Food is always good when I go. Customer service can be a hit or miss, but food is flavorful and delish. I've never sat inside and ate, always got to go but they do have a few tables in there to dine in.
My friend and I visited this place seeing as he had the taste for a fried pork chop. While I had never been, we decided to give them a shot. Upon entering the restaurant it was very clean. The lady who took our order was more than nice she also gave recommendations. Seeing as we both ordered pork chops, they were cooked to order. I will say the sides are buffet style as well as some of the main courses. The service was quick, and the food was solid. In terms of soul food there are better choices in the city. However, this is still a solid choice. I would like to note that there is a banquet hall attached to which was very nice. Seems like they just recently had a wedding.
This place was a nice surprise. I used to live in the university area and wish this place was here when I was. The location is tucked away between the Bank of America and the Bojangles. The food was great. I honestly was a little worried as the food was seating covered in the counter similar to a buffet style. Yet, it was actually good. I was able to get the meatloaf with collards and green beans. All the sides are prepared without meat so you could have a totally vegetarian meal if you wanted. My wife got the BBQ chicken with green beans and mac&cheese. The BBQ chicken was fine. Yet, the sides were way better. Definitely, recommend it.
We've been waiting for this Soul Central location to open. We stopped in for takeout on a Wednesday evening. My husband went inside to order the food. He said it was pretty nice and clean inside. I had the baked chicken (white meat - breast and wing) with a side of gravy, black-eyed peas, cabbage and corn bread. I enjoyed my food. I liked that it wasn't salty. The cornbread was DELICIOUS!! I wasn't crazy about the side of gravy for the chicken. We would more than likely go back again. They have a good amount of choices on the menu so next time I'll probably try something different. I'd say give it a try if you're in the area.
This spot just recently opened its second location on N. Tryon so I decided to check it out. I usually order online when possible for convenience when grabbing a to go meal and that's what I did here. After placing my order I received a called about 10 minutes later stating that 2 of the items I ordered were not available. Which were wings and wedges I mainly went for the wings so I asked to cancel. For some reason I was not able to have my order cancelled. They suggested I come the next day to get my order. I did just that. This was a big inconvenience it would be so much easier if they were able to update out of stock items on their ordering site. I was able to eventually get my meal the next day and the food was really good. I enjoyed everything the Mac n cheese was flavored just right. The wings were crispy and tasty. The candied sweet potatoes were also good. I'd probably return in the future but just order in person.

I know people can be worn out after a long day, but their employees could say "hello" or "how can I help you?" instead of just staring at me in silence when I walk up to the counter. The facility itself is clean and tidy so that's a big plus.

Was very empty but the food is mainly precooked and ready to order right in front of you, there does seem like a bit of a language barrier with the workers because I don't fully know Spanish and they don't clearly speak much English. When I ordered the meatloaf it was pink inside and so I called and had to come all the way back to the business and also bring the food back in to show was required and the explanation didn't make much sense to why it was pink due to language barrier, the food isn't very seasoned it taste very plain for soul food but the smothered chicken and rice was great
I have been here a couple of times... Food is not disappointing, however all three times I have been there, the service has been slow. They don't seem understaffed per se, but definitely need to have better organization with taking orders and dishing out the food. About 60% of the items on the menu are buffet style so all they have to do is scoop it up and put it in the bag. Shouldn't be slow about that after all... Also their desserts are tremendously overpriced, almost $7 for a cute little dainty piece of cheesecake. It doesn't come from Juniors in Brooklyn, so it certainly isn't worth almost 7 bucks, I can tell ya that much.
I got the flounder combo which to me was a little bit pricey for what I got, It was $16.78 w/ a bottled water. I definitely think you can get a better deal at Nana's but I'll save that for another day... The flounder was chewy, salty, and hard around the edges almost felt like I was eating jerky but the middle part of it was good. The mashed potatoes were dry, obviously because they didn't offer any gravy but they were. It tasted fresh and homemade. The mac & cheese was okay, if anything it tasted like a whole bunch of old bay seasoning, I like old bay but not to the point where I want to feel like I eating spoonfuls of it. The corn bread was good, it was sweet but not overbearing and best of all it wasn't super dry! The sauces you see w/ the fish I added (BBQ & Honey Mustard). The tartar sauce they gave me. Would I go back here again? Eh, probably not - I would prefer to go to Bojangles right next door and get me something similar for half the price.

I placed a large order over the phone with two weeks notice. We ordered the Baked Chicken, Meatloaf, and our sides were collard greens, Mac and cheese, and bread option was corn bread. The general consensus of the food from our team was "it was alright". Speaking from a customer service perspective, it felt disorganized. The food arrived 30 minutes early, which was an issue due to not being set up, not having our truck drivers available for food, as we scheduled runs around the delivery time window... and it was an $80 delivery charge. I would hope for next time we would get better communication. We asked for cornbread and got half dinner rolls and half cornbread. Not many people were happy with the rest of the bread being dinner rolls, as we have plates reserved for people, and I wish the menu mentioned it was "bone in" baked chicken. That is an important aspect as, this was a work place luncheon, we really care about the ease of eating while we work. Collard greens could use some work, Mac and cheese everyone had mixed reviews. Meatloaf everyone seemed to like more than the baked chicken. read more

I always seen this place and never went in. But I had taste for greens. So I went too night. It was more than I expected! Made me feel welcome when I stepped in. And when I got home and seen my food? Wow! And it taste . Will be back. Candied Yams read more

Very quick service and large portions ....usually soul food restaurants have a wait time. They fry to order but sides are ready. This is a good lunch spot I always have enough time to eat and feel rushed. They put everything in a to go box so when you ready...just pack up and go. read more

Poor seasoned , soul food restaurant with no Dressing (Stuffing) I'm super disappointed and will not be returning.. Did you guys changes, recipe or Chefs cause omg this food have no SOUL IM BEYOND DISAPPOINTED WITH EVERY BITE !! read more

My husband and I had gone to this place for lunch. We ordered ahead and received the same thing which was fried chicken, Mac and cheese, and yams(side of cornbread). Chicken was salty there was no other seaming but salt. The Mac and cheese was not the best I would rate it a 5.8. The yams was the worst part for my husband because he had found a piece of plastic in the yams!! Overall we are not gonna come back nice people the food just isn't worth the price and wouldn't trust it. read more

I'll start with the positive, the staff was very friendly and quick to complete orders. Sadly, the food went into the trash. I requested fresh Mac and cheese because the one they had out was dried out and burnt on top. I was told they have to finish that pan first even though it was just a corner left. She eventually put out a new pan. The fish was okay, I got fried flounder which was cooked to order and fresh. The pinto beans were dry and salty. Mashed potatoes were dry. Potato wedges weren't cooked all the way through as it was still raw potato. Lastly, the chicken was not cooked all the way through. I told my sister to sit throw it away so she didn't get sick. They were closing 3-4 due to being short staff and I just decided to take the loss financially on the meal And grab food somewhere else for lunch. I will not be returning to either location as both experiences were bad. read more

Apparently this is a new location for this restaurant. The other one is on Central Ave and after reading their reviews, I decided to try this new location near my home and was disappointed. I went about 2pm and they were out of chicken wings, collard greens and rice. Food wasn't horrible but it really should not be labeled as soul food/southern cooking. The fried chicken was seasoned but a little too salty for my liking but the macaroni & cheese was bland and the noodles were way over cooked. The cabbage also lacked seasoning except for black pepper. The cornbread was okay. The prices and portions were reasonable but I'm hesitant about going back to try other items on the menu. read more

I got the everyday lunch deal which was for a fair price. I'll admit my expectations were low, but the food was good and for what I paid I was pleased. Only thing that I would comment on was the sweet tea which tasted old and the place feeling stuffy. Other than that, it was fine. read more
