Very disappointing meal and experience. Took an extremely long time for our food to come out even the appetizers. The drinks were wrong on a few occasions. The steamed broccoli was burnt brown. Fried chicken was doughy. And what was supposed to be a medium steak was well done, barely warm, and hard as a rock. The waitress was at least nice. My kids and I had an early dinner today and our visit was quite nice. We came in and were sat right away, our table was still dirty but the hostess was nice enough to clean it off. We ordered appetizers before our meal and it all came out very timely. I hate when the entree comes out two seconds after you get the app. Good job Cheddars! We will be back. Meh. We've eaten at the Wichita KS location for years so expected the food quality and taste to be just as good. It wasn't. The chicken pot pie was average and the chicken fried steak terrible - it looked and tasted like a banquet frozen dinner. The gravy was gross and pastelike. Service was good and the price reasonable. I met a lady who told me this place was her favorite, perhaps I should have considered she looked like a grandma. If you like golden corral you will probably think this place is the bomb. If you think applebees is fine dinning with a plethora of choices, you will prolly be impressed also. However, if you like a wide selection of items on the menu, food that has some type of flavor(other than the frozen pre packaged salted to the point of being"cured"hamburger patties they serve) than this place will suck as bad for you as it did for me. I got the shrimp, which tasted like fried shrimp should, but got only 7 pieces and had to fill up on my kids extra fries and leftover hamburgers. Hamburger was so bad I went back to the fries. Oh and they screwed up two of my families orders. (Put Dijon mustard on my kids burgers which we emphatically requested to be plain. Our party of 8 arrived at 1:15 and there was supposed to be a 20 minute wait. We were seated at 1:45 and ordered appetizers. After a 20 minute wait for the appetizers, the onion rings were room temp when we got them. 7 of us received our food and one plate wasn't delivered. The waitress checked on it and said it would be 4 minutes. Over 10 minutes later we reminded her the plate had not been delivered. We all had slowly nibbled our food so my 85 year old father in law would not being eating alone and feel rushed. So in the end we all had a cold lunch. We had to ask for drink refills and only some of those were delivered. In the end the late plate and appetizers were no charge(compliments of the server, the manager never came to our table) however, since we all had a cold lunch from waiting, we will not be returning. read more

Terrible. Terrible. Everything was TERRIBLE. After the wait to be seated, we waited another 15 minutes after our drink order for the server to come back and take our food order. Then waited 20 minutes for our appetizer. Our food took about 45 minutes to come out. During the time we were waiting, my 10 month old son was hit in the head with a tray stand (by a server that obviously was not paying attention) She was apologetic and offered to get a manager. My look of death told her that she probably should get a manager but NO ONE ever came to speak to us. The food came out. Finally. TERRIBLE. I went to Cheddars to celebrate a birthday. I called ahead to see if they took reservations or how long of a wait. 30 minutes I was told. I got there 45 minutes early and waited an hour and half. After two times of asking, each time being told it would just be another few minutes, the manager stepped over to say she had no idea when we might be seated. They only had two tables that would seat a party of 8. Apparently the idea of pushing two tables together wasn't appealing enough. I have never seen such a poorly managed busiess model. I can't rate the food but the chaos and small seating area was ridiculous. I would only go if you have the afternoon to waste. read more

I really want to give this 3 1/2 stars. The price is very cheap for good quality food and most things I've had taste great and portion sizes are generous. There is only one problem and it happens around 70% of the time. I know this because I go there all the time. Here's the problem: Expect to wait a long time on getting your food. Seriously, it happens more often than not. I've especially noticed it more when sitting on the bar side for some odd reason. I have been to this restaurant twice. The first time a waited for over an hour for a table, but I didn't think anything of it since it was a Saturday night. The food was inexpensive and not bad for the price (though I wouldn't call the food fantastic either). The second time I went back (lured by the price more than anything else) I waited for an hour and 45 minutes. I asked the hostess about the wait, since I watched several parties be seated after waiting 20 minutes to half an hour, and she very sheepishly admitted that Cheddar's purposely does not have enough tables to accommodate larger parties (I had a party of five). They do this because they feel it is faster and more profitable to turn over smaller tables. Fine. If that is there business model, no harm no foul, I just won't go back because with three daughters and a wife, I will always have a "large party." The thing that I found funny was that it still took close to an hour to get my food after we had been seated. So much for their high turnover rate. This second trip, I had the nachos which were good. My wife had the Monte Cristo, which was very good the first time that we went, this time it smelled funny and you could tell it had been deep fried in very old oil. Very unappetizing. I noticed the lady next to me had order the chicken fried steak and it had that same dark, overdone look to it. read more

My mother, husband, and myself treated ourselves to Cheddars for lunch on July 12. We love the food here, but live too far to go often so we were looking forward to it. The food was, as usual, excellent. The issue was the company we were forced to keep. The restaurant was just opened for the day about a minute before we arrived, so there was ample options as far as seating us went. We waited in the foyer only about two minutes before we were lead to our booth in the back room. Fine. Nice booth, all was well. Until they brought in a phalanx of high-school soccer girls and set them at the table across from us. The coaches/supervisory adults were seated at the far end of another room, far away from the girls, and apparently, these girls wanted them to be able to hear all about their lives anyway. If I heard the word 'selfie' shouted from these ladies once, I heard it 100 times. They were loud, obnoxious, and made any attempt at conversation at our own table impossible unless we too wanted to speak as if we were in a club. The waitress, who was present for multiple examples of this rude loudness, should have offered to move us somewhere more quiet, but did not. It ruined our lunch as we had planned to have a talk about several subjects and could not hear ourselves over the chattering crowd. read more

If you're looking for a delicious but cheap meal- Cheddar's should be your first choice. The menu is large and has a wide variety of choices that will keep me coming back to try them all. My family and I went out to dinner at Cheddar's around 5, so naturally it was busy, but were seated in less than five minutes. Our waiter was friendly and did his job well throughout dinner- never leaving us waiting for long periods of time, but not checking in on us every two minutes. We ordered onion rings as an appetizer, which came out in around five minutes. Let me just say, if you're looking for the best onion rings around- go to Cheddar's. They're crispy, but not too crispy, hardly greasy, and taste great. If you're in the mood for a salad, but don't want just a salad, the Vegetable Plate is perfect. You get a good sized salad or soup and four sides of your choice, along with a croissant for only $8. The Caesar salads are very good, but you may want to ask your waiter to go easy on the dressing. The Monte Cristo is one of the most enjoyable foods I have ever tasted. It is basically ham and cheese wrapped in soft, sweet bread that you dip in a raspberry sauce. Those combinations of favors work together perfectly to make a rich, delicious bite of heaven. Easily one of my favorite foods. The Cheddar Club sandwiches are a good choice if you want a fresh, very delicious, and well crafted sandwich. You get a lot of sandwich in one order that has the perfect balance of meats and tomato. Salad lovers are in the right place at Cheddar's. No more fist sized salads- Cheddar's salads are bigger than your head! They are definitely worth your while and have a palate pleasing selection of flavors. The best thing about Cheddar's is that you have a huge selection of delicious meals to choose from, and all of them are less than $15. The wait for a table, fair. We were not expecting the low prices but I guess you get what you pay for, I ordered the tenders and shrimp combo with steamed broccoli and red beans and rice for sides. The broccoli was perfect but needed som butter sauce to make it a little tastier. The red beans the rice was like a soup, way too wet. The chicken strips wer hot and bland, very little seasoning. The shrimp was grilled and flaverful with some rice and vegetables that did not have any flavor. My wife ordered fried catfish with coleslaw and broccoli cheese and rice cassarole. The broccoli in the cassarole was raw, the slaw was too sweet and bland and the catfish was flavorless. My son ordered the chicken fried steak with red beans and rice and mashed potatoes that were decent. The chicken fried steak had more breading than steak with very little seasoning and tough. Cheddar's Casual Café is one of my favorite restaurants to eat at. Only being about 10 minutes from my house is also a plus. One thing about Cheddars though is that, here, it is always packed but usually never being more than a 15-20 minute wait. Our recent visit on a Sunday afternoon at 2:00, we were told that we had about a 10-minute wait till we could be seated. However, we only had to wait less than 5 minutes for our buzzer to go off and to be lead back into our booth. After being seated, our waiter was not that far behind to take our drink order: two Dr. Peppers. After receiving our drinks we ordered our favorite appetizer, which are the onion rings. He let us know that these would take a bit of time to prepare so he hurried to put the order in for us. A couple minutes later he returned to take our order for our main course meal. I ordered the homemade chicken potpie, my absolute favorite dish to get. It comes with the choice of a house salad or caesar salad and a glazed croissant. My girlfriend, Kelly, ordered the chicken alfredo with a house salad on the side that also comes with a croissant. Less than 10 minutes after ordering from our waiter, our onion rings and house salads came out. I really liked this because it came out before our actual meal, instead of everything coming out all at once. The onion rings came out nice and hot; they were stacked high with crispy breading and two choices of dipping sauces: ranch dressing and a tasty chipotle ranch sauce. Our salads came out on chilled bowls with fresh cut cold lettuce, mixed in with slivers of carrots, cut cherry tomatoes, and croutons. The salads were covered with their awesome buttermilk ranch dressing that completes the dish in appeal and taste. Along with the salads were the croissants that were amazing. Topping it off with a blend of honey and butter. The main course came out in almost perfect timing. We had finished up our salads and were snacking on the onion rings when a waitress appeared with our freshly done main course meal. My chicken potpie came out really hot and I even had to wait a few minutes for it to cool down, but when it did, it was delicious. The mix of small carrots, peas, and bits of chicken with the flakey, golden crust is the exact reason why I love this dish so much. Kelly's dish came out looking just as delicious as mine. The penne pasta was mixed with broccoli and carrots. Coating all of that was a creamy white alfredo sauce. Finishing off the dish laid a grilled chicken breast that looked to be cooked to perfection. The overall experience was absolutely wonderful. The waiter was really efficient; we never had to think about when our next refill would come because he would already be there with a brand new glass. He checked up on us frequently to ask how the food was, but not to much. As for the atmosphere, the temperature did not seem to be to cold or to hot. Even though the place was very busy, the restaurant was spread out enough that it did not seem over crowded or too loud. The lighting seemed to fit the occasion: it was neither too bright nor too dim. In the end, the price was reasonable for the amount of food we had received. We obtained two unlimited drinks, two side salads with a croissant roll, an appetizer of onion rings, and two main courses all for about $32. Whether you're looking for some place to go on a date or to have a family outing, Cheddar's is a great choice for any occasion at a reasonable price. read more

I was finally contacted by the General Manager "Jordan" from the Independence Missouri location 2 weeks after sending in a comment and calling corporate. I am certain that if I had not called corporate, I would have never have gotten a response from Jordan. When talking to Jordan, I explained how on May 18th, 2015, we were notified after 2 1/2 hours that the restaurant had run out of may food items. We were never approached by the server, or the manager that was on duty during our wait and told about the food items being out. We were not told anything till the food was brought out. Jordan agreed that it seemed a little fishy that they would have run out of food, for as he put it, in his 3 years as general manager, he has never been in a restaurant that has ran out of food. I personally feel that staff was just being lazy and chose not to prepare the food which management also was OK with. Jordan apologized in great length, and told me that he was send us a $50.00 dollar gift card to use on another visit as a way for making up for the terrible service that we received. He also told me that he would contact my sister that had also sent in a email, but to this date, almost a month after the fact, he has not done so. The level of professional management is absolutely terrible, We still have not received the gift card as promised, and when I call to speak to Jordan, I am told that he is in a meeting, and will call me back, but he seems to never do so. I can assure you that I would never visit this location again. As a option, I will file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as well. I have been a customer to Cheddar's since they opened up in the Kansas City area, and I have never experienced the level of service that I have experienced at this Independence location. With all the other choice in the area that provide much better service, I will choose them over Cheddar's in the future. It is a shame that such poor management and customers satisfaction is the norm at this location, but it cost you a customer, and I would never recommend your location to anyone. read more

Meanwhile, two parties that walked in after us were finishing their entrees. Both the waitress and the manager have no clue how to handle an angry customer. Will never go back. If i could give this a 0 star i would. Came here on a Saturday night with my husband and daughter and it was ridiculously packed. The wait wasn't long before they sat us down in a booth by the kitchen. It took the waitress awhile before she took our order. She kept disappearing and it was really hard to get her attention when we needed something. Well as we were waiting for our food to come out(approx. 35 mins), a steak had flown and hit the back of my head and onions rings were scattered all over my purse! I was so shocked I didn't know how to react. The waiter came and explained how he tripped and he was going to get his manager over to talk. I remained calm because I'm usually not the type to complain. When the manager came over he stated that he was sorry and that he was going to give us a discount on our bill, which was fine because I didn't even ask for it. I forgave them and forgot about it until i seen our bill. It ended up he only took off three dollars off our bill which was very disappointing. Like wow really? A steak on my hair, onion rings all over my lv bag, and a horrible night and all we got was three dollars off?! I'm not asking for a free dinner but at least have some damn courtesy and make my entree complimentary! Three dollars off is lesser than the tax! I wanted to throw that three dollars back at his face but no, im better than that. Worst customer service ever and I can be proud to say I'm never coming back. She ordered a few entrees and some croissants. She received her food then drove away only to realize they didn't pack the croissants. So she came back in and told them it wasn't in there and what they had said was that it was because they ran out! At least give some warning or offer a refund! But nope! OH Cheddars. The place I rarely visited when I lived in VA because the food was cheap and the service was even cheaper. I move back to the Midwest and MAN, these places STAY packed. I'm talking an hour wait for mediocre food. I will say that their flavored teas cannot be matched. As they are some of the best I have ever had!! But The food is not that great to wait an hour for. I have waited less time and experienced better food. And yes I have also paid more. I'm a big fan of getting what you pay for. I have ordered their chicken tenders and shrimp. I left full but the food could have been better. My grandma loves the croissants from here. Those are probably the yummiest thing to eat here. If you are looking for a good place to impress a date, do NOT come to Cheddars. If you are trying to scare off a potential relationship partner, then YES come to Cheddars. BLEEHHHHHHHHHHH. Everything here is soooo heavy and fried and breaded and smothered in mounds of gloppy glop! Every single item is over-sweetened or over-salted or just over-sized. I know, I know...it's from Texas and it's a chain but come on! If you're going to go to the trouble of making a place look nice (for a chain), you could at least take a little effort and do something edible with the menu. My in-laws live in the area and really, the restaurant choices are very, very slim. So we came to Cheddar's. All I can say is that we'll never make that mistake again. I was depressed to see so many people streaming through the doors for this slop. My strawberry lemonade was so sweet and huge that I could only take three sips before avoiding a sugar coma. My "salad" was mostly corn- what is it with this place and corn? The fish "tacos" were two tiny, almost invisible "fillets" on some kind of tortilla I couldn't really even see because it was all covered- blanketed, really- in a gawd-awful white sauce with (you guessed it!) more corn. WTF? Have they ever actually had a taco? And let's not forget the super disgusting "croissant" that comes with the salad and is covered in some horrific frosting that they call "honey butter." First of all, the croissant is a French bakery item, generally served for breakfast, not as a bread accompaniment. It's supposed to be 99% butter, so you definitely wouldn't need to add more butter- or frosting. Secondly, even in America, the phony croissant hype went out in the 90s because by then most people caught on that when Burger King is selling a "croissant" every one has caught on to the fact that it's not really a croissant. And this place is Tex-Mex or Southern. Not French. Anyway, I wouldn't eat that thing if you paid me. God only knows what they put in it. We didn't stick around for dessert but I saw what people were ordering- huge slabs of chocolate goo covered with more goo-- fake whipped cream, chocolate sauce-- if you want to kill yourself with bad food loaded with horrific ingredients, Cheddar's is definitely the way to go. As for the service, it was almost as craptastic as the food- the guy kept calling us "ya'all" and didn't bother to address a mistake that had been made on one of the orders. "To Go" service is not recommended unless you're into long waits. I've tried to use "to go" many times and have success about half the time. When I've succeeded in ordering, I've usually held for 3-5 minutes to speak to someone. The other times, I refused to wait longer than 5 minutes and ordered elsewhere. Tonight, I tried to place an order and was put on hold and decided to see how long it would take to speak to someone. After 17 minutes on hold, I gave up. read more

This was in my top five worst restaurant experiences. We arrived at the restaurant at 630, with a party of 8 + a baby. I am not sure how easy it is to seat a party of 8. They offered us a booth made for 4 and to add chairs on the end of the table. Obviously, we refused. One person in our party noticed that a table, that could seat 8 was opening up and they gave it to us. Instead of 8 chairs, they could only find 7. So, we had to go hunt (and pester) for an 8th chair. We were seated at around 7 PM. Not an exceptionally long wait for a Saturday evening. We ordered drinks, appetizers and entrées all at once. The spinach dip was alright. Nothing to write about. The biggest issue was that our main dishes did not arrive until 930 PM. As nice as our waitress was, even she realized it was a long time. Everyone around us had come and home twice without so much as a glimpse at our food. When it finally arrived, after I had to go into the kitchen myself, it was ice cold. We all sent it back. I'm not sure if they microwaved it or cooked it again, but when it came back out, it was hot and leathery. I had the ribs and chicken tender combo. The meat was bad. I am not sure how much or how little skill it takes to make fries taste bad. In the end, the general manager (whose name escapes me but I recall it rhyming) came over twice , but neither time was to offer compensation of any sort. I made sure to write these feelings (I'm their condensed form) on the receipt. First time and last time customer. I can do better. read more

This location is lucky they received a dime from me, as if I knew how the hostesses treated my fiancé before being seated I would have left after demanding a word with the manager on duty. Apparently after talking inappropriately in front of everyone waiting (calling each other the b word and taking about making out with their boyfriends), they refused to seat my fiancé in a booth. When she asked, the girl rolled her eyes and proceeded to apparently pretend to ask the other girl monitoring the board who did not even look at the board before returning and telling my fiancé that all booths were taken. Clearly looking around the restaurant they were not. I was in the bathroom at this time, or our experience with this restaurant would have ended here. After being seated, our waiter was pleasant. The room was room temperature and the restaurant was very warm and uncomfortable. The food was average, but it's also inexpensive so I did not have high expectations to begin with. The one in Springfield was awesome, the one in independence is one of the worst restaurants I've been to in a long time. I got the New Orleans pasta, I found 2 separate chicken bones in my pasta. I ordered a tall beer, it came to me about room temperature. The glass was filthy, there was a piece of rice stuck to the outside of the glass. I also found a piece of rice or somethind else floating in my beer. Completely unappetizing. Save your money and go to any other cheap chain restaurant in the area. read more
