I've never really had a problem here until my last visit. We waited about an hour or so for our food to get to us. When the food came, my steak was DRY. it was so dry i had to down it with my drink everytime. They sat us in a very tight space and than they decided to seat a large party next to our table which made it even harder for us to get out of there. Went on a busy Saturday night and expected a crowd. There was a huge crowd but we were there for a birthday dinner so we decided to stick it out. We had a group of ten and waited from 6:20 to 7:50 to get seated. When we were seated we got placed at separate tables. Not fun for the birthday girl to have to step back and forth from table to table to see her friends. They said that the large table they had for large groups had been occupied for about 2 hours and the folks weren't leaving. The menu has been updated (and i didn't grab a picture) and they have literally everything. Definitely something for everyone on the menu. I went with the favorites section and got the New Orleans pasta. Large portion and very tasty. The frozen drinks that were on special were also good. Our waitresses initially fought over who got what table because of the tip I guess? I mean they confronted each other right there in front of us. But the service we received was subpar. Numerous times we were without drinks or forgotten items. I asked for waters at one point and she came back with just one glass for me since I asked when 3 other people had empty glasses. At other times we would just see them all hanging out backs on the wall with managers right there! Confusing when the restaurant was so busy. I have mixed feelings about this place. Let's start off with the things I like. Their food is pretty good. The broccoli and cheese casserole is a must have and they have a delicious side salad that comes with a honey croissant and it's TDF! Another thing I like about cheddars is the price range. $7-$15. That's pretty affordable for the college scene. Let's talk about the wait staff. I feel as if when Cheddars hires their servers, they try to hire the worst ones in the Charlotte area. I've been to this establishment 8+ times and I have yet to have good service. The only reason I keep coming back is for the Afro mentioned. The service is so bad it's frustrating to no end. Drinks are always empty, appetizers never make it to the table, orders always come out incorrect and you usually get an attitude. If I got do no stars I would ! After wasting a hour (service person up front blatantly showed that he did not want to be at his job) ignores my friend and I who were out to celebrate her birthday. We asked to be seated in the bar area he says their is no room and that we would be seated somewhere else. After going missing for about 10 minutes another waiter comes out and says it'll be a 30 minute wait. Upon that wait we noticed their were empty tables in the bar area and when asked why we couldn't be seated we were told that no one would "see us" if we sat there. When we finally do get seated, we order drinks , appetizers and entrees. Minutes go by and no drinks or anything else has been served. On top of us having to alter our orders twice being that they "were all out " . The closing time was 30 minutes away and still nothing was brung to the table. This restaurant is so conflicting to me bc i loved this restaurant as a child & teenager. Now that i am an adult with a child, i wanted to revisit this restaurant with my daughter. What a horrible mistake that was At my family dinner we ordered some beverages from the bar and waters, with a sprite for my toddler. After receiving waters, my daughters drink, and my owm beverage, we were left wondering if / when my husband's beverage would arrive.... when the waitress returned , I ordered another drink, a Piña colada -- which are excellent by the way-- and asked about his house margarita which at that time had been ordered around 20 minutes or so. Returning with my Piña colada , and a Long Island Iced Tea for my husband, we finally also got our delicious complementary croissants. Distracted by the deliciousness, it was around five minutes later when he realized his drink was incorrect, and in another five minutes we were able to speak to our waitress who implied we were wrong about the drink being a Long Island Iced Tea, and it was infact a House Margarita..... it wasn't until getting all of our food (or so we thought), that my husband finally received the correct drink order.... i was on my THIRD. Being that i was on my third drink it did take a moment for me to realize only 1/2 of my entree was served, -- i ordered a Filet mignon and coconut shrimp combination, only received the filet mignon. At the end of our meal i did recieve my coconut shrimp.... in a to-go take out container..... After speaking to the female manager who was completely oblivious of the facts, she offered a free dessert , we ordered the hot cookie and ice cream and we recieved the chocolate cake and ice cream..... how can they really mess up this one final thing??? At this point i was so upset and almost in tears about the fact this whole night was a disaster and we left completely dissatisfied, after of course recieving and paying 100% of our full bill, with absolutely every drink, entree and even the entire entree which i only received half of! We left the dessert on the table and walked out. I will never give another dollar to this "scratch kitchen", because even though the food may be great, the service is atrocious and absolutely unacceptable hospitality for spending over $125 on drinks and food. read more

If you ask me to describe the food it's BLAH. Steak was tough. Shrimp was overly seasoned and way too salty. The grilled chicken as overdone as well. Margaritas were really sweet. I doubt there was much alcohol in them. The Croissants were soft but I'd expect them to be warm since they were just made but they were definitely room temperature. I normally eat here every Friday for lunch. However on 2/23 I ordered my food and arrived at Cheddars 30 mins later for my food not to be ready. I was trying my hardest to be patient because I absolutely love this place. However I waited 30 more minutes and then the credit card machine was not working so I could not pay for my food. Went back today ordered my food at 12:50 arrived at 1:15, food not ready waited until 1:40 food still wasn't ready not to say I had to leave and go back to work....hungry, frustrated and disappointed!!! Horrible service every time I come here honestly wouldn't mind if they shut it down cause I tired of the long wait times on everything

I love coming here for lunch during the week and sitting at the bar. The service is great and they have given me several delicious food item suggestions that have become my favorites - The Caesar pasta salad with salmon is fantastic. Easily four stars () on these days. Today, however, I was able to sit in the bar AREA after waiting over 15minutes for someone to clean off three available tables. The manager was not friendly when I asked about a table being cleared and that was disappointing. My waitress was friendly and provided good service. It's just the overall vibe was different. I get my food and my shrimp hadn't be cleaned properly! Item returned and they give me chicken instead of salmon. I'm too done. Spoke to the manager and said to forget it. I wasted 45 minutes and still had not one bite of food. Plus they really need to do something about those slate floors. I'm surprised more people haven't slipped. Rule of thumb: Don't come here on a Sunday. I'll be back during the week when I know the service is better. read more

If I could give this location a negative number I would. The first time we went we waited over 20 mins at the check in table for someone to come and seat us. The restaurant wasn't even busy. Always willing to give a 2nd chance (and I had a gift card), tonight I called in to place a to go order. I was hung up on twice and waited 10 mins on hold the 3rd time to be transferred to the bar to place the order. The same person kept picking up the phone thinking I was someone new. After another 10 mins of holding I hung up. Getting a little aggravated and called again. The phone line was busy for the next 20 mins. I called in a order the to go server did an awesome job listening to what I wanted, repeating it and telling me my total. When I made it there 30 minutes later I sat outside for around 13 to 15 minutes until someone came out with my food. I ordered a kids tender meal with broccoli casserole and the chicken pecan salad with extra onions and extra pecans. The tender meal was cold which wasnt too much of a big deal since It was for my nephew later in the day. As far as the salad, I want what I want so I don't mind paying more for my extras. When I say that this is my favorite salad that I've ordered from other cheddars across the u.s so I'm very familiar with what to expect from the salad. When I say this was the most piss poor excuse for a salad, no onions at all, no cheese, very little toppings there was a very small amount of lettuce as well. I called in and the mgr brought me cheese and onions. I was just over it at this point. I regret not snapping a pic, with the covid going on I don't like touching my food boxes until I get home to wash my hands. I was very disappointed to say the least. I know that they were back to full dining so I'm not sure if that is the reason for my lackluster salad. I've heard about this place for at least a year but I'm never in the area so never even considered stopping in. As luck would have it, my girlfriend and I were headed that way this past weekend and I decided (last minute, crossing a minimum of 5 lines) to drop in! I'm glad I did, they hype was indeed true. I had heard the burgers were large and cheap (just like I like them!). I can confirm on both points, the burger was large, juicy with plenty of flavor and for something like $6 I got the burger and a drink included. Not bad if I do say so myself! I'll be back Cheddar's! I have always liked Cheddars for the variety, quality and value. While passing through NC on Monday, Feb. 18th, my husband and I were pleased to find a Cheddars (University area) for lunch. Upon entering we were told there would be a 15 min wait although many tables were empty and no one else was waiting.?? Being in no particular hurry, we agreed to wait. We were seated within that time frame. HOWEVER, after ordering we waited 45 minutes for our food! I ordered soup and salad and after about 35 minutes, I finally got the salad, but not the right one. When the full order finally came, it was very good. Would have shown more dissatisfaction to our waiter, but he already appeared somewhat nervous and WAS working hard. I'm not a fan of chain restaurants but I love this place. The decor is great and whether you are sitting in the bar, outside, or the regular dining area - i've always felt comfortable. The big fans they have on the ceiling are pretty cool The service is hit or miss. I've had great service but more often than not it's lacking. The homemade queso is EXCELLENT but my favorite is the loaded baked potato soup...I'm a big potato soup lover and their soup always hits the spot. The burgers are big and juicy and always cooked right. The fries are good too. This was my go to restaurant when I wanted a cheap good meal...great for college students!!!! read more

I first ate at this restaurant in 2016 and it was a wonderful experience. The atmosphere was pleasant, the food was very good, the staff was friendly and service was timely. While it was a bit of a drive for us, we enjoyed the place enough to make the extra travel time worth it. Fast forward to our visit there this past week though...I don't know what's happened but the place has really gone down hill. First off, the place was filthy. Stuff left on floors, food stuck on booth walls and the restroom, omg..the toilet seat had obvious prolonged accumulation of dried urine stuck on it..yuck. The hostess was pleasant and we were seated promptly but the waitress was cold, indifferent and slow. The food was mediocre at best...the soup was room temperature, the salmon was bland to the point of being almost tasteless and their famous croissants were overbaked on the outside and undercooked/doughy on the inside. The tea was weak with a hint of staleness. How sad that this place has been allowed to deteriorate to such a degree...we won't be returning. read more

Short review....decent home-style food served at a decent price. Nothing to write home about. First time here, but a solid option when in the University Area. I'm a NOTORIOUS "anti-chain" snob but HAD to check this place out before I took my French Language Class. So... I don't like to write a bad review, but I feel as if the manager should know. Saturday night my grandpa wanted to use the gift cards he had gotten for Christmas (the ones that included Cheddars, Olive Garden, Longhorn etc.) to take my boyfriend, my uncle, my cousin and I to dinner. He chose Cheddar's because he had eaten there once before at a different location and liked the food. We got there and there was a wait, but we were seated promptly, but after we were sat we weren't talked to for about 15-20 minutes. When our waitress arrived she seemed friendly, she took our drink orders and returned with them quickly, she then took our food orders, and after that we weren't checked on for about 45 minutes, at that point our drinks had been empty for a while, so we flagged her down and asked for some refills to which she replied "oh I didn't know if you wanted refills now or when your food comes" which I've never heard of being a server myself for over 4 years. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt as it was busy, and I understand what that is like, and it ended up taking about an hour for our food to come out, which isn't usually the serves fault, again trying to cut her some slack, the kitchen could've been behind. But then we got most of our food (I say most because my uncle didn't get his, and we were missing a soup, and a side of shrimp) and everything was lukewarm, or even cold. My uncle was handed his plate about 15 minutes later with no warning that the plate was very hot from sitting under the heat lamps in the food window, and we never got the shrimp. After we were finished, we asked for one Togo box and one check, at this point it was not nearly as busy, but for some reason this also took about 20 minutes. We arrived at the restaurant at 7:30, and by the time we got home, it was almost 11:00pm. At this point I couldn't give the server any more slack. We really only spent 30 minutes eating so to spend 2 hours at a restaurant waiting is ridiculous. The food I will say was really good, but unfortunately it's not worth the bad service we received. My grandpa was disappointed and so was I considering this is what he bought with his Christmas gift cards. read more

Honey croissants are delicious! I had the New Orleans pasta and it was delish too! The decor is nice but I think it's a little too formal for the type of food they serve. Also it is warm inside. Most restaurants usually have the air conditioning on blast but this place had me sweating a bit. Oh and the tortilla chips with cheesy dip is ridiculously good. Will def go back! read more

I've always been a fan of Cheddar's, but this night was not so great. I went with a group of friends, who was just hungry. So, we decided to stop in at Cheddar's because we usually have good service. So, the first thing: Bad service. The wait staff there was very rushed and didn't care for our issues. My friend found a rubber piece in her food and only deducted 10% off the item. What the heck? Second, my gravy on chicken steak and gravy was burnt. Who burns gravy? I told the waitress, who told her manager and the manager wasn't even shocked. Cozy place. Fast and friendly service. In a nice area of Charlotte. All of the food on the menu is priced very reasonably. You cannot go wrong with anything here. We ordered take out via their website on a Tuesday evening and they offered curbside pickup. We arrived at 7:10, parked at one of their curbside parking spaces, and was able to check in online to let them know that we have arrived. The food was supposed to be ready by 7:17. We waited. 7:27 comes around and I call to let them know that we were outside. The lady said she would "let him know." So then we waited...and waited. I called again at 7:37 and the same lady answers the phone. I let her know that this was my second time calling and we were still outside waiting for our food. She says the same thing: "I'll let him know." I asked her if our food was even ready and she says yes. She had a nasty attitude. So then we proceeded to wait and wait.....and wait, and yet no one brought our food out. So eventually, my boyfriend goes in and grab our food. Please tell me WHY you even offer curbside service and designated parking spaces for curbside pickup? If the lady had just said that they were not offering it or that they were busy, then we could have just walked in to pick up our food instead of waiting at the parking lot for over 40 minutes. While I really do love the food here, I have to complain about the service. Every time I call to order food, it's quite the wait, but today I walked in (still on hold) to a bartender just standing there ignoring the phone. She said had no apology when I told her I had been waiting for over 10 minutes, which is rude in itself. This unfortunately is my experience almost every time I come here. As I said previously the food really is delicious especially for the price. Standard but good southern food, I love their fried chicken plate & steaks. The buttered corn is my favorite! Worse service we've ever had! They sat us near the bar area and we waited for 15 min before anyone came over to take our drink order. I had to flag down a waiter to ask who our waitress/waiter was and he said he didn't know and that he would find out. After another 5 minutes passed and he came back and asked if she had come over yet?! He decided to take our drink order, mind you we have now been seating down for over 20 min, other waiters/waitresses walked near us and no one ever came or even acknowledged us. Our waitress finally came and introduced her self after 30 min since we sat down and she said there was a confusion with who's was supposed to help us, really and went on to complain about upper management and how there's no team work. How do you not know which area is yours and how is it that no one saw us seating there with our menus and didn't even bother to ask us if we had been helped. We got our food almost an hour after we ordered our drinks...the restaurant was not busy and there were tables empty around us. This was by far the worse service we have ever gotten and management need to get their act together and train their staff to acknowledge customers. We will never return, no matter how good the food was! They deserve a 0 star read more
