Do not go here. People here have no experience. Came in to see if they can fix damage on the tire. They took the tire off the wheel, checked and put it back on. I didn't notice until I got back home that they DAMAGED my new wheel. Of course since I didn't check before, nothing they can do. Definitely do not go here, unless you want to end up with damaged wheels. Also, the hole was fixed in another shop and it's completely fine 10,000 miles later. read more

The guys here were very friendly. I had been driving on a "slow-flat" for a couple of weeks and went in to get it repaired. Unfortunately I'd waited too long and done too much damage so needed a new tire. The guys were helpful in finding me a tire that would of similar tread to what I already had on the car, and it would take a day to order. Came back, had it installed within like an hour or so. They've got a somewhat comfy little waiting area to hang out in and sit down and read, watch tv. I'd recommend this place. They seem knowledgable and friendly. read more

Dave from Wheeling Auto Center just fixed my car and all power steering is backup and running as it should. It was a defective power steering pump per Dave and Co. I will return the power steering pump to John of Checkpoint but will not bother asking to be reimbursed though it was still covered under their warranty). We left our car there and to my surprise, Jose called us a few hours later to tell us our car was ready! He went out of his way to make sure our car was finished today. Not Really Worth It There are tons of tire places in my area but I went to "Goodyear" Checkpoint Tire Center because of the Goodyear name. It felt like I was dealing with a used car salesman. We discussed the price we wanted and saw online. He said he has nothing for me. I just took what he had which was $30 more than I wanted to spend. While we are waiting for our tires to get installed I heard Kurt use the line, "we don't make any money on tires here...but the manufacturer sure does" - what the hell. But you sell tires here. Weird. They also said they do not give free alignments - that will be another $100+ dollars. When I buy 4 brand new tires for over $100 each I expect you will also align them. I'm so disappointed in the store and with the Goodyear name. read more

I'm not sure why anything has a warranty on it. Nothing seems to be covered when something happens. The manufacturer always finds ways to make the warranty null and void. Jason calls me while en route to my place. He asks me if I remember telling him his front tire seemed low. He says he checked the pressure and filled the air but now he's worried. He's on the shoulder of I-90 and says he can see the wires coming out of the wheel! He bought the back set in Oct 2011 and the front set in Dec 2011 from a Goodyear in Manitowoc, WI. They balanced all four tires and on one invoice, notes that an alignment is recommended and on another, no mention of it. How are we suppose to know they're necessary if a Professional doesn't inform us of its significance? By not having the wheels aligned, it nullified Kelly Tires / Goodyear's warranty! All of this is unbeknownst to us at the time he calls me, so he has me searching for the nearest Goodyear Tire Center. When I called here, the employee offered me some peace of mind when he said it was okay for Jason to drive up there and they would help him. Jason had to purchase 2 brand new tires and had the front alignment performed. Before he left, we learned how to protect our 40,000 mile warranty: balance and rotate tires every 6,000 miles. Never underinflate or overinflate the tires. Avoid potholes and curbs. read more

My wife's car needed a tire rotation and oil change and I had a coupon for these guys. They were down the street so I called to set something up, they told me to come on in and were able to get everything i needed taken care of in about 30 minutes. They couldn't do the tire rotation due to a bulge in my tire. I should have asked them to point out the bulge as I could not see anything on the tires when I got the car back. I went in to get my brakes flushed, because I was experiencing a spongy brake pedal. I was told I needed all 4 brakes rebuilt (calipers, pads and rotors) and was quoted $1073. I told them I would think about it, so I was charged $30 for a brake inspection, which would be credited if I went ahead with the repair. I thought that was excessively high, so I bought front rotors, brake pads and caliper pins from Advanced (total of around $100) and tackled the project myself. It turns out one of my caliper pins was completely seized in the caliper bracket from rust, which was causing the spongy pedal. The brake pads still had some meat except one of the pads had more wear than the others. Rotors did not have any deep grooves, and the thickness was still within spec, but since I bought new ones, I replaced them. I ended up having another shop remove the seized caliper pin with a torch for $10 instead of buying a rebuilt caliper bracket, and I completed the front brake job (pads and rotors) at home. Guess what? Not only are my brakes no longer spongy, but I have a rock hard brake pedal. I think I just saved myself $900 and am extremely disappointed I was quoted for unnecessary repairs. read more

I work in customer service for a full service car wash; and let me say, this place is incredible! I originally went in for a wheel alignment and tire rotation. New to the area, I yelped a few places and called various centers.. Instantly was greeted by an incredibly friendly guy, on the line of Checkpoint Tire who was informative, patient, and flexible with my schedule! Went and got my car serviced in no time & at a hell of a price. Nice lounge, knowledged staff. A week or two later, I woke with a completely flat tire. Panicked, me and my roommates attempted to change the tire.. ATTEMPTED. I called Checkpoint that night and spoke to John, a calm wonderful man who took care of my problem with ease. I recently needed two tires, wear and tear with a slow leak, and called Checkpoint Tires in Wheeling and talked to Kurt. Unfortunately he did not have the tires I needed, in stock. Sensing my frustration he said he would call around looking for the tires and would get back to me within 20 minutes. (Understand this was last month on the ice, snow, and freezing rain day) He called back stating he found the tires but would take 45 minutes to pick up and return to store. I made the appointment and was in and out in a little over an hour. I appreciate the extra effort Kurt and his staff put in to get my problem resolved quickly and efficiently. CTC's prices are fair for their service. They are within walking distance, so that is always convenient. Unfortunately, they are usually busy, so this is not always my number one place to go for repairs. Routine maintenance is a different story because I can plan that out better. I had a flat tire. I went in at about 8:15 am on a Monday. The tire was assessed and repaired and I paid for the service all within one hour. The cost was $28 and some change. They were polite and efficient. They also suggested that I replace my tires because mine were worn down. I appreciated that they suggested new tires, prepared a quote for me, and politely accepted my decline instead of trying to force new tires on me like some sales people. It's not very often you find an honest mechanic. And I can't say anything other than that about the people at this Goodyear and check point. As female bringing my car anywhere can be scary because I am helpless and know nothing about my car. And when my jeep died. I was literally in front of good year and brought it in. I was in an extremely vulnerable position and my car is my lively hood. Kurt called me on Saturday with scary news telling me there was potential I needed an entire engine rebuild. Which would cost me close to 2500 dollars. I was so paniced and stressed. And then Monday came. Kurt called me to tell me they found the problem it was a quicker and easier fix than the other issue. 9 out of 10 mechanics would have just gone ahead and billed me 2500 dollars for work that wasn't required. Not only did he call me with great news. He was honest and told me I didn't need a rebuild. I live in the city and will come here from now on for all mechanical issues with my car. I went to Checkpoint because most of the reviews were good. I even commented on one bad review when I got there because it seemed this guy was unreasonable. Well, let me tell you my story. I had a blowout and because my wheels are large, I couldn't find the tire just anywhere so I ordered the replacement from a website online. I've ordered from this place before with no issues. When I received the tire I inspected it and found no issues. I called checkpoint and asked if they were able to install my 22" tire, and the guy that answered said "we can try". I should've walked away then but I was in a rush to get this done. So I took the tire over with the car and asked them to mount and balance the tire, as well as remove my spare and install the wheel with the new tire in its place. About 20 minutes into it, the mechanic calls me over and says "this tire is no good", and shows me a cut on the inside of the sidewall of the tire. While I can't prove it wasn't there before, I just know I would've seen that, as I mentioned I inspected the tire upon receiving it. They then tell me that they never even tried installing it yet. (The owner or manager, and the mechanic). Interesting, why would you remove my spare, dismount my bad tire, spray the new tire down(they do that to lubricate it to make it easier to slide on the rim/I used to install tires myself), and then decide to inspect the new tire before mounting it? Makes no sense. They also have security cameras, which they never offered to show me or review(btw, I work for a security camera manufacturer). All very suspicious. I know this wasn't done on purpose, but own up to it. Anyway, it's my word against checkpoint. As the customer, I'm screwed. If it was my business, I would've said, I'm not sure we did this but we'll take care of it. Instead they sent me on my way worse off than when I got there. So, you decide if you want to do business with that kind of mentality. We're right and you, the customer, us wrong. I'm not a scammer, or a dead beat. Just a guy who brought my tire to get mounted and balanced, and sent off with a new damaged tire. Thanks guys. read more

Major Scam Artists!!! BEWARE of repairs that are not really needed. Went in for oil change and simple replace of the oil sending unit ($50 part) that I already knew was bad from a previous visit to a different mechanic. Told me it would be $29 to diagnose the problem plus repair and I said sure but i'd have to wait an hour. I agreed and while waiting I overheard a phone conversation with one of the men behind the desk explaining a problem to a customer. He tells the customer they found some problems that the GM certified mechanic this person had their car at previously must have missed and will do the repairs but need to inform them that it will cost $1800 because they have to take the valve covers off.......LOL He quotes $64 in parts and says the removal of the valve covers will be quite an extensive project and the labor is the majority of the service. Alarm bells go off in my head!! I am not a mechanic, however I do know that working on the top of a modern engine can require extra time to remove all of the plastic that hides the engine, hell they'd even have to disconnect some things but this really is only a few hours of work and for $1800??? Must be the best paid mechanics in the NW suburbs!! So thinking to myself that if I let these people look at my car they'll tell me something outrageous instead of the simple oil sending unit it needs, maybe a new oil pump or some other big ticket item. Instead of waiting I went to the counter and told the man I dealt with that I would bring it back another time because I didn't want to wait....he agreed but then said he'd like to ask a few more questions about my issue with the sending unit and why I thought it was that, what were the symptoms etc. so he could prepare the order for the next day. I explained the issue again. Sending unit (remember a $50 part and easy to replace) sends a signal to your oil gauge and told him about how the unit was failing and messing with the gauge. He looks at me with doubt in his eyes and actually says to me that maybe the instrument cluster is bad. LOL It's $200-$300 for a new cluster plus labor. Then he says to me that if they need to look further for a problem it's $105 per hour......what happened to $29?? I took my keys and never went back. Went to another mechanic and he confirmed I had a failing oil sending unit, $49 plus labor. Haha read more
