This manager at this location is the worst. He is so unprofessional and treats families like crap. I do not recommend this place. They are a disaster and when they don't know where to deliver your food, they treat you like crap and when you try to place an order over $60 they still treat you like crap do not go here. read more

Hate to say this - we live in East Concord and they're one of the few places that deliver - but if you're REALLY hungry, you should consider somewhere else. The wait was estimated between an hour and an hour and ten minutes at an hour twenty five, tries to reach them (I ordered online and pretipped the max 18%). Had TREMENDOUS difficulty getting somebody on the phone!!!! Even though the app said they had already delivered the pizza (and now was saying they were back to making it) I was told, it's actually on the way still. Finally got here between 25 and 35 minutes later than their estimated time (which was horribly long) and "enjoyed" my cold pizza. Tried to call - couldn't reach them. read more

They don't deserve a star. Someone from work ordered pizza to share and it was undercooked and tasted like soap. Made me violently ill. I'm also getting sick of the bimonthly flyers sent to my home by them. Most pizza places in the area only do it once every other month. Instead using the money to send out the constant influx of advertising that's the same month to month use the money to improve your product. read more

I ordered a Greek Salad with chicken. What I got was an disgrace to any salad standards. Putting an entire jar of black olives on a salad was mind blowing to me, and it's not even the right kind of olive for a Greek salad. The chicken was very dry and the cucumbers were bad. read more

Worst pizza I have ever had. The place is not clean and the employees handling money spent some time looking for hand sanitizer before they gave up and handed me my food without washing their hands. I live right down the road from this pizza place and have ordered well over 20 times but today was by far my worst experience. We put our order and it was delivered with multiple items missing. I called back and spoke with some rude women on the phone that would not even give me her name. I asked her if she could credit my card for the items that were missing she rudely replied no maybe I should shop elsewhere add hung up the phone. Ordered a steak and cheese with pepper and onions online. Was met with dried out steak with peppers... no cheese and no onions. Called to inquire and was told I ordered it that way. Worst customer service ever! Ordered a small cheese pizza for delivery. The girl who answered the phone was less than friendly. 50 minutes later I called to check on the order, I live 3 minutes away, and the manager says he doesn't see an order for me. Then he starts asking the girl I ordered with and I hear her copping an attitude that she isn't delivery, she don't know. The manager tries asking someone else, seems she took my order and obviously never filled it. They offered to make it now & would be another 35-45 minutes. No offer to take money off or speed the pizza that anywhere else would be ready in 15 minutes. I canceled & will never order from there again. First time ordering from this place very disappointed with our pick order and the service! We order a spinach salad and that is pretty much all I received the flier said it came with crouton not even that was send with my order. I also asked for extras and nothing was added to the order. When I called to complain all they said was that I wasn't charged for the extra topping. So I pretty much paid $6.99 for spinach which I could of purchased a a bag at the grocery store for a lot cheaper. The restaurant appears on Grubhub but does not accept orders from Grubhub. So Grubhub takes your money and an hour and a half of your life and when you call the restaurant to figure it out, you get a salty kid on the phone telling you "I recommend dominos!" and then hanging up. There's a lot of weird reviews out there so I'd thought I'd clear the air. For one, I'd like to just say, my order came in a reasonable amount of time. As for the food, excellent. The only reason I don't give 5 stars instead of 4, was because the chicken that they use as a topping is sub par. However,, I ordered half chicken and half pepperoni garlic and that part was absolutely the 5 stars of the capital of NH pizza delivery pizza's of all time. If you are drinking a few beers and you want a pizza to go with it, you can't top Checkmate. Also for all the people saying it took 45 minutes plus for the delivery, I got news for you, that's completely normal. If you want the quintessential delivery pizza, order checkmate. read more

so, staying at a hotel in Concord, NH and i wanted a pizza.... problem is, it's 8.30pm and most places close at 9pm. this place has some bad recent reviews (Aug 2022), but i ordered because i didn't have much choice for delivery. i took advantage of an online delivery coupon that wasn't as cheap as a Domino's - but maybe checkmate would be better?.... it was. 2x one-topping pizza and a 2-liter for $22 after tax... not bad. but was the pizza good? it wasn't the best I've ever had, but it wasn't school cafeteria pizza either. the pepp pizza was a little salty, but the sauce and crust evened it out a bit. the other with buff mozz was ok, but the mozz was applied very sparingly. oh well. the crust was the same on both - soft and doughy, definitely cooked through but maybe could have spent another 45-seconds in the oven. maybe it will make great morning pizza! food arrived EARLY! and hot! with friendly service! again, i was worried after reading recent reviews, but i actually had a good experience. give it a chance. read more

I'm not very partial to their pizza, but tonight they helped me out in a jam. Spending way too much time in the library can fry one's mind. The guy behind the counter was really nice and dealt with me in my dazed state. Thanks, man. What makes Checkmate even more special to me now is the fact that they are open until 11 p.m. on a Tuesday night, when everything else has closed. I've been skipping their pizza and going straight for the calzones. The dough they use is a bit bready for my taste where they seal 'er up, but otherwise tasty, with well distributed pieces of pepperoni. No, not mounds of pepperoni with each bite, but nicely parsed out amongst the innards, ensuring you won't get bored, or sick of, all that pepperoni deliciousness. read more

We've ordered take-out many times from this place, they have great food. I would have given a 5-star review but tonight however was a very unpleasant experience. I personally called the take-out order at 6:10 and was quoted a 45 min. expected delivery time which would estimate the delivery at 6:50. At 7:10 I called Checkmate to inquire about our order, they apologized and set an expectation of another 10 mins. When the order did not arrive at 7:20 a second phone call was made to Checkmate and after being on hold for 10 min I hung up. Again, at 7:35 I called back and again, I was put on hold for 10 min. until someone returned to my call and I asked to speak to the manager. Luke the manager, who was not once briefed on my situation, took our call and did honor a full refund and we ultimately had a new order placed and delivered as our first order never arrived or it was cancelled, we're not exactly sure. It is currently 8:25 and our new order arrived fresh, hot, and delicious. We're not sure where the breakdown occurred tonight but they rectified the situation and the food was perfect as usual. The pizza is tasty so I give that 4 stars but you should probably pick it up. We order almost every week because my husband likes their meat lovers pizza. Most weeks it takes at least an hour to have a large delivered. We always heat up the oven a half hour before it's expected because it is warm at best. Today it took an hour and 50 minutes to get a large pizza. Granted we live 3.5 miles from checkmate but it was cold so it had been made early enough. Checkmate pizza is slightly below mediocre in my opinion. Service is usually average at best, and the food is nothing to write home about. The pizza tastes like it should be cooked longer and is seriously lacking in flavor. No place to eat in, they just do takeout and delivery, but the place itself is messy and uninviting. It's cheap though, and it certainly qualifies as decent drinking food. It will get you by in a pinch, or late night when nothing else is open. My usual here is a 22" pie (their "Large") and a free (yes free) Medium Pizza - just tell them "you have a coupon", which they never ask for when they deliver!They are usually pretty quick with deliveries too. So, my co-workers and I ordered lunch from here. Based on pretty good past experiences. Boy, were we disappointed! First of all, we picked it up and came back to work and two meals were missing! We had to call them (and they knew- they didn't try to reach us). We asked if they could deliver the forgotten items- which arrived about 45 minutes later. A few of us ordered salads, chef and grilled chicken. They were clearly old, from the previous day or longer. Dry chicken, wilted lettuce, sad tomato and like two crotons. Sad to say, we will never order again. Mainly because they knew what they were giving us, they knew these were old salads and they knew what was left behind and did not try to contact us. Got mail in the box saying "Try our delivery and here some coupons" so I said what the hell. Ordered and they said 45 minutes. 45 minutes later they called to double check my address. I told them my address on main street and they said another 20. 20 minutes later get a call saying they are in concord (i live in penacook) and i told them that. 20 more minutes later the driver calls asking for help with directions. Driver was super nice and pizza besides being a little cold from the driving was actually very good. Just 3 stars because I prefer not waiting almost a hour and a half for a pizza. read more

OK. The food here is decent. But twice over the past couple of years, I had an issue (once getting the wrong pizza and once taking 90 minutes to arrive although I ordered from 1/3 of a mile away!!!). Horrible customer service!!! They promised me a credit for the former (that never came through .... when I sent a follow up email, I was simply ignored.) I was lied to about the latter experience. No apology. No attempt to make it right. And, they were just recently fined for not following COVID safety protocols. These people don't care if you live or die, let alone giving good customer service. I'm sorry to feel so burnt because, otherwise, the food is pretty good. I'll miss that. read more

Sorry Checkmate, you've lost our business. Unfortunately my co-workers and I placed a very large order, almost $150. Upon closer review our expected total was less than we were charged. We called to speak with the manager about our total and was told that their prices were raised two days ago and were not reflected on our menu. So we jumped online. The online menu had the same prices listed as our hard copy. Upon delivery even the very nice delivery man spoke with the manager about the charge on our behalf. The manager stated "Either pay the difference or send the food back". At this point we wanted our food. It's late, we are busy and hungry nurses and there are limited delivery options at 10:30 at night. To top things off, our order was not correct and entire orders were missing. A sandwich was ordered and delivered nearly two hours later. The label on that sandwich was 09:30pm and received at 11:30pm after Checkmate was notified. We bought three subs and fries to go. The subs were fine, bread was soft but they were nothing to write home about. The meat was on the drier side, it needed more mayo to balance that out. It wasn't bad, but I'm still on the hunt to find our new favorite pizza/sub place. read more

What kind of establishment increases their prices without informing customers nor updating the prices online? Then when questioned about why there is such a discrepancy in the total amount owed, replies with "either pay the total or we take the food back" said by a MANAGER. Seriously?
