I only went to Cheesecakes by Alex because it was the meeting place selected by someone I was meeting with. I thought I would grab a tea, have the meeting, and then leave. However, nothing went as planned. Lol First, I am a "sucker" for eclectic vibes, which is the ambiance that the Elm St. location gives. The inside has a large mural on the wall, it has rustic flooring and furniture, and it is nothing like what I had pictured. I thought I would encounter a more "refined" place where everyone had their pinky in the air because of how everyone raved about Alex and his freaking cheesecake. Gracious! I completely understand now. I mean, I get it. Lol So after the meeting, this roughly drawn menu reeled me in because it had CHAI TEA. That's my jam. Once I had a sip of my delicious hot Chai tea with almond milk, I KNEW everything else was probably tasty, so I (in a reserved way) ordered an apple muffin. The muffin smelled divine, so I inquired (because I HAD to lol) about the best-selling cheesecakes. The cashier smiled at me and directed me to the Bourbon Pecan and the White Chocolate Raspberry flavored cheesecakes. They were $6 per slice, and I couldn't decide, so I had her pack both. I had a long day planned, so I had to take the slices home and refrigerate them. I almost forgot about them until around 10:30 when I had a sweet craving, and...have mercy! BOTH cheesecakes were velvety smooth, flavorful, and decadent. The Bourbon Pecan was heavenly. I could definitely taste its unique flavor pairings, and it had enough pecans. I also loved the buttery crust. The White Chocolate Raspberry was rich and creamy, with the tang of the raspberry exactly where and when you need it in every bite. I had to take bites out of each, you know, to treat them fairly. Lol Although I paid dearly for eating too much dairy, it was worth the experience. Sometimes, you just have to eat the lactose pill and jump in! I'm so glad I did. Now you know that Cheesecakes by Alex is Kiesha Speech approved. Hands down, they are bringing more than flavor. Cheesecakes by Alex is bringing the "flava!" I hear there are several locations in NC. I hope you can try one near you.

I don't want to sound like a sourpuss here, among all the glowing reviews, especially for a shop…read morethat is clearly independently and lovingly run. But, I do need to advise anyone who is unwaveringly accustomed to the Italian and Portuguese bakeries of New England (at least in the 1980s), and similar places, the pastries here aren't quite at that level. The pastries I tried were a little dense and shriveled, with a slight sour taste (which could've also been due to some uneven baking, erring on the overbaked side). In an apple filled item, the small amount of apples weren't quite soft and sweet enough, as well. Overall, the pastries were nearer to those of a very talented home baker than the polished work of a traditional professional pastry shop. Of course, for this specific region, this will be an enjoyable stop. With that in mind, I'm not surprised there are long lines; it must be very exciting to encounter a shop like this for the first time. There are very few other bakeries making pastries of this type, much less good ones. It's very, very hard to make excellent pastries. But, if you come from a land rich with bakeries, just set your expectations appropriately. Plus, there is the critical difference between New England and North Carolina bakeries: Would you rather have pastries that are sensational from sullen and unpredictably snappish people? ...or pastries that are decent and charming from laid-back and friendly people?

There was a lot of things that caught my eye but ultimately i decided to go with a tiramisu cup and another tiramisu baked good (reminded me of a cupcake but wasnt one). I will say the flavors were definitely there for both treats. The cup was delicious and was very rich I would definitely get it again. The baked good was personally not my favorite. It was a little too hard but the top was delicious. I would definitely go back in and try out some of their other treats that are not just tiramisu. I definitely encourage everyone to go check out this little spot if you're in the mood for a little treat.

It has a fun atmosphere, even though there isn't outdoor seating. Unfortunately, the customer service left a lot to be desired. We greeted the staff when we walked in, but our greeting wasn't acknowledged. The interaction throughout our visit felt rushed, and there wasn't much engagement or guidance while we were ordering, which made the experience feel less welcoming than we expected. We ordered several items during our visit. Eli really enjoyed his Biscoff gelato-based drink, and it ended up being the highlight of our experience. However, the pineapple lemonade was overwhelmingly tart. We could barely taste the pineapple, and even after adding sugar at home, it was still much too sour for our taste. We also tried another frozen gelato-based specialty drink, but it wasn't something we would order again. Overall, the décor and Eli 's drink earned this review a second star, but the customer service and the quality of the other items we tried left us disappointed. We hope future guests receive a warmer welcome and that some of the flavors become a little more balanced.
