Have been ordering here for the few years I have lived in the area. On most days the owners will greet you as if they've known you forever. I keep coming back because of the food and I recommend it to everyone. Steamed dumplings, crab ragoons, Mongolian beef, egg Foo young, general tso, honestly everything. I wanted a new Chinese restaurant before our movie and turned to Yelp, as usual! I loved the cozy ambiance upon entering, especially the beautiful fish tank of (mainly) Parrot fish. Our server was too cute and super gracious. The meals were fantastic - you could tell they were prepped "clean." Not fatty or overly salted, etc. Succulent and thick shrimp with lobster sauce - yay for no peas or carrots in it! NEXT TIME Im getting what the man had - Chicken Teriyaki. Mai fun was short on the protein and flavor. Chinese pizza was dense, about 3/8" thick, and chewy, not crispy. Special instructions were followed, so that's a plus, but not enough to make me come back as the food was not a good value for the price. read more

Frankly I was drawn to this place on review of yelp and I am disappointed. We tried a multitude of dishes including two soups including vegetable and miso which were generally flavorless and appeared to be in the same broth. Two veggie dishes were similarly overflowing with nicely cooked varied vegetables but paucity of wood. Sunrooms was evident t. The chicken and broccoli was featuring nice chicken sliced ina. Flavored brown sauce. The vegetable and chicke. Egg roll were overly fried excessively and dripping oil. Not pleasant. The major benefit was slightly favorable cold noodles and sesame which lacked sufficient sauce. The major disappointment was a general tsp sauce which gleefully featured more shrimp than I needed. The sauce was disappointing lacking the tangy component I adore from Hong Kong cuisine. My Grandmother Dottie has been patronizing this restaurant for years. I remember coming here as a kid with her and it was always such a treat. In my opinion the food I selected was not as great as I thought it would be given the reviews. I ordered their pork fried rice which wasn't bad but could do better flavor wise. Their pizza rolls were like any other roll is so no complaints there. I tried their Mongolian beef and was disappointed to see them drenched in this sauce, to me I don't like my food too saucey, and the flavor wasn't all there either. I also ordered their bbq spare ribs which were also mid... not a lot of meat on the bones. But my 4 year told said they were good. Overall I think a 4 is a fair rating from my experience. Originally I was going to rate it a 3 based off the food but the customer service from the beginning to end were nothing short of amazing, starting with the lady who took the order and the nice gentleman who delivered the food. I will have to try this place again to give other items a try and get my final thoughts in on this place. read more

I ordered the Tai Chi Chicken, the sauce was brown and not an ounce of sweetness. I didn't like it at all. Everyone else at my table had sweet n sour chicken and all liked it, including myself. I had a previous experience here. I asked for garlic sauce and they gave me brown sauce and dumped garlic on it. They told me it was the same thing, which it isn't. I only went because my parents wanted to go. I figured I would just go along with it. The service was great and the ambience, casual. The good reviews are shocking to me. Keep trying other Chinese restaurants that are closer to us. Although the other restaurants are okay, they do not compare to Chef Chan's Restaurant. The combo w the fried rice and soup is a good deal. The house special lo me in or fried rice is one of my more basic favorites. So many more great ingredients than the other restaurants. Went there during Christmas and the food was amazing - best mixed egg drop and wonton soup my wife and I ever had. The food was good and the portion sizes were nice. The reason why I'm only giving this place a one star is because I ordered a wonton soup and it was horrible! It was literally the worst wonton soup I've ever had. Their broth had no flavor(tasted like boiled water). The wonton "filling" had nothing in it. They're so stingy. A childhood favorite of mine. Whether it be a casual night out, birthday dinner, graduation dinner, or take out, Chef Chans never fails to disappoint. Whenever my family and I are sick, you bet we are picking up a large chicken corn soup. I'm 100% convinced there is a cure for everything in that soup. Chef Chan's is quite simply the best Chinese food to be had in Voorhees and for miles around. Their sushi is also one of the best, beating out even authentic Japanese-owned places in the area. The prices are very reasonable and cater to the local lunchtime crowd. The owner is very friendly and accommodating, and I was surprised they delivered to my house which is over 5 miles away (though that may be because they recognized me as a regular). 3.5 on food. 5 on service. So far, this is one of the best south jersey Cantonese style restaurants (but I can't comment on their dinner specials yet). It is more american chinese, but you can find some rare dishes like beef chow fun, walnut shrimp, etc. 1) Service really deserves 5+ stars. They prob. knew everyone by name and the servers were especially hospitable. 2) Food. I really dislike it when Chinese restaurants serve sushi so we opted for their lunch special (scallops with broccoli and beef chow fun to share). The scallops and broccoli was saucy and the scallops cooked just right, but the wonton soup is less than desirable. There is no filling (not like a real wonton with pork/shrimp) and I would just get a standard hot/sour soup next time. The beef chow fun was good, not amazing because I wanted the chow fun to be not as mushy/needed a higher wok heat- but if you are having a craving for chow fun this will do the trick. Because of the service, I would def. give this place another try (especially for dinner). read more

Perhaps it was a mistake to try Chef Chan's for the first time on Christmas Eve, or maybe it's part of a larger pattern that seems to be emerging the longer I look: the Chinese food around here is not that good. Firstly, disregarding the debatable quality, this place is extraordinarily expensive for a Chinese restaurant. If memory serves, the total for my take-out order came to about $68, for what I would normally have expected to be $50 worth of food. That wouldn't have been a huge deal, but there was nothing special about most of it, and the rest was awful. To give a quick example of what I mean by awful, I will use the quart of chicken fried rice as an example. It consisted of tiny bits of chicken, some onion, and about 15 sprouts. No egg, as depicted in some photos. No flavor, either; some of the grains of rice were still snow white. It was altogether like it hadn't so much been put in a wok, but briefly shown what one looks like. The pork loin mein had a funny aftertaste, but the primary one was celery. The noodles were slightly thicker than what I've come to expect, and over cooked, but again: no wok flavor. There was more of course, and as I said, some of it not terrible. But at the intersection of price and product on this occasion, there was a fatal accident, and a repeat customer was lost. read more

Have visited this place multiple times within the last year since moving to Voorhees and I am always disappointed in the food. Fried rice is always bland, chicken is always undercooked, and egg rolls are literally sitting in oil. Lo mein is relatively hard to get wrong...but they definitely dont have it right. I keep giving them another chance because they are so close to where I live and they have good reviews on yelp. Service is always fast and waiters are always nice. Chef Chan's Restaurant is by far the greatest Chinese food I have EVER had, I like to try a large variety of Chinese places, simply because there are tons within a few mile radius. I always find myself coming back here. Their wontons first of all, its actually white meat. I have never been to a Chinese restaurant where the wontons were anything but BROWN. Which kinda skeeves me out. They definitely are not the cheapest place, but honestly you get what you pay for. They also have this pink sauce, I have no idea what it's called but man is it delicious. i got the shrimp & broccoli. mistake. it could've been more shrimp i only got like 4 or 5 and the rest was a bunch of hard broccoli. there was little to no sauce when that's what makes the food taste good. the rice was harder than it should've been. there was an after taste after eating it. such a waste of money!!!!! only thing good about the place is the service. spend your money elsewhere! read more

I wanted to take my mother out to lunch because I'm visiting from out of town. I asked my mother what she had a taste for? She went on to tell me about a place she used to visit when she moved how the food reminded her of home and the owner was really nice. I smiled and off to lunch we went. When we arrived mom noticed they had done some remodeling and said something to the staff. Who in turn commented something smart under her breath. First strike!!! We went on reading the menu. I smiled at my mother because she looked pleased so I'm not worried. We talked about what we would order and waited on staff to take the order. I have a food allergy and explained to her that I couldn't have egg. She replied to me that I could not have fried rice because it has eggs. I asked why couldn't my rice be fried without egg my substitute was Brown rice. Strike Two!!! My food was brought out to me. On representation I didn't like it but nevermind I'll try it. UGH!!!!! IT WAS THE MOST BLAND ITEM in the world. I asked the waitress to take it, I wasn't pleased with the taste. The waitress proceeded to holler at me and ask me why. I didn't know I needed to explain how horrible the food was without your nasty attitude to go with it. Strike 3!!!!! I asked for the owner. Who in turn tried to make me pay for something I did not eat. She proceeded to tell me how long they had been in business. I told her the customer is always right. I took 1 bite and pushed it away. When I lived in Jersey, I'd come here when I had a craving for Chinese food. I don't think I've ever had a bad thing off their menu, either from take out or eat in service. Whenever I go, the restaurant is always busy, which to me is a sign of just how good their food is. I have to start a new paragraph to rave about their steamed chicken dumplings. They're my favorite in the whole wide world. Literally. Since moving into Philadelphia, I've tried steamed chicken dumplings from probably every single place and nothing compares. I have been known to take a trip to pick up several large orders of dumplings to then just drive back into the city. I wish more than anything they'd teach me how to make them. read more
