This guy seemed nice enough the first few times my mother used him... told her to get carshield.. this last time he didn't call them in advance which is a requirement, instead- he just announced a bill and said she was supposed to REMIND him to call them first. That is NOT a thing. You've recorded NONE of her information in your computer and you somehow don't know the rules of engagement for a service YOU recommended. I don't care at all about the other reviews for this place, how does this guy even tie his shoelaces!!!!??????? Even if he was the greatest mechanic ever, I still recommend he hire someone to manage the customer service aspect of his business. Nobody needs to be put through that in your lobby when you should have handled this ON YOUR END, it shouldn't be the customer's responsibility whatsoever. read more

I had a electrical issue with my car which turned out to be a bad connection with the battery. He could have easily charged me 100$ for running a diagnostic which most dealerships do but instead he fixed the issue free of charge. Not only this, he refused to do an oil change for me as the car didn't need it at the moment and suggested to wait. Welp, I called to get a quote and the man told me just bring it in and hung up. Don't waste your time. I have worked in plenty of shops and that's the first red flag. New customer, VERY satisfied. I'll be honest - I've had a hell of a time finding a good, trustworthy mechanic in Chicago. I've been to tons of garages and mechanics over the years, both small private places and dealerships, and have had problems with, or have been generally dissatisfied by many of them. But this place seems different. I have an Audi A4 quattro that needed a LOT of work. I had to have my timing and serpentine (accessory) belts replaced, and while this was getting done, I opted to finally have some aftermarket parts that I'd bought installed, including a new water pump, and new engine, transmission, and snub mounts. On top of all this, my engine was leaking oil from God-knows-where. This is extremely important work, since if it's done improperly it could significantly shorten the car's lifespan, so I was 100% adamant about having it all done by someone who was very knowledgeable and trustworthy. I called tons of garages, both private and some Audi/VW dealerships, which had been recommended by online auto forums. The quotes for just the labor (since I had the parts already) were predictably high, but I wasn't totally impressed by anyone I spoke with. But then, I was fortunate enough to be recommended North Shore Auto Clinic by a friend. I called and spoke with Gena, the owner, and was impressed. He's an intelligent, friendly, and to-the-point kind of guy who's willing to listen to customers and will give you all the technical details of what's going on, should you be interested, which I very much appreciate. Seriously, it's almost expected that guys like this will be slightly dismissive of the customer's opinions and ideas - it's so rare that an auto mechanic will take the time to listen to a customer's description of what's going on, and will then ask questions about what's been done to the car, before giving his thoughts and plans on what he's going to do. I'm both grateful and impressed. Upon pulling my engine, they noticed my radiator was cracked and leaking (explaining those spots on my driveway...). They were good enough to send me photos of the damaged radiator, and then call and ask what I wanted to do. For $240, they installed a brand new radiator with a lifetime warranty. Into an Audi, a notoriously-overpriced brand. I'm so glad they were the ones to find it, since I'm sure I'd have paid at least three times that much anywhere else. He also found the leak and fixed it for very cheap, only replacing a gasket. Keep in mind, I had no clue where it was coming from. He easily could have told me it was something else entirely and taken me for like $500 without me knowing any better, but he didn't. He also called to let me know that I was mistaken in thinking that I needed new braked and rotors, and told me I had a good amount of life left on my current set, saving me something like $150. As with everything else, he was honest and upfront, and kept me informed every step of the way. I dropped my car off yesterday, and was clear that I was working on a budget with all of this stuff. Gena was up front about how much each individual installation or repair would cost, and not only did his prices undercut even the cheapest of the other quotes I'd received by several hundred dollars, but my final bill was exactly what he said it would be. When's the last time that's happened? It's legitimately the first time in my life that that's happened. He and his crew had all this work done in just over a day, and and my car's driving better than it ever has. Before I picked it up, he went through and checked all my fluid levels, and topped them off as needed. When I arrived, he explained again everything that was done, gave me his thoughts on the car in terms of what it needed and what I ought to keep an eye on, and I was on my way. I was out the door for less than half of what the other shops quoted me at for labor, and I'm confident that everything was done properly and with much attention to detail. Don't let the looks of the building put you off - that would be a huge mistake, as it doesn't at all reflect the quality of work and customer service that this place can boast. I'll check in again after a few hundred miles, but given my experience so far I can readily and very highly recommend North Shore Auto Clinic. read more

Gene has just received new customers for life....or, for as long as we live in Chicago! What a great guy! He completely understands how to fix issues without going over a budget. Yet, he will still go the extra mile (at no extra charge) to let you know what else might be wrong or might need repairing in the future. He is honest, nice, and actually pretty funny too! :) My hubby and I dropped our very old Mercedes SUV for a couple of repairs and it was all fixed up for us the next day! When we went to pick it up, Gene told us that there were a couple of other issues that we should think about having repaired in the near future....and one repair that could wait for years to be fixed. Gene is the best!! I have a old GMC pick up and thought I was having troubles with the compressor. Called Gene and he said I don't think it's your compressor and bring it in. Took my GMC to Gene and in one day he called and said my truck was fixed. I was so surprised and asked what it was and Gene said it was and old spark plug/and wire. My elderly mother couldn't get her 2003 Toyota Camry started. Her car was towed to North Shore Auto Clinic in Evanston. The owner, Gene, inspected the car and told her the only problem was her key was a Valet key, not the regular key with a chip, that's why the car wouldn't start. We located the key with the chip and of course the car started. I appreciated Gene's honesty and told him to go through the car and repair or replace anything needed. He installed four new platinum spark plugs, new air filter, oil and filter change, and new wiper blades all for a very reasonable price. Good, honest mechanics are hard to find. I have used this shop before and have found the prices to be on par with other mechanics until my last visit. I went in for a simple tire repair. Upon vehicle inspection the mechanic who I've known as Alex (not his real name) recommended new wiper blades. I knew they would be more expensive than going to autozone, but I was on my way out of town and thought with all the rain I should just get it done. I was charged $30 for parts (expected) and $60 for labor, for windshield wiper installation. This process takes all of five minutes. I hate price gouging by mechanics and do not intend on using this shop again. read more

Called Gena after my car was inspected at Sherman Chrysler(Vehicle is a 2011 200) for brake pad replacement. Walton quoted $500 plus another $250 to purge the brakes! Purging is not necessary just another dealer rip off! Gena quoted $300 for the complete job with tax and 12,000 or 1 year warranty on the work! Took my car there the next morning for a 8:30am appointment, I left the car and all the work was completed by Noon. Gena has my business now! Great experience ! I brought my car here after another mechanic messed it up. It was fast, honest pricing, great customer service all together. After checking out the car, even tho they were busy,Gene told me it will take up to 4 hours to get it done. The previous place had it for a week and then some. I was told they will call me when it's good to go since I didn't wanna wait around there. Sure enough, they called in less then 3 hours. The car was fixed and never had to address that problem again. I had quite a few bad experiences with mechanics before...either bad work, lots of waiting, or overpricing...or all at once.
