I needed a quick bite on my way back from a weekend in NYC, decided to hop off 91 and landed in a little town off the beaten path, called Wallingford CT. I wound up in a strip mall and chose a restaurant called Cheek's Chicken and Waffles. One of the featured items on the menu are chicken wings. I chose buffalo style and let me tell you, they were some of the best wings I've ever tasted. Buffalo sauces can be tricky, either too hot or band but the sauce was perfectly seasoned and my onion rings were crispy, fresh and delicious. If you're ever on the 91 and see the exit for Wallingford, do your self a favor and stop by Cheek's Chicken and Waffles and have their Buffalo wings, you won't be sorry! Came here after a comedy show with about 30 minutes left before closing. We ordered the 6 piece chicken combo (came with more), mac & cheese, and curly fries. It almost tasted like they made too much and that was left leftovers and they just threw it back in the fryer. The chicken came out very oily and greasy. The mac & cheese was really creamy and was good on the first night. After heating it the second night it didn't taste as good. The fries were about the best thing. A Cajun style crispy curly fry. This place has REALLY good waffles. The honey butter is SO good. Wouldn't call either cheap or pricey. Portion sizes pretty large, staff always friendly. They have some good deals going if you order wings and trays for events . Restaurant is small with some booths, usually pretty quiet. read more

We stopped by there for dinner and ordered a chicken wrap and chicken and waffles. I thought the wrap was ok, it was a traditional wrap with pieces of chicken and the different sauces to dip in. The chicke and waffles were decent, the chicken was good a little overcooked, but had good flavor. I would definitely give it another try if I'm in the mood for fried chicken. Walked in and this spot had a nice family diner vibe throughout the establishment. I felt welcomed from the second I entered and I know my Foodie Fam will say, " Everyone makes you feel welcome for they know who you are" So I guess I can't really lay that one on you smooth but believe it or not, I am not known everywhere I go and that's always a good thing. I need to truly experience what everyone else does but I digress. The young man behind the counter gave me a few options that he thought I should try and yes, it is because he recognized me. I definitely placed my order for what others had tried at this location and I asked for my waffle to be crispy, being there were a few complaints about an undercooked waffle from other reviews. A few dishes were brought out in total but the first two were French fries and Mac n cheese. Now the fries were curved and seasoned with love. Very tasty and the potato itself had a nice bite back. However the Mac N Cheese definitely needed salt. It was creamy and cheesey but not as flavorful as I usually hope for it to be but it is what it is. I wanted to dive right on into the reason for my arrival. The chicken breast was thin and cooked well, so it had some dried out moments but that was quickly overshadowed with the house sauce flavor. Sweet Heat and not the type of heat that would send you running away, but it was a light hint of heat. Their house sauce is CRAZY and when placed on anything, it truly drives your flavor palette insane. I also had wings: Lemon Pepper that delivered so much pop and finesse on the dry rub, they held extreme strength in taste and I love that! A slight crunch on the skin and now we are playing a ferocious game of yes yes and more yes! The wet garlic part didn't really do it for me, they were good but I would had rather the dry rub option but their house special wings came packed with greatness in each bite and so some wings are better wet as others need to be dry. I have been here at least 20 times. Every time I go there I am impressed. Good size portions and the wings are great tasting. The staff is super friendly and accommodating with my requests. I am normally a boneless wings girl but I actually love the bone in better. My husband is normally a bone in but loves the boneless, so we switch off each time we order. The food here is SO delicious! We tried the chicken and waffles with grilled chicken since one of us can't have fried chicken and it was AMAZING!! The store was empty when we arrived on a Saturday around 3 for a late lunch, the girl at the counter was super personable. The place was spotless and has 4-6 counter seats and I'd say 5 or so 4 seater booths, it is in a slightly sad looking plaza, but there is plenty of parking. We ordered cheese & broccoli bites, tater tots, a chicken & waffles, and 10 chicken nuggets. Drinks were from a refrigerator of coke products. Everything came out super fast, she brought the items to the table and hooked us up with utensils, & syrup. Very tasty quality chicken, tater tots dusted with a very slight spice, super crispy and good. Cheesy broccoli bites were delicious too. After visiting Cheeks Chicken and Waffles the question that now plagues me is "Could the volume of various cheeks' special sauces I've consumed permanently change the fundamental composition of my DNA?" The variety of chicken options at this place takes 10-15 minutes to cook up, but that's because the ingredients are fresh and it's cooked to order with counter-service. I ended up with a "deluxe cheekin sandwich" and some fries which came to less than eight bucks. I decided to eat this delicacy near the side of the business/tiny strip mall until I realized I was about 20 feet from an actual dumpster and a leaking drain pipe; this made me feel like a meth-fiend (but for chicken). A chicken addict. I looked around to ensure my disgusting behavior wasn't spotted by too many people and decided to save the rest to eat later in the privacy of my own home like a gentleman. It's been a good 4 or 5 times I've ordered from CC&W before writing to you all today. What got me hooked to this place was the delivery/pick-up options available through Yelp, Uber Eats, and traditional calling in an order (last one with no fee of course, so go do that). I've only stepped foot inside once, noticing that the place is a bit gaudy and built in a way to get you in to get you out quick like most fast food places (bright colors and lights, cheap booth seating, etc.). I don't think that's so much a problem though, considering that's EXACTLY what this place is and should be. Cheeks is an establishment that gets the job done and in a satisfying way. With that being said, lets move onto the food. I've had their spicy chicken sandwich, basic chicken wrap, and wings with combinations of General Cheeks, garlic parm, and honey BBQ sauces. Always with hash fries. No use in listing which was better or worse, they all hit the spot and make you feel fried food terrible afterwards in the best or worse way possible, depending on your general outlook. Don't want that feeling? Then you've seriously have not looked at the menu. Overall, Cheeks is one of those places where the food looks, tastes, and generally feels like you would imagine it would considering everything.
