Mebane is a haven for chains, so it was a pleasant surprise to find this small independent bakery so close to all the national retail. It reminded me of Amoroso's in Greensboro albeit with a more limited selection. That said, everything that was in stock - cakes, cheesecake rolls, traditional Italian desserts, and more - looked appealing. The woman working the counter was patient while I looked everything over. In the end, I opted for a cannoli, and it proved to be a good decision. Even after the drive home, it was still tasty. Mebane is far from the first place that comes to mind when you think of Italian bakeries, but if you're out this way and looking for one, Distefano's is the first name you should think of.

I found this gem while finding a local coffee shop while driving. I was not expecting a bakery full of massive desserts, which got me more excited that I stopped here. I got the Boston Crème Cake and a peppermint mocha latte. The two ladies behind the counter were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I also noticed how this is a Christian friendly and super laid back environment, which is definitely a plus for me! I will definitely be back to this spot in the near future!

This is a great spot for pastries and bagels. I've been a few times before and each time they have a different selection. I went about 15 minutes after they opened and they were still bringing out some of the items. The bagels were so fresh and delicious and still hot when I got home. We got the cheddar bagel and sun-dried tomato bagel, both were so good! We also got a few muffins, which were also amazing. The blueberry muffin had so many big, fresh blueberries in them and the cinnamon crunch muffin was also good. I'm so happy I found this yummy bakery!

The first time I found this spot, I was so obsessed I was literally coming here every single day (no shame at all). The donuts are always fresh, beautifully made and dangerously delicious. Every visit tastes just as amazing as the last, which says a lot because consistency is everything. Beyond the donuts, the customer service is always phenomenal and the prices are surprisingly reasonable for the quality you're getting. At this point, it's become a tradition anytime I'm heading to visit family in Florida, I have to stop here and grab a dozen to bring with me. Safe to say these donuts now have fans in multiple states. Highly recommend if you're looking for a treat that's worth every bite.

So it was a no-brainer that I stopped by, especially since they live in Durham. I stopped in about 2 PM on a Friday and they have practically sold out of most things, which is not unlikely. There's often a long line when they open to get fresh donuts. I got a red velvet doughnut, an apple fritter, and a regular cruller. They were so light and airy and practically melted in your mouth. I could see how dangerous it would be if I lived closer I would probably stop every week! It's a family owned restaurant so it was nice to see them all working together and all smiles. I really loved that. They were super helpful in suggesting their favorite items and encouraging me to come again so I can try their different options. I'll definitely be back-thanks NC Jelly Donuts for a great first experience!

I have been craving for a while and so today for lunch, thought I'd give in to the craving. Now, full disclosure, I got delivery today. I have a few meetings I can't miss so I relied on a delivery service. I don't think it had anything to do with the food quality though. I ordered general tso's combo plate with a veggie roll. Additionally I ordered veggie lomein for tomorrow, more on this in a bit. The dish looked like Generals chicken, but had a weird smell. I tried a piece of chicken and was put off by a chewiness one doesn't expect with chicken. I thought it was just that piece so I tried another. Nope, gross chewy texture. The sauce wasn't spicy at all, but sticky sweet. Also, the rice had a very weird flavor. Blech. So much for that craving. The egg roll was actually pretty good if somewhat soft. The flavor was pretty decent. This is where we come back to the lomein. A single egg roll and 2 pieces of chicken aren't really enough so I was very grateful I ordered an additional dish. Sadly, the lomein was seriously soupy. Just over flowing with soy sauce. Just ..gross. Well, it's not the best health wise so I'm glad for the result. I am now completely off Chinese food.

Not coming back. In Detail: We went in for lunch and immediately had an uncomfortable interaction with the woman taking orders -- no greeting and a noticeably hostile tone. The menu at the counter didn't match prices; she said several items had an upcharge without explaining which or why. We asked if the lunch that included an egg roll could be substituted (we don't eat pork) and she flatly refused, then offered a drink instead -- even though a drink was already listed as included. When we began choosing, she limited us to only the front row of the fridge and acted annoyed the whole time. After deciding we didn't want the meal, we asked to cancel and requested a refund. Only a minute had passed but she refused, saying she'd already started working on it. Between the rude tone, misleading pricing, and refusal to refund a canceled order, this was a poor experience. Thanks to this Pilot Travel Center for introducing me to Haw River, North Carolina. I never knew…read moreHaw River, a town which is located in Alamance County, existed until stopping to get gas here. It's named after the nearby Haw River which you cross over when riding on I-40/I-85. This Pilot is located just off the aforementioned interstate, exit 150. It's roughly halfway between the Triad and the Triangle. Pilot and Flying J Travel Centers (same company) are more like truck stops and comparable to Love's Travel Stops, as opposed to QuikTrip and Sheetz stores, with convenience stores that offer much more than just refreshments. Oftentimes, fast food and other chain restaurants will be on-site. In the case of this Pilot, there's a Dairy Queen and Wendy's attached to the store. Across the street, there's a Flying J with a Denny's connected to it. I just stopped to fill up on gas on my way to Chapel Hill from High Point. The gas station at this Pilot has eight pumps. I used pump #4 and it was in good condition, from the screens to the handle to the buttons. The paper towel dispenser was stocked and my paper receipt printed out clearly. The price of the gas (premium) was not as good as the prices I paid immediately preceding this fill-up at places like the Costco in Durham, QTs in Georgia and South Carolina, and a Kroger in Georgia. Compared to those places, the price for premium gas here was anywhere from $0.13 to $0.39 higher per gallon. At the same time, I didn't feel that the price was unreasonable, just more on the pricey side. I'd stop here again if I had to. This is Pilot store #6955.
