortable but utilitarian and no frills. The pace was un-rushed--perfect for a relaxed and enjoyable dinner, but it wouldn't be ideal if you were in a hurry. If you've never tried west African food, I highly recommend this restaurant.

The food is Ghanaian so you'll find a lot of west African staples here. I ordered their Suya rice with chicken and beef. My wife ordered the acheke with fried fish and ordered a plate of jollof to take home. The suya fried rice was my favorite dish. It's one of their own creations but it's a fried rice with suya spice in it. It's not as spicy as I personally like, but I'm a huge fan of spice so I imagine it's a good level for most people. The jollof was also pretty good. I'll say that the chicken and beef in both the jollof and suya fried rice were a little dry, but they had good flavor to them so it can be overlooked. The acheke was standard for what I expect from it. The fried fish could have used a little bit of seasoning but was fine to go with it. Food took about 20 mins to be cooked but I appreciate that it's done fresh. The service was great! Kevin was the one who took our order and helped us with any additional requests while we ate. Definitely love the soul he adds to the restaurant. The ambiance is pretty casual. The one thing to note is that the parking lot can be a bit small so parking may take more than one try if you have a bigger car.

Extremely disappointing experience at Jollof Etcetera…read more My coworkers and I visited today at 11:30a during our lunch break. Despite the restaurant advertising that it opens at 10a, the lone employee on duty appeared completely unprepared and disorganized. She could not clearly explain the menu or pricing, and it took an excessive amount of time just to place basic food and drink orders. The situation only got worse. Drinks were handed to us still in the can, and one contained a visible piece of hair. The same employee repeatedly touched her hair while handling food, which was unsettling enough. But, the final straw was when she delivered the pepper sauce and stuck her THUMB directly into it, then still charged us for that same sauce. As for the food: the jollof rice was undercooked, the beef was dry and overcooked, and overall the meal was not worth the nearly $30 per person we paid. When we asked for to-go boxes so we wouldn't completely waste our money, we were given absurdly tiny containers that couldn't even hold half the food. What should have been a 30-60 minute lunch break turned into a 2-hour ordeal. We work in the area and make a point to support local businesses, but this experience was unsanitary, inefficient, and frustrating from start to finish. We will absolutely not be returning, and cannot recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick, clean, or professionally run lunch spot.

The hostess stand looks different than the actual restaurant when you enter. It's not cohesive. Hostess stand looks rundown while the actual dining area is nice. Despite everything I listed above, the food here is not bad at all. Both locations offer taste into Nigerian cuisine that comes off as authentic but still palatable to the masses. I had the pounded yam and beef with ogbonna soup (my fav) and it didn't disappoint. I've been going to this restaurant for YEARS (Lanham) and each time I have enjoyed their food. Items I have had: okra soup, white rice and stew, Jollof rice, fish, moi-moi, puff puff...all the Nigerian popular dishes. Each one 100% SLAPS (very good). I simply deducted the rating because of decor, location (both) are in sketchy areas with interesting characters hanging outside.

Now, the grilled lamb wasn't as great, the lamb wasn't tender and there was no taste to it. Even though they claimed to have seasoned it, I couldn't taste any seasoning.
