The Smokehouse Burger with broccoli side (trying to be healthy)!
Marian B.

Girls lunch so decided to check out Cheddar's! We were immediately greeted by a lovely hostess, seated in a comfortable booth, the waiter appeared momentarily with a basket of warm honey-butter croissants. The restaurant was clean, comfortable, pleasant decor, with low noise impact. Food was serviced quickly, well plated, portions were perfect for our appetites. Would recommend the Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen to anyone who enjoyed a good home style meal.

Landed here at peak dinner hour (5:30-6pm) and were able to be seated immediately while the place was packed. Service was a little slow to get going initially but once we received our drinks everything seemed to keep rolling. Food is always good here and pricing is excellent accompanied by a super casual atmosphere. Anytime a group of 6 can dine for under $100 (which included an appetizer) you're doing good!

Cheddar's Trio Sampler
Michele G.

So first we ordered onions rings and the server came back and asked us again what we ordered we told her. Then they bring us spinach dip told them we didn't order that and then they try to bring the spinach dip back again. Then told her for the fourth time we ordered onion rings. Then she brings us our dinner I order the trio sampler and honestly looks like someone threw the items on the plate. Then I tried the chicken and well even thought you could tell it was old by looking at it I tried it and it was dry and rubbery. We told the server and she said I figured and said she would bring me new ones she did, they were a little better but she didn't bring me 4 but 3 but at this point I wasn't going to complain anymore. The server showed use she was very unhappy to be there and the service showed that too in how she spoke to us and the looks she gave when we would ask for something. Have to say this is not the first time we have had horrible service or the food was not worth half of what they ask for. But I wanted to give them another try. Well that was the last time I come to this and maybe any Cheddar's. I go out to eat to have good service and good food and if I can't get at least one of those then why go back to the place if they prove time and time again they can't provide that.

Our waitress was great. Tried to get 2 different apps with no luck. The food was decent but not great.

Good news, we made it back to Cheddar's. Bad news, it was beyond disappointing and will likely be our last visit. We stopped in on a Friday night. We were seated right away, but I later realized we were in the bar area. The booth was fairly tight and uncomfortable for a party of 4. Service was friendly but slow, which I didn't understand considering how few people were at the restaurant. My kids opted for a Jr burger off the kids meal. They got a drink and side. Fries and side salad were average, but the side of broccoli was inedible. I got chicken tenders. No flavor to the breading, so odd. Thank goodness for the honey mustard. The flavors of the food were pitiful. I hate when you leave a meal feeling like you wasted your money.

Cornmeal White Fish Platter, baked potato just plain, and Broccoli Cheese Casserole.

I ordered the Wisconsin cheese bites which was basically cheese sticks...not that good but also not bad at all. 6.5/10 and for my meal I ordered the cornmeal white fish platter. Typically whenever I go here I always order the same thing. The fish is great and I usually order 2 broccoli cheese casserole because why not!!!? When the name changed from just Cheddars the taste of the broccoli cheddar casserole changed and I've been disappointed since then. This used to be my number one favorite restaurant but now it's just on my list of places to eat when I think about it. The service was pretty good, friendly faces and nice staff. The only thing I didn't like is how everyone that came in was bunched in one area to eat and we weren't spread out the way I prefer. But oh well they may have been short staffed. The ambiance is always beautiful and the restaurant was clean!

Honey Butter Croissants

Haven't been to this place in about 10 years. It was a Sunday evening, wait time was 10-15 mins for a party of 4. Our server was polite, fast and on top of everything. The complimentary croissants came out fresh, buttery and hot. Very flakey and a nice treat instead of the same ol rolls at most places. We started with cheese fries and the spinach dip. Both were served hot, fresh and very yummy. Only complaint was the chips served with the dip were mostly broken pieces /crumbs. Made it difficult to scoop. Our meals came out as we finished our appetizers, which I appreciate!! So many places mess this up by bringing out the meal right after the appetizers arrive. All meals were served warm-hot. The Cajun pasta was plentiful, however, it was very dry and lacked saucy-ness. Def needs to have more of the sauce to give it a more powerful taste and prevent noodles from drying up. Same for the chicken Alfredo- it has more sauce, but still the pasta was more dry than should have been. The broccoli was cooked perfect tho! The ribs also- needed way more sauce!! Ribs are suppose to be saucy and messy. They were also a bit on the overcooked-dry side, but still good. The key west chicken was the only meal that had no complaints, chicken was juicy and seasoned well. Overall, these are easily corrected things and it didn't ruin the meal. We would give them another try.

There are also picnic tables out front. You get a faint whiff of the grill/smoker upon entering. Kylie was our bartender and she was fabulous - knowledgeable, friendly, and answered all of our questions with patience. Wife ordered a mango margarita and doesn't like a lot of tequila, so Kylie went half and gave her a shot on the side in case she wanted to add more. It was wonderful. I had a couple of beers. We started with the fried mushrooms, which aren't what you would expect. It's two large portobellos cut into chunks, battered, fried, and served with sun-dried tomato mayo. They were great. I then ordered a duck taco, brisket taco, and a side of Grippo Fries with smoked mayo. I'd never tried duck but that taco was smack-a-lackin'. The brisket taco was also good, and the fries were fantastic - sweet and spicy, fresh cut, and crispy. Wife ordered a pork belly slider and truffle fries. She enjoyed the slider but didn't care for the fries - just not her thing. The portions here are large. A side of fries will feed three people. We took a hefty portion of them home, as well as some of the mushrooms. We could've sat there at the bar and spent 3 hours socializing and enjoying a smattering of cocktails - love the setting. Look forward to going back and trying one of the burgers at some point.

I was going to a UofL women's basketball game and I FINALLY was able to make it here. I went a little overboard on the food, but everything sounded so good! I really loved the pork belly slider and the duck tacos. Mac and cheese balls always slap. Then there are the famous duck fat fries. The portion is substantial, I was thrilled with that. Flavor wise they did not change my life like I was hoping they would. Still ate them all. The locale is super unassuming from the street, but inside it is really cool, divey, and broody. The staff was super sweet and helped me get in and out efficiently so I could make it to the game. Would absolutely recommend, would absolutely come back, and would absolutely bring friends here.

The atmosphere is casual but super comfortable with a lot of natural light inside. We ordered a blackberry lemonade which was pretty good, not super strong blackberry flavor. The grilled cheese is amazing--such a great combination of sweet and savory and super cheesy. The dipping jam is the best part! The Mac and cheese is one of the best I've ever had. It's crunchy and has a good deep flavor. The chicken was pretty good--nothing crazy, but I expected it to be crispier. Collard greens were a good side to balance it a very carb-heavy meal. Prices are pretty reasonable. Overall had a great experience--will definitely be back for the Mac and grilled cheese!

I first came here because they had ballast point sculpin on tap. After they pulled back (ballast point) out of the east/mid west I was happy they replaced it with cigar city Jai Lai. Not sculpin but delicious as well. About 18 months ago maybe more they dropped Jai Lai and now they have 1 IPA on draft. The food was ok. Got the chicken sandwich. Lots of breading not lots of chicken. Didn't want the spicy mayo and asked for mustard, they don't have mustard. Who ever heard of a restaurant that doesn't have French's in a squeeze bottle. Bartender was nice and it's a great sized and pleasant environment just very disappointed in the ipa selection and the quality of the chicken vs the price. Friday evening and pretty sparse crowd. Good luck folks.

And let me tell you, it's obvious there's new ownership, new style, new menu and all for the better. The decor was giving a Bakersfield California vibe right in Louisville Kentucky. Visually appealing, honky Tonk with a small splash of humor. The day we went, was a sunny spring, I preferred indoor - we were sat at a super spacious booth. Menu is one page but they absolutely nailed it. He ordered a Hemingway. It came in a beautiful copper coupe with a dehydrated orange slice. Classy, cool with a kick. We started with the Mexican Hot Cheese dip. It's not your typical queso -- this had chilis, onions, garlic, jalapeños as toppings and it was delicious. It was accompanied by house made chips. The cheese though... Hubs had fried catfish with the Nashville Hot option and I had a Caesar salad with fried chicken. Fried Nashville hot catfish verdict - Very good, very spicy, very crispy. Caesar with chicken...I stole a crouton off the top, "that garlic crouton was amazing, I could eat those like a snack." The salad itself was divine. The dressing is light, you can taste the green chilis without the spicy kick. I could eat this salad every day! Of course we had to try the Mexican crème brûlée. Super creamy, chocolatey with spice custard with a delicate brûlée sugar on top, garnished with fresh strawberries. Same restaurant, new flavors better service, awesome experience.
