Went last night for a birthday dinner, 11 people, all adults. Met there 4:50. I had called the week before for a reservation since it was a party of 11 on a Saturday. Was told they didn't take reservations but that I should call 30 min ahead of arrival and they would have a table set up for us. Called at 4:30. Was told that they didn't take reservations. I explained I knew that but I had been told that if I called 30 min ahead we could be seated. The young woman I spoke to said well.... It would probably be a 45 min wait. I asked do you mean 45 min from now (4:30) or when we get there. Some humming and hawing and well maybe when we get there because they are on a first come basis. They don't take reservations. Duh! I know, that's why I'm calling 30 min ahead. We get there 10 til 5:00. Told them I'd called in. Didn't have anything written down. Said ok. There's a wait. We ended up waiting over an hour& 15 min to be seated. Asked numerous times about how much longer. Was told they were waiting for a big party to leave. Some in our party were getting a little irritated. Now.... Once we were seated, in a bit of a tight area, it was great from that point on. The waitress was excellent (she was tipped well). The food came out fairly quickly and was hot and all orders were right. Drink glasses refilled, checked on us several times during meal. I will go back again as food, services & prices are good. But someone needs to get their stories straight and not tell people on the phone to call ahead to be put on wait list when there obviously isn't one. Next time we take all the family out, we will go somewhere where they do take a reservation. I don't mind a wait, if I'm told ahead of time and the wait is reasonable. read more

This is the 3rd time back since the poor service we had 5 years ago. This time was even more special than the reason why we didn't go back before. As we sat down to have a great steak dinner with broccoli and cheese. We found a large piece of plastic in our food. The manager was called over and she stated "It's not that big of deal, that is the plastic we use to keep our pots clean. Would you like us to make you so more?" When I denied the offer she stated "I will make sure that our cooks are aware of this so it doesn't happen again". This was absolutely disgusting and I want everyone to know about it. This was my first time visiting cheddars in independence. We came to have a bite before the chiefs game. This place was depressing!! All the employees looked very unhappy. The bartender that was there when we first came was rude and seemed bothered that she had to assist us. Thank goodness she left and Kielly, I think was her name, waited on us instead. She was very friendly and nice but also overworked and couldn't keep up with everything. She forgot to bring ranch for salad, finally after the 3rd time asking someone else brought it out and apologized for how busy Kielly was. But it was like 20 mins later. Then she forgot to bring green beans for one of the orders and we had to ask for that 3 times as well. We didn't get them till we were walking out the door. Also we asked a few times to put the playoff game on and was told they were working on it. Not sure what they were working on but it was never put in and we were there over an hour. Also when we first walked in I noticed a car in the parking lot had their window smashed out. I told the manager and she sighed and was like ok. Not sure if it happens all the time or what but it was a weird response. I was hype when getting here cause we were on our way to the Chiefs playoff game. This place looks nice but i wouldn't recommend it. My bf said to give it 1 star but I have it 2 only because of Kielly and the food did taste good. I came here today after a 2,000 mile drive and we were very hungry and we knew cheddars was a really good restaurant so we came here everybody was so polite the waiter was the best he was quick and nice and he got everything on the money like this is the best cheddars I have ever eaten at ever. Had dinner here tonight for the first time in a while. The food as always was very tasty and our waiter Jason was awesome, great vibes and very helpful and positive. The only downside was one of the food runners had some really condescending stuff to say about our waiter and it not only seemed very unprofessionally but rub my girlfriend and I the wrong way. It also didn't make any sense because he was fantastic. Not going to review poorly just because one bad apple, but definitely hurt my spirit about the trip a little bit. I went to Cheddar's for lunch with my grandmother and some of her friends. They absolutely adore this place so I was game to go. I hate to say that I'm just not a Cheddar's fan. Both times I have been, the food was subpar to my liking. I got the chicken fingers, fries and a small side of MacNCheese. None of it was good. I hardly ate any. The macaroni was a small scoop and it was cold. The chicken fingers tasted weird. Our waitress checked on us in the beginning about every 5 minutes and then when we were ready to order, she disappeared. She also was kind of rude. She didn't seem excited to be at work at all and was not overly friendly. All of this aside, my grandma and her friend loved their food. I personally thought it could be 100 times better. Would rate this place zero stars if I could. The one star goes out to our waiter, Conner, who was great and did his best to make our bad experience worth our time on Father's Day. He had a positive and kind attitude, and was able to make us laugh throughout our hectic 3 hour ordeal. We appreciated his exceptional customer service! We checked in, were told 30-45 minute wait. Waited an hour for a table as they sat several parties that had gotten there after us. Once we were sat down it took 30 minutes to get our drinks from the bar. Then it took an hour to get our entrees, which half of them were incomplete due to them running out of things. They were out of salad, baked potatoes, cole slaw, corn, and a couple of other dinner items. Once we got our dinner, half of it was cold. We tried to order dessert...they were out of carrot cake...said they had the monster cookie but once they brought out the cookie it didn't have ice cream on it as advertised on the menu. We asked about the ice cream and well, of course they were out of ice cream too I just can't understand why the kitchen continued to send out incomplete meals and desserts. There was clearly broken communication between the kitchen staff and the waiters. We wouldn't have ordered the items like the cookie if we had known it wouldn't come with ice cream. Cheddar's, you've betrayed me. I won't be back. I walked in, for lunch with my mom. I totally intended on chicken and waffles. That's the only thing on the menu I really like. The rest is blah. I read the entire menu twice, and couldn't find the selection.I asked the server, who said it was removed. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, which was ala Applebee's. Infact, Applebee's is cheaper. The rest of the menu, boring and trite. The other entree's, similar to anything I've had everywhere else. I'm bored with Cheddar's, and unhappy with the menu change. My cheeseburger was good, like Applebee's, but $2 more so why bother? My mom had the lunch serving of salmon. Slim's Chicken across the street has Chicken and waffles, but I've not been there so I can't say anything bad or good. Even the server said people aren't happy about the removal of chicken and waffles from the menu. Bring it back, and I will return. The menu had only a few items. They were a scattered amount of ordinary unexciting food. The dessert selection, move along. There are other restaurants in Independence, everyone floods to Cheddar's like it's the only place in town. I'm so unimpressed I won't be returning, unless they add chicken and waffles. read more

My favorite part was the colored alcoholic beverage in the picture, but even that was extremely sweet. I would definitely not come back here-- I'd rather go to 54th Street down the road for better quality food for the same price. And our server was pretty inattentive. The atmosphere and building itself gets a star. Very well decorated, very welcoming, very nice. My waitress was very nice, she was very accommodating and helpful, I like her. And that's about it. They used to give free croissants; not anymore. Actually they don't have any complimentary items, oh wait drink refills So we ordered drinks. They were ok, the steak and ribs were just ok. And I ordered a burger...and it was just a burger. All sides must be ordered separately. Huh! My family goes here probably at least once every couple of months- it's really good food at a great value. Every time the check comes we all think 'that's only as much as all this cost?!' The menu is basically 'down home cooking' but it's fresher, not as greasy as that label would normally imply, and there's more of an emphasis on healthier items than at some similar, family friendly restaurants. The tilapia with fruit salsa is my husband's favorite. The chicken pot pie is delicious and comforting, & my daughter loves their classic Monte Cristo sandwich. They have a great vegetable plate entree that is a generously sized side salad plus your choice of 4 vegetables from a list of about 12. The list includes steamed broccoli, apple and raisin creamy slaw, a baked potato, beans & rice, among many others. You can go ultra healthy or not. They used to have fresh, steamed edamame on the list, and I'm sad they took it off. You can order a plate of 3 of their special honey glazed croissants (so yummy!), and 1 croissant also comes free with any salad. They have an extensive cocktail menu, their cheese fries are dynamite, and if you still have room (the portions are fairly big- expect leftovers,) they have an incredible warm cookie dessert, served à la mode with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. It feeds 3 people easily. Cheddar's is often busy, but for good reason. I was reluctant to try this place. They didn't have this chain where I lived before. I was so impressed. In fact I've went twice in one weekend! The atmosphere is casually classy. The wait time isn't any longer than other places, but the service was wonderful. Now we can get to the food and drinks.... Amazing! Appetizers came out promptly along with our drinks (which are insanely inexpensive). We honestly couldn't find one thing about this place that we would change. I will start by saying that my wife and I liked Cheddar's. That is until last Friday 1/16/24 we were seated by the windows on the side of the building right under an air conditioning vent. We asked our server if we could be seated at another table, she went to ask someone about it and when she returned, we were told that it was mandated by corporate that the temperature be kept where it was and if we wanted another table, we would need to check in at the hostess station again and it would be another 30 - 45 minutes for us to get another table. We left for another restaurant, as we were leaving my wife, and I noticed a party of six or eight all sitting at their table with their coats on. Any manager with any sense at all would notice that their customers were uncomfortable and done something about it. Terrible lunch experience just completed. 4 people dining server forgets (or cook forgot) one complicated order (hamburger no cheese). After a 12 min wait (yes 12 min) hamburger arrived with cheese. By now, no matter how slow we ate, we were close to finished and our companion told waitress I'll just try and scrap cheese off which seemed to satisfy waitress but not me. I asked, politely, to "try" and bring us a hamburger with no cheese. 9 minutes later, we have all finished, and correct burger finally arrives. Waitress said "I told my manager and they are coming over to apologize". Manager NEVER came by and we were given a small discount on hamburger. I know Chedders is already cheap and crapy food, but if I wanted my food microwaved I would have stayed home. My wife and I went with our 2 year old. She fell asleep in the car so I got something to go. But the baby woke up so we went back in after paying and tipping the bar lady. I sat down at a booth and the waiter assumed I wasn't going to tip because my food was in a to-go container. So he got the manager and the manager told me I cant stay if i'm not tipping. I said "i'm eating right now how do you know i'm not going to tip"? My wife was going to eat and I would have tipped the new waiter but we were forced to leave the restaurant. My wife and daughter never got any food. They said we can sit at the bar. I have a 2 year old, she can't sit on a bar stool. So very unprofessional and honestly has no customer service. read more
