I have been to Maday about four times now in the last year with my 2010 Mazda, for brakes, 'weird sounds'.... They've been fairly priced and honest every time. Everyone I've talked to there has been nice and respectful. I was referred there by my boss who has gone to them for years and has had nothing but good things to say about them. Today was the clincher - I parked on the street when dropping off my car because the lot was pretty full. When I talked to Pete on the phone later about my car, he told me the sound I was hearing was an exhaust hanger and he fixed it for me. He also said that my car got a ticket because it was street cleaning day, then he said he wouldn't charge me for the work! I was so surprised, by the ticket but not really because parking in this area is.... complicated (understatement), but also because he felt bad and didn't charge me. Maybe it was because I've been there a bunch of times, probably because it wasn't a huge job, but it's definitely because he's a very decent human being. Thank you Pete. I have been going to Maday Auto repair for 15+ years. They are extremely good with cars and great with customer service. Over the years they have serviced my Camry, Subaru Outback, Subaru Forester, Volvo 940 and Volvo S60 (plus a few minivans long ago). I tend to drive cars for 10+ years before making a change so I give them a lot of business. More than once Peter has advised me to sell my old car because it is not worth fixing any longer, which is high integrity because it is less business for him. Peter and his mechanics are extremely talented and honest. I can't recommend them highly enough. Additionally, Maday is very convenient (100 feet) to the Metra Central Street Station. Maday provides quality workmanship with polite service at rock-bottom prices. This auto repair shop comes with my highest recommendation. My Acura needed a 90,000-mile servicing so I called a few places. The local Acura dealer charges $660, Doc Able's in Evanston wanted $551. Peter at Maday offered an estimate of $300 to $450, depending on how much work I had previously done on the car (fluid flushes, etc). I had not done any special servicing so I expected the bill to land on the high end of the range. I took the car to Maday around 11:30am on a Monday, got it back in the late afternoon. My tab was $390 excluding tax. The work included all recommended action items: cooling system flush, brake fluid flush, rotate tires, tune engine, change fuel filter & air cleaner & spark plugs, top off all fluids. Peter was straight-forward, efficient, accurate with his estimate and trustworthy in his transaction with me. He did not try to sell me additional service that I didn't need, and told me my car would serve me well for the foreseeable future. It has been 1 week since the servicing and my car is doing just fine. Located next to the Metra station on Evanston's Central Street, the repair shop is within easy reach. (Those willing to take a longer walk, about 0.5 miles, can ride the El to Central and walk West past Northwestern's Ryan Field.) read more

Went to Maday to replace the Driver's side window motor on my vehicle since their price was roughly half of the dealership repair price. They completed the work quickly and the window worked again...but not for long. About a year later the same window failed and I brought it to the dealership to see what the issue was. It turns out that Maday had not only used a cheap aftermarket motor (which explains why the driver's side window went up at half the speed it used to) but had cracked the door frame fiberglass panel shoehorning a motor that wasn't meant for my vehicle into it. I'm now paying for the same repair twice. Really shoddy work. Thanks Maday! read more

Peter and his guys are the best. I live nearby and was looking for a reputable mechanic in the neighborhood. Based on Yelp reviews, I decided to try them and have been rewarded time and again. Finding an honest auto mechanic in/near a big city is a shot-in-the-dark, that's why I'm happy to have found Maday. In 2+ years of regular auto maintenance, Peter has never tried to sell me something I didn't need. He's up-front about costs and does a great job. Maday is simply a reliable auto shop. There aren't any bells and whistles because they're in business to fix your car, not entertain you. Don't expect a red carpet and a flat-screen TV in the waiting area, but do expect them to do a great job on your car for a reasonable price. After looking on Yelp to find a good spot to get my oil changed near my place of work, I decided on Maday. While there were only 4 reviews, all of them were 5 star reviews. How could I go wrong? So I called them between 8 and 9 in the morning to find out how much they charged as well as whether or not they would be able to get me in. I informed the guy on the phone I would be coming between noon and 12:30, was on my lunch break and needed to be in and out within a half- hour to 45 minutes. He informed me a full- service oil change would be just under 30 bucks, pretty standard, and said there wouldn't be a problem getting me in and out on my lunch. When I got there, I pulled up behind their garages, each of which had a car in it. No biggie, I thought, it shouldn't take more than 20 minutes to get these other cars out. After sitting there for 15 minutes, during which time one of the mechanics came out to help another customer, looked at me and never said anything, I went inside to see if they would be able to help me. I asked whether they would be able to do it in 15 or 20 minutes, as the wasted time in their parking lot had already eaten a good chunk of my lunch hour. I was told they were on lunch so it would be more like 45 minutes! After I called SPECIFICALLY to find out whether or not they could help me on my break. So, needless to say I left, without an oil change and having wasted my entire lunch break. Bottom line, I won't be going there ever again and recommend you stay away as well. I'm not sure who wrote the 5 star reviews, perhaps family members of the mechanics, but customer service is clearly not important to the guys at Maday. read more

Do yourself a favor and go to this shop if you have any reservations about the integrity auto repair shops-(i.e. Druxlers) This is my third visit to Mayday and I'm convinced these guys are the best in the area (I do a lot of work on my car myself but sometimes need the help of an area shop- and I'm very particular about the honesty of the shop owner). They are very good and above all honest about what should should not be done to your car. Went in for a check eng light and to replace a side mirror I had bought online. After a couple of days I got a call from Peter saying the mirror was on and the check eng was probably a loose hose which he repaired (no charge). Total job cost- $75. First and foremost, I'd like to say that Mayday offers all car repairs underneath the sun at affordable prices. With that being said, I took my car in because I had a minor oil leak. After an honest diagnosis, I was told that I could drive steadily for the next year before anything catastrophic would arise. Once they took my car off of the hydraulic system, they left a series of scratches on one side of my car, which did not make me happy. I politely informed the mechanic of the incident, and they failed to take accountability for their careless mistake. After comparing and contrasting prices for the past two weeks, I knew that Mayday had the lowest estimate. I wanted to confirm my appointment, but they never solidified a time, so I thought it would behoove me to show up as soon as they opened. As soon as I arrived, it took Mayday over 45 minutes to start working on my car, even after making an appointment. After I took my car in for service, they left another series of scratches on the other side of my car! I'm not one to complain, but when you repeat the same careless mistake, I get upset. In retrospect, I would have paid more if I had brought my car into the dealership, but I know that they would handle my car with a lot more care and attention to detail. Upon further observation, I noticed that their operation is very unorganized. They leave cars parked in every direction imaginable, and while I understand that they have deadlines to meet, they often leave cars parked in potentially hazardous areas; which warrants a lot of concern. Unfortunately, I won't be bringing my car in again. I'm really disappointed with their neglect and carelessness. I really hope that this doesn't happen to other people, because that's unacceptable. read more

Mayday really is the best! With full disclosure: I have never had mechanical work done on my car there. However, my front tire had a slow leak over the weekend, by Monday morning it was nearly flat. I called the shop on the way home and the shop owner said they would be closed before my train arrived but that he would leave the air hose out in front for me to use. I was in a serious pinch and Mayday came through in small but very significant way. I don't know many people, let alone an auto shop, that would provide such a kind favor to a non-paying patron. If I should ever have a mechanical problem with my car I would definitely take it to Mayday as they have already earned major trust with that small act of kindness. read more

I thought my catalytic converter waa messed up the way my car was acting. Happened on my way to the FD right down the street, & I thought I wouldn't make it home after shift the next day. Pete looked at it, found a clogged air intake, cleaned it & got my oil changed since it was due. For WAY less than one after market catalytic, I got my car back running like new. Having moved to Evanston over a year ago and in search of a trustworthy mechanic, I tried Maday. My Ford Focus has over 130K miles and it seems like it is constantly in need of repairs. I followed these positive Yelp reviews of Maday, and it did not disappoint! I took my car in to get a new strut last spring, and Peter showed me the old parts and how worn they were.
