Very helpful, price wasn't more than expected thankfully, quick service and it's nice to have a functioning car again. Great local auto shop! Thanks to Wally and the team read more

Wally is an exemplary mechanic and person. Thoughtful explanation of the work that needs to be done. I have brought several older high mileage cars in over the years and he always does a great job at reasonable pricing. There is a reason why the business is always busy. I know many repeat customers. read more

Wally is a Chicago treasure. He recently fixed the Air Conditioning in my daughter's 2008 Honda by finding a bad relay. Any other repair shop would likely have replaced the compressor. This is not the first time he has found the exact repair solution for older cars, saving us money as a bonus. read more

As always Wally & his crew came to my rescue. My Honda CRV failed emissions... took my car straight to Albany. Wally explained it was the timing chain gave me a price. The car was ready in no time. I took the car the same day back to emissions... the car passed! Thank you This is not the first time he has helped with my car problems and I'm sure it won't be the last read more

I call to drop my college kids car off over Thanksgiving weekend. The car is dead in Chicago but I'm in Michigan Someone was going to be at the a shop on Thanksgiving to accept the car. Now that's service!!!!!! I do not have any skills in car repair. If ever I bring my car to a shop and they would tell me that it needs this and that, I would just say yes to all. I believe that Albany Park Auto Clinic treats you with honesty. They would only change/repair what is needed at a fraction of the cost. Always, a job well done! read more

I've been taking my cars to Wally there for years and they have ALWAYS been fast fare and professional. I would have trouble finding a better place for auto care in Chicago. read more

Wally is the man. He's quippy with the one liners, which keeps with the idea of a salesman who's been at it for a few decades, but he also is so authentic with it all, that it's clear he loves being able to help people- and happens to have found the outlet to do that through mechanic work. My dad is a mechanic in NC, owning a Tire Supply store when I was growing up- and so I may be biased with how much Wally's shop reminds me of my dad's business-- not just through appearance, but through other senses. It really brings me back. And brings me back in a way of remembering how awesome the customers between the two businesses thought the service was. And in Wally's case- continues to be. I highly recommend trusting him with your auto needs. read more

I can't say enough good things about Wally and his crew. He's honest at a reasonable price...unlike some car dealerships. I have an older car, so have been there many times and he's always accommodating and helpful. read more

I was on a road trip from Florida to Chicago and started noticing an odd vibration when accelerating as we were leaving Atlanta. The vibration continued to get worse and we limped my Volvo C70 into Chicago. I called a friend and asked him if he knew an honest mechanic... he gave me the name and number for Wally at Albany Park Auto Clinic. Called him up on Saturday morning and he told me to bring it by to diagnose it. A short time later, he gave me the news that my inner CV joint failed and needed replacement. He was able to locate the part and told me to return first thing Monday morning and plan on picking it up at the end of the day. Got there around 8:30AM and got a call it was completed about 1:30PM The work was done well, the price was very fair and Wally and his team got me back on the road with minimum delay! Thank you for making an otherwise bad situation good! -A read more

Always friendly, fair and reasonably priced.

Even before I had my own car,I have already heard great things about Wally and his shop (Albany Park Auto Clinic). I used to live a few blocks away from the shop. Every time I passed by,my friends would always say that whenever they have car problems, Wally is the man that we can trust. A couple of weeks ago, I had some car trouble. I went to the shop and explained to Wally what's going on. He told me that they will check everything and will give me an update. Following day, I have stopped by the shop and Wally have explained to me everything in detail on what's going on and what they are going to do to fix the problem. Wally is very knowledgeable, very professional, very reliable, highly experienced and trustworthy. Wally is direct and honest. He answered all my questions and addressed all my concerns. They did an outstanding job with my car. I really appreciate it and I'm very satisfied!! I highly recommend Albany Park Auto Clinic and Wally's expertise, experience and advice. More blessings and more success to Wally and Albany Park Auto Clinic!! read more

Wally is great and so helpful. I had a RAV4 that was pretty old but I clung onto it with dear life. A lot of sentimental value that turned into a lot of repairs haha. Wally was super honest with me when it was time to stop sinking all my cash into it. Most mechanics would just keep taking the money knowing it wouldn't matter. I really respect his business ethic, he's also hilarious. I suggest his shop to anyone that will listen. read more

After our old mechanic sold his business and the new owner turned out to be a total jerk, we were on the hunt for a new mechanic. Our neighbor happens to be a mechanic here and suggested we bring our car in. They do a fantastic job! They are quick with their work and their prices are very reasonable. I recommend them to everyone I know. read more

I went somewhere else to check out a squeak in the front end of my car. They quoted me $700. A friend recommended Wally and I got the sway bar and link replaced for less than $200. My husband later joined me in Chicago and one day his car wouldn't start. Wally identified an anomaly in the battery mount design and was able to create a wedge that secured the connection. He only charged a small bit for the time put into identifying why the hell it wouldnt start. He later replaced a leaky pump in my car after I asked him to check it over before a long trip. I knew the pump had some minor issues a few years prior so it was probably time to replace it. Every price was fair and repairs were done same day. Also Wally is a riot! The only bad thing is that when he checked my car, I'm not sure he took my tires off. I think one of my calipers is sticking and one of my pads wore out prematurely a few months later. Not sure if he should have noticed signs, or not. Could have started after the check. read more

Wally, the owner, is great. I have been going to him for several years with different cars. They, though, seem to shy away from 'involved' problems that may take long. overall a great place. read more

I had a visible leak of what appeared to be transmission fluid under my Honda Pilot. I took my car into Wally and the Albany Park Auto Clinic team early on Saturday morning without an appointment and explained the problem to Wally. He asked for me to leave the car and they would take a look. Within a couple of hours, he called back noting the problem was a leak coming from a cooling line hose and took care of fixing it and refilling the lost transmission fluid. All of this was done quickly, expertly and at an extremely reasonable price. Very happy with the service! I had not taken a car to Albany Park Auto Clinic in a few years because we had bought a new one 2018 and had no issues, but we have previously taken our cars there as a neighborhood place and always been extremely satisfied with their service and pricing. read more

Wally is an absolute fantastic owner and has a fabulous mechanic staff!! Never has Wally allowed my family to drive an unsafe vehicle. The Albany Park Auto Clinic team thoroughly inspects your vehicle and communicates efficiently with you what needs to be done. The prices are reasonable and the quality of work is superb!! I would NEVER EVER EVER use a mechanic outside of Wally and his professional team :) **Thanks Wally for all the years of keeping my family safe...Big Hug Always!!** read more

This garage is the best I've found in Chicago and I've been to a number of places. Being the daughter of a former mechanic I know a thing or two about cars. I've had mechanics try to scam me and I've had mechanics do work on my car that was not authorized. I always tried new garages because nobody ever impressed me until Albany Auto. A couple years back a garage told me my engine was not worth saving in my '89 Ford Probe. I was attached to my car for no real logical reason (plus I couldn't afford a new one). My dad rescued my car that time and it was back on the road. The next time something needed repairs I found Wally's from a friend's recommendation. I then kept coming back because Wally was honest and truthful about a lot of issues in my car. He explained things to me and reminded me of the kind of mechanic my dad would trust. The last time I took it to Wally he couldn't find a part for my car and he said if I could find the part he would do the service. My dad found a part on eBay and we had it shipped. I've since retired this car but I strongly recommend this garage for all your auto needs. My dad had talked to Wally a couple times about things in my car and even he says they seem reputable and I should stick with them. I couldn't agree more. read more

Not sure what all the happy fuss is about this place. Due to all the excellent reviews, I decided to get an oil change here and inquire why my brakes were squeaking and making a rattling noise when I came to stop signs and lights. When I walked up to the counter, I was as polite as can be and asked if they can take a look at my brakes. The owner at the counter took forever to acknowledge my presence and look up at me. When he did, he said that they were closing really soon. Ummm, ok, all I asked was to have the car looked at to see what the deal was. Hours later, I get a call informing me my car was "ready", when I didn't even get a call confirming I wanted any repairs done in the first place, but whatever. So I have to pay $25 or so for the oil change, fine, but another $90 to tell me "we tightened some loose parts on your brakes"? I don't think so. A feakin' expensive labor charge to basically not fix anything, and after I didn't consent to the charge in the first place. Guess I'll be looking yet again for another virtuous car repair shop. read more

Wally is the best mechanic out there! Also very honest - how rare is that today?? When I use to live in Albany Park, he was always my first choice. You get a great value with his service. And did I mentioned that he is honest? read more

He was spot on and fixed my squeaky problem but didn't go the extra mile to see that I had two torn CV boots which lead me to another shop for a visit where I then had both CV shafts replaced. So funny because he preached to me on how continual maintenance is lacked by owners which needs to be priority but was reluctant to catch the blatant failure which took me all but two seconds to get on my knees and look under the car. I'd appreciate a shop that took pride in giving you a run down of possible failure to your vehicle so you can know what to expect. So many shops lack in that service center feel but hey I guess I pampered to expect good quality go that extra mile service. They'll get the job done but don't expect anything more. Also I was charged $22 more than what he quoted me, It wasn't even taxes, the quote and final bill were way off when all was added up. Inconsistency does not fly well in my book. read more

We've been taking our car here for years and Wally always gets it done efficiently and reasonably. Recently we brought our car in thinking the brakes were squeaking. Wally checked it out thoroughly and couldn't find anything wrong, even adjusted the tire rotation for us. I asked him how much we owed him for his time, he said, "Meh, nothing. Just bring it to me if the wheels fall off!" Great guy with a good sense of humor! This place is a gem of a neighborhood business. read more

We've been taking two cars to Wally's for almost15 years now. It took us 3 years to give him a try, which we regret. We trust him completely and have never, ever felt that he'd sacrifice doing the right thing in order to make an extra buck. his prices are very reasonable, no - they are incredibly low is what they are! And he's totally a character worth knowing, and they do good work. Not always perfect work, but they totally will stand behind their work and will get it right. read more

Great Place! I had my Van worked on, and I was very pleased with the work, they not only did it fast, from what I can tell thus far, it was done right, and at a good price, very fair pricing, great service and honest, what more can you ask for when it comes to a auto repair shop. Talk to Wally or Mike, they will take car of your car needs, and if they can't they will tell you. Cause I asked about my other cars, and Wally told me he doesn't work on Benz or V.W. Old Bugs. But over all I am a very Happy Customer, and will be bring my van back to them when it is time to do more work. Thank you Albany! read more

Still pissed at him he replaced a heater core in my 1997 mountaineer 9 months later was leaking again went back he said it melted showed it to me I asked why said I don't know asked him if he would replace it and give me a brake on the price he refused so I took it to cool heat on montrose and Francisco and had Scott replace he called me and said the old one melted cause there was no water circulating because it was the original water pump on the truck which they never checked have not been back there in six years and will never go back and I have two new cars and live right around the corner from them he was very rude to me and I spent a lot of money there this is a true story! read more

Wally has been our famiily car guy for YEARS. Im not sure how long, but at least 7! I have been to many mechanics over the years and was so impressed with Albany Park Auto and Wally. When I first arrived I told him the name of my friend who recommended his shop, Wally denied knowing him at first and then told me that my friend was a terrible person. He then cracked a smile and told me I had come to the right place. He fixed my flat and took a look at my front end and told me there were no immediate concerns that I needed to worry about; much to my comfort as I was worried about a small rattle. He also quoted me $800 LESS on a timing belt job that I had been previously quoted. Wally will be my new mechanic! read more

Wally has been fixing my family cars since the 1980's. He's always been fair, honest and what I love about his shop is that it only has to get fixed once. He'll even look at my car at no charge before I get warranty work done on it so I don't get the run around from the dealer. He's awesome! read more

My husband and I have been taking our cars to Wally at Albany Park for over 25 years. Sometimes we buy new and sometimes used but we almost always keep our cars till their next owner is a junkyard. Wally keeps the cars running safely and tells us when to get a problem fixed or when to turn up the radio to get rid of an annoying noise. He's diagnosed all manner of problems and fixed them at what always seems to be a reasonable fee. He tells my husband when the junker he's driving is no longer worth fixing and when it's no longer safe to drive. I was prompted to write this review after the radio in my Subaru Forester stopped working when I had the battery jumped during this sub-zero weather. When the typical solutions didn't work Wally asked to borrow the car manual and reappoint. The next visit he fixed it. He hadn't found the solution in the manual but figured to out anyway. I also got a short talk on how every car now-a-days has its own unique electronic system so what works for one doesn't work for another. A word about Wally's dry and wry sense of humor. It comes with the reasonably priced great neighborhood service. read more

i agree with all of the other comments, Wally is a great mechanic who is honest and tells you the truth. You can feel safe that he won't rip you off and will do a good job on your car. Highly recommend them. This is the only place I'll take my car in the city! read more

Ohh, this hurts to revise downward my review for Wally, but he really messed up. They changed my timing belt, but they got the timing belt off by a tooth and the tension was wrong. It drove and sounded very funny. I took my car back 2 more times after the initial change, but Wally said he couldn't find anything wrong with it. Finally I took it out to the old mechanic friend of mind. He was able to put the timing belt on the correct tooth, but opening it all up to get the tension right would have been too expensive. I moved out of the neighborhood, but nevertheless I don't think I would bring my car back here after that. read more

I had a flat. I went to Albany Park Auto Clinic and they found the leak, told me my options (patch vs. new tire), told me that they couldn't guarantee the patch and why, which made sense, and then fixed it. This place rocks. I felt like they were honest, up front, and presented all my options. What more could you ask for. All businesses should run like this. read more

I always take my broke down beater of a car to Albany Park Auto. They keep my car running in the harsh winter and hot summers. How they have kept it alive for so long and for so cheap, I will never know. They got me through emissions tests and broken side mirrors. Wally is an honest guy--he could have told me I needed expensive transmission work, but he fixed the problem for under $50, even taking time out of his lunch break. Another time that I had a small oil leak, he told me to try thicker motor oil rather than pay for a costly engine repair. It worked. read more
