big beautiful fish tank ... the Parrot fish were posing for Yelp ;) (12/2/23)

I wanted a new Chinese restaurant before our movie and turned to Yelp, as usual! I loved the cozy ambiance upon entering, especially the beautiful fish tank of (mainly) Parrot fish. Our server was too cute and super gracious. The meals were fantastic - you could tell they were prepped "clean." Not fatty or overly salted, etc. Succulent and thick shrimp with lobster sauce - yay for no peas or carrots in it! NEXT TIME Im getting what the man had - Chicken Teriyaki. Only complaint - bland vegetables. Not my thing anyway.

My Grandmother Dottie has been patronizing this restaurant for years. I remember coming here as a kid with her and it was always such a treat. The service is very kind, the food is good, and clearly after coming back since my last time here 10 years ago, very consistent! The owners even still remembered my Grandmother after all these years. Worth a try for sure! :-)

The food is nasty, not cooked well and not fresh. It's totally tasteless. I'll not suggest this place to anyone.

According to my previous Yelp review, they were quick, the food was hot, and I especially enjoyed the Chicken Cashew. This time I ordered the Chicken Cashew again and decided to try the House Special Lo Mein (small), which included shrimp, chicken, and pork. The total came to $23 with tax. The woman at the counter said it would be ready in 5 to 10 minutes, and about six minutes later I was walking out the door with two bags of food. Five minutes later at my hotel, I opened the containers and found everything was still piping hot and quite tasty. The Chicken Cashew came in a relatively light sauce with diced zucchini and wasn't overly salty. The House Special Lo Mein was also very good and surprisingly generous for a small order. The meal included a small container of white rice and two fortune cookies. Kam Luang Chinese Kitchen has a few tables, but it's primarily a takeout restaurant. In fairness, the dining area looks a little tired and could use a facelift, but the food has been consistently good, the service is friendly and efficient, and the prices are reasonable. Overall, another solid experience. Four stars, and I'd happily return.

The sauce had just enough numbing warmth without overpowering the dish, and every bite was incredibly satisfying. Beyond the appetizer, the restaurant offered a warm atmosphere and attentive service that made the dining experience even better. When it comes to food, I never judge a burger by its bun, so thanks to Yelp for helping me find it. The sign in the window says "Asian fusion" which usually sends me running as it's often a cop-out label for bad mixed-up Asian cooking, but this is authentic y'all, meaning true-to-tradition dishes with a sometimes more contemporary application of ingredients or flavors. The "fusion" part must come from the fact that they have a small Taiwanese section as well as the main Szechuan/Sichuan menu, alongside a few familiar Chinese-American favorites like sesame chicken or broccoli x protein, so you can get that here too. Everything we ordered was phenomenal! Great flavors, generous portions, cooked with confidence and finesse. Compliments to the kitchen - they really know what they're doing. Not a single dish was lacking. They even put out peanuts at the start and serve fresh orange slices at the end of the meal. Very old school. We loved it all: * Salt & white pepper crispy chicken ("Taiwanese specialty") - well-battered and flavored, and perfectly crispy * Taiwanese minced pork rice * Chicken red curry - fabulous, with fresh vegetables and just the right balance of spice * Golden dish (fish) - very special dish in a salted duck egg yolk batter * Beef chow fun * Marinated crispy duck Wish I lived closer, but will definitely come back when we are in the area. Best of the best - very highly recommended!

Service was brusque and certainly more efficient in Chinese; my English was basically slower by a factor of at least 3. And yes, they are spicy, so not a place I enjoyed so much but others in the group liked spicy so they were good. Large square hot pots split into two soups if you wanted with a single clear broth in the center circle in case you needed to cook something not as spicy. A few different broth choices; some at an extra cost (like the pickled mustard + intestine). Meats, seafood, some fried dishes, veggies and noodles all available. Sauces much more limited than what I'm used to elsewhere, and the soy sauce is just labeled as a "special sauce". Big tank of sesame oil, though, that seems to be used a lot by the folks who frequent this particular style of hotpot, so it makes sense. Special dishes like the green pepper-covered beef are great for those who like spice. Meatballs and house made shrimp balls were ok. The noodle I asked how long it'd take to cook, and they basically told me to test like I would with spaghetti- take a piece, break it open and see if it's fully cooked. No sense of time or anything extra in the way of service. Overall too spicy and oily for me, but the lamb was good quality and the ice jelly dessert was an interesting mix of clear jelly, sour plum-like juice and some dessert haw flakes and spices. Not very sweet. Water pitcher and other service items (napkins, chopsticks) were provided initially but for any refills or additional plates, chopsticks, etc. you had to call waitstaff over. Didn't change plates or anything for us. They do take credit cards. Clean and large space, while I'd expected more ventilation, didn't walk out feeling overwhelmed with aromas so something was going for it. Seats were comfortable and they didn't rush us out.

China Moon has always been a very good go-to option for good takeout. It's small/medium in size. There used to be a couple tables for dine-in but I don't see them anymore. Food is also prepared pretty quickly which makes it a good option if you decide to walk in and order as opposed to call in advance then picking it up. I personally wouldn't consider it traditional in flavor. There are traditional Chinese options but like most neighborhood Chinese takeout, the food has taken on an American flare. That doesn't mean it's bad. I've been to traditional Chinese places and the same dishes taste decidedly different. China Moon offers very good neighborhood takeout.
