A friend and I went for lunch at Cheddar Box Too today. The restaurant is small and cute with a few outdoor seats. The food was excellent but it took us a long time to get our order. The waitress finally came up to us and let us know they lost our order. I also ordered hot tea and needed more hot water, but no one ever came over to check on us. I ordered the French toast with a side of sausage. It was so tasty that there were no leftovers. Hopefully, the service was a one off experience. read more

Ate breakfast here this morning and while eating my sandwich I found a PENNY in my sandwich. Luckily I spotted it before getting to that part of my sandwich but my next bite would have brought an unwelcome surprise. As if this wasn't concerning enough on its own, the staffs reaction was rather indifferent to the situation. Our server apologized but no manager or anyone from the kitchen came over to address the situation. This is a major choking hazard and just plain gross. I am pregnant and very cautious about the quality of my food right now and chose this restaurant because I thought I could trust the food I was getting to be sanitary and quality. I get it.... Things happen but when they do your response to the situation matters and this is where Cheddar Box Too failed. Stopped by for an impromptu brunch on a Saturday afternoon and we either lucked out or this is a best kept secret! The staff was super friendly as I walked in and told me they'd be right with me. They cleaned up a table real quick and seated my within 5 minutes I ordered the fried green tomatoes as I waited for the rest of the crew to find parking and join me inside. I ended up ordering the chicken salad sando with a side salad. Friends ordered pancakes and eggs Benedict. The pancakes were delicious, I snuck a couple bites...sadly, didn't get to try the eggs Benedict. They also sell their pancake mix and a few other items in bulk to the public. Today was my first time patronizing Cheddar Box Too! I always thought the only location was the original Cheddar Box, but I was mistaken. I don't know how I missed it, it's right at the entrance into Chenoweth Plaza. From the outside it looks like a very small building, but there is surprisingly a lot of seating inside. We arrived before the lunch rush and were immediately seated and provided menus. Everything looks delicious, but I chose the Spinach Salad with blue cheese crumbles, warm bacon dressing and added grilled chicken. Service was good and they kept our drinks refilled! We both ordered salads and it didn't take long to get our food. The spinach salad was a great portion with lots of spinach! Toppings were generous but didn't overpower the salad. Dressing was on the side, which I love. The grilled chicken was plentiful. It was a great salad and I'd definitely recommend in the future. My friend had the grilled chicken salad, which has a southwest salad dressing that looked good too. It's a little pricy for a salad, I think mine was $18 and some change after adding the chicken, but it was a hearty portion. read more

Had a fantastic lunch today at the Cheddar Box Too. The restaurant is small but bright and service was great! Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and kept our drinks full. I had the Kentuckian Burger. The burger was enormous. The burger was juicy and flavorful, sitting on lettuce, a fried green tomato topped with pepper jelly, caramelized onions, pimento cheese and bacon jam. The flavors meld together in a sweet and savory bite. Give this burger a try, you won't be disappointed. On a side note the burger comes with raw onions we substituted them for the grilled onions. read more

Great little restaurant! The open early (8:00 am) so when you and your baby wake up, you have time to give them a bottle, get in, get seated, and order before they realize they are ravenously hungry. Fun kids menu, see the Mickey pancake pic attached. Jenny served us and was awesome. She gave great recommendations and patiently went through the menu. Per her recommendation, I got the biscuits and gravy! Excellent choice! Soft homemade biscuits with excellent white gravy mixed with Purnell's sausage! I'd strongly recommend. It was so good I forgot to take a picture! Arguably the best biscuits and gravy I've had in a LONG time. Don't shirt change yourself, get the full order! We tried the French toast, it was good. But not world changing. The pancake, well let's just say there was a dad tax for my son. I'd also recommend you collect an excise tax when feeding your little ones. 2.5 out of 5!! Wasn't a 2 but wasn't a 3 either. The cute fruit side was lukewarm. The eggs Benedict were ok, the poached egg were a little under on 1 of 2 eggs. The side of potatoes were only $2, and not bad. Overall it was ok, not bad but not really that great. They have a mural on the wall that looks cool though. Cheddar Box Too was the first to pop up, and we're glad it did! It may be a new favorite for us. Cheddar Box Too was busy (it's kind of small), but it was only a 15-minute wait for two people. My husband got the Kentucky Hot Brown Benedict (poached eggs, sliced turkey and smoked bacon atop an English muffin with our cheddar-mornay sauce and tomatoes), and I got the Southern Benedict (poached eggs, bacon and house made gravy on a biscuit). We were able to slide in to Cheddar Box Too (no wait!) last weekend and indulge-they have an amazing brunch! We each sampled something different but I ordered the stack of pancakes (what's in that syrup??) and scrambled eggs! It was very delicious and I would highly recommend going if you're near that shopping center. The price was great for the quality of food, it was $9 and I was stuffed afterwards! They are served with a maple butter syrup. The omelets are delicious. Great sausage patties and consistent biscuits. They always have a soup of the day and daily special. Sandwiches and salads are well crafted. Cocktails can be ordered but aren't visibly prominent. The footprint is small so expect a wait at peak times. Limited outdoor seating is available in warmer weather. The staff is wonderful and the service very accommodating. Don't get confused between the cedar box cafe in middletown (also great). the cheddar box take out (also great and just across the parking lot). Our server Jenny was very nice and attentive/anticipated our needs. It's kinda small/cozy but not at all cramped feeling. It is noticably well spaced. I got the patty melt and my spouse got the turkey melt. You can really tell they have a deli because that turkey was good on it's own. The caramelized onions were not quite jammy but you can tell they were slow cooked because the natural sweetness came through quite nicely. It was a nice contrast to the richness of the buttered sourdough toast and burger patty. I saw a picture of their brussel sprouts and that's why I chose this place and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. Crispy sprouts and a creamy garlic sauce. Had an excellent breakfast this morning was able to get right in at 10:30 and sit down with no wait. Prompt service the chef even brought our food to us from the back had the sausage and gravy bowl with scrambled eggs and home fries. Classic Sausage Gravy on a buttermilk biscuit. So good. Been lots of places in Louisville for biscuits and gravy but this is the first truly classic combination and I will definitely be back for it. I only ordered a half serving so I could try a couple of sides. The breakfast potatoes were done great as was the side of cheesy grits. Again truly classic style unlike most places try to do their own thing and end up hurting the flavors. It's just really nice and relaxing to just have the true flavors. If I wanted to hit them for anything it would be the tea selection. Twinnings isn't very good but they do give you unending amounts of it.......so I give them a pass on that. This is a small, but bustling and very cute brunch spot. All of the food is very good and the prices are reasonable. The service is exceptional. You never have to wait for anything. Even the simple dishes just taste elevated at this restaurant. So far I've had the Belgian waffles, french toast, and omelette. Everyone from Louisville has always RAVED about Cheddar Box Too, so I was really excited to get brunch there this past weekend. The inside decor was very country-cute and had the menu to match. Biscuits, pancakes, grits, eggs, hashbrowns...the works. I ordered scrambled eggs, toast and cheese grits and was not disappointed. The eggs were so fluffy, and they did not skimp on the cheese grits- the cup serving is pretty large. All for about $7, CBT is a pretty decently priced breakfast/lunch place. Our waitress was really great and came around to refill our waters & coffees so our glasses were never near empty. One thing to note is that CBT is a pretty small restaurant space-wise and doesn't have any large tables. We were a group of four, so it was not an issue, but if for larger groups I would suggest calling ahead to make sure they would be able to accommodate your party.
