Having just moved to Chicago this past Summer, I had no idea where to take my vehicle when it started to stall out. I asked friends, but couldn't get a clear, convenient answer. I first sought out service at AutoTech to repair my car after a failed emissions test about 2 years ago. AutoTech came highly rated by the Air Team booklet provided by the Illinois EPA. http://www.epa.state.il.us/air/vim/ Tony, the owner at AutoTech, was extremely helpful in resolving what turned out to be a bad plug that the state inspector failed to recognize during his somnambulant approach to my emissions check. Tony quickly resolved the problem, informed the state that my car was in compliance, and recommended some preventative maintenance for me to contemplate. He was no-nonsense about the preventative work, and did not employ scare tactics or strong sells that I've seen elsewhere. In turn, I have returned to get work done on my two cars several times in the past couple years. Just this week, Tony replaced all four tires on my car, including balancing and realignment, done to my complete satisfaction. He also did an oil change, which I appreciated. Many full-service mechanics refuse oil changes due to the low margins. I appreciated the "one-stop" shop. AWESOME SERVICE! I literally just picked up my car from this place. I brought it in yesterday on an expired plate sticker with next to zero time left on the extension i got out of the DMV. The car had failed the emissions test the first time with a dead sensor, bad air filter and messed up exhaust. Not only are the prices awesome... but the service was fast, thorough, AND he even took my car to get emissions tested a second time. had the pass report sitting under my work order when i came to pick it up. My experience with Auto Tech Service was great. I don't know much about cars, so I had originally taken mine in to the dealer when the Service Engine light came on. They wanted to charge me $150 an hour just for labor and fixing my car there would have totaled about $1700. I found Tony and Auto Tech Service on the Better Business Bureau website, and being the techie I am, was happy to see that they had a pretty nice website (complete with a picture of Tony). Not only is Auto Tech registered with the BBB, but they've got ASE certified mechanics and are approved by the AAA. At the time of this writing, they were charging $70/hour for labor (so already, half of what the dealer wanted). Tony estimated 6 hours of work, and completed the repairs in 5 and a half (the dealer estimated 7 hours). My bill came in at $740 (including tax, which wasn't on the dealer estimate of $1700), so that was a 57% savings for me. I'd agreed to have the oil changed since it had been about 4 months for that, but Tony was nice enough to let me know that the oil was still fresh on the car (guess I haven't been driving as much as I thought), and saved me another $18 right there. read more

Tony is the BEST, people! He's the only mechanic that hasn't talked down to me about my car because I'm "a girl". He has saved me a ton of money in unnecessary repairs. He's honest, which is a rare quality in auto mechanics. The first time I brought my car in, he pointed out repairs that my previous mechanic did wrong, did unnecessarily, and didn't do at all! I was just in there this past weekend, and I'd given him an estimate that Midas gave me when I got an oil change. The estimate totaled over $500. Tony could have said "yep, you need this stuff done", but he didn't. He did only one of the 4 recommended repairs and found one other problem and fixed it. My bill was $150. I know a little bit about cars.....certainly enough to do some simple repairs. But, I have long left the comforts of my own garage and driveway and settled in the city. When I went looking for a place to take my car that wouldn't start - I first looked at the BB website to see who NOT to go to. After seeing Autotech's clean slate - I had my car towed there after talking to Tony. Since that day, I have been back for everything from oil changes to the more serious issues. The last time I was there, was because the bottom of my car hit a major ice drop-off pot-hole in an alley. After the thud, my car just didn't sound right at all. I feared that I jacked up the exhaust system and after taking it in.....I was relieved that Tony told me that I just needed to re-tighten a bolt. Tony's a great communicator, who is good at getting you in and out in a timely fashion. He doesn't over-promise, and he DOES deliver on the promises he makes. Have been a customer at Autotech for at least 6 years now. I have owned a few cars which Tony has taken care of. Tony always gives solid and honest advice, what is best for the long term care of the car along with what will be most affordable. You can trust Tony with your car, and the money you spend here. He will make sure your car is safe to drive and ensure you are not spending extra money you don't have to. I had one used car that was in good shape, but had been flooded, ruining the computer of the car. Tony did the best he could to keep me going in that car, but the flood had really done too much damage. Tony is the best! A few weeks ago our car just died while my husband was about to turn into the intersection of California & Addison, a pretty busy spot. He was able to get it started again after a minute or two, so I told him to drive toward Tony's shop and I'd give him a call. We've brought the car there a few times over the years and he always does a great job and the charges are fair and very reasonable. Tony was very busy that day, but when I asked if there was any possible way he could look at it before the day was over (it was about noon I think) it would be a huge help because my husband was supposed to drive me to the airport the next morning. Tony was able to squeeze us in and had everything fixed by 5:30 that day! I already wasn't thrilled with the idea of flying in the time of Corona so I really didn't want to take public transportation or a Lyft to get to the airport. Over the years I have found a trusted mechanic, advisor and friend that cares not only about the many cars I have brought in for service but my personal safety as well. He is reliable, responsive and EXTREMELY fair when price comparing (which I have done for cars with all sorts of issues from our old trusty Civic to our much bigger Santa Fe). To top it off, service is always fast and comprehensive. I feel well taken care of and safer when I drive away from picking up the car after being serviced. In tight situations I've called him for advice or help, including being stuck on the side of the highway in Friday afternoon traffic, shaking because the brakes had gone out on an old Cadillac I was driving. I have been coming to Auto Tech for years and can't say enough good things about Tony's integrity, fairness, and honest consideration for the customer. He only recommends what is necessary and I can't imagine he's making a fortune on the very modest labor rates he charges. It doesn't look like he's making out with anything on the parts either so I can only guess he loves his work and pleasing the customer more than money -a rarity for any profession, but most notably for a mechanic. For example, one time I had an issue with a noisy muffler and thought I'd need a section replaced. Tony pointed out it was a loose heat shield and that it was not really necessary for the functionality of the vehicle. What did he do? He spent about 20 minutes removing the excess metal and, just for giggles, adjusted the engine to increase pickup. Then he took me on a test drive to demonstrate the noise free improvements. And what did it cost? Absolutely nothing. Tony let me go with a handshake and got in return something much more valuable - my absolute trust and permanent business. I have since moved to the far Northwest suburbs (about 30 miles away) yet I'm going to continue making special trips to Chicago for the caliber of service alone. He's really that good. I can't say enough praise for Tony, he's really the honest old fashioned mechanic of our parents time. I went to him to check out my A/C problem, and while no A/C work is cheap by any means, he definitely came out to be much cheaper if I were to go anywhere else in the area. After being told on the phone that there's a $80 diagnostics fee (standard industry fee), I brought the car in having a pretty good idea what the problem was already. Since I did my research and knew the general problem with the A/C, I went ahead and purchased the parts on my own. Tony replaced all the parts, cleaned/flushed the entire A/C system, and recharged it also looking for leaks. All this was done in a matter of 2 days, without any hiccups at all. This place is also located on Broadway and Foster. I would usually take my car here for minor services like an oil change ect, HOWEVER my car was stalling and I was recommended to get a new power steering fluid pump. I agreed with the manager, as I trusted them, paid $450.00 for the repair and services. My car was great for the first couple of weeks, then went back to the stalling. I returned to Auto Tech and told them that the problem wasn't fixed. They told me that they didn't have me in their computer system and that they couldn't do anything with my car without me paying the FULL $450 again. HA! I don't have fool written on my forehead. I kept calling back and told them about the manger that helped me, but it just so happen that that PARTICULAR manger was on temporary leave and couldn't be contacted. I will NEVER EVER in my life go back to this place again. If you need major repairs make sure you go some place that you know you can trust. THIS IS THE PLACE TO TAKE YOUR CAR!! I brought my 2000 Honda Civic to Auto Tech 5-6 months ago after it was making an awful noise. A friend of mine had referred me to Tony. I can't remember exactly what ended up being wrong with my car, but what I do remember was how assured I felt with Tony's assessment and quality of work. I brought my car to a different auto repair facility a few months prior to when Tony looked at my car, and while they did some work on it which ended up being quite pricey, they didn't fix the problem that ended up causing me to see Tony which obviously had been there for some time! I have since brought my car back to Tony a couple of times.This morning I went in because I had hit a pole in a parking garage causing me not to be able to open my passenger side door all the way. Also, one my back light was out. Tony took a look at the door and asked, "You just want to be able to open the door, right?" I nodded a big, "Yes!" (You see, Tony understands where I am coming from financially. He gets that I don't want to drop $500 on body-work to fix my door.) When Tony assesses my car, he tells me what is absolutely necessary to be done and what can wait. So given my response, he took one of his tools, popped out the dent and rubbed out the green paint from the pole. Done! Next, he put a new light bulb in my back light. Finally, he reminded me we should check the oil and seeing that it was low, he put in a quart of oil. 15 minutes and $20 later, everything was taken care of and I was relieved! (Originally, when Tony finished up, he said, "Merry Christmas" and made a gesture as if to say, "It's on the house... you don't owe me anything!")
