Great dining experience here. The ambiance is wacky and fun. I love the unique cocktails and that you can get them in a wide range of sizes, including enormous. Our pizzas were tasty. My only complaint was that when we ordered garlic knots as an appetizer, there were only four of them on a large plate. It would have been helpful to demarcate that on the menu, because I feel like the normal assumption is that you'll get six or eight garlic knots when you order them at other restaurants. I think people commenting on the decline of Pappy's Pizza are the old school local customers who have been going there year after year and they want quality and consistency from their favorite Greek pizza dive. I can now see why their complaints are founded, read on.... I would go to Pappy's for the unique flavor, the sauce, the crust, the whole pie was unique to Manchester and delicious to boot. I've been going for years without compromising quality. BUT NOT ANYMORE, SOMETHING BAD HAPPENED TO PAPPY'S I've been around long enough to know new owners tend to be in it for the money, they wanna recoup their investment, stay on top of rising cost and all the other pitfalls of small business ownership. I get it, but really? I'd rather be served a smaller portion than the huge hubcap POS that was slid across the counter disguised as pizza. Inch by inch, substitution after substitution, slowly their pizza has become gas station fare. It tasted like pizza from some sloppy college town dive that pushed out, quantity over quality to drunk frat boys any given Saturday night. I decided to revisit Pappy's for the first time in several years after hearing consistently negative feedback from friends and colleagues. I wanted to see for myself whether those criticisms were warranted. Overall, the experience was positive. The customer service was excellent, and the food was good, though slightly on the expensive side--$18 for a footlong steak and cheese sub. While there were some differences compared to my previous visits, the changes were not significant. It appears that much of the criticism may stem from resistance to change rather than a decline in quality. What a wonderful pizza place that has been in buisness for over 40 years! I got to talk to the owner who has worked at Pappy's since he was a kid, building pizza boxes. He had now taken over and renovated the restaurant, but has kept the old fashioned charm. The pizza was really yummy, the crust, and sauce recipes have never changed, and made in-house, since it opened decades ago. The steak tip steak bomb sandwich is to die for! Made in-house and so tender, it makes my mouth water, wanting another right now. Service was wonderful and personal. You don't see that often anymore. You can sit outside on the patio, even on rainy days like today. They have big umbrellas and with the light rain it was a perfect spot. Definitely a goto spot for us now! read more

Pizza to go for dinner this time. A good call by my husband. The service was quick - it was ready at the promised time and a friendly, smiling associate gave a sincere thank-you. Sounds simple, but often forgotten these days. The ingredients were noticeably fresh, especially the sauce. This was as far as the worst pizza I ever tasted, 1 hour later was the wait I ordered two large pies- 1 large cheese and 1 large pepperoni , with a Cesar salad, Immediately looking at the pizzas it looked reheated, it was dry pizza sauce and cheese was cold slightly warm, it wasn't cheesey or hot, My salad wasn't cold didn't have the crisp in fresh It was warm. Pappy's has been under new management for quite a while now. My family used to get takeout from there all the time. Since their re-opening, we've given them three tries, and sadly it's just not good. I recently moved to Manchester, so I thought I'd try Pappy's as it's nearby. The first time I ordered a Gyro sandwich. I paid extra to get the 12 inch, instead of the 9 inch. When I got home I saw that I had a 9 inch Gyro. The second time I ordered a 14 inch sausage pizza. I placed the pizza box on the back seat and drove home. When I got home and opened the box, I couldn't believe the mess. The cheese was very thick and runny, like a thick soup. About a third of the cheese/topping had slid off the pie. I have ordered pizza many times over the decades, but I have never seen a pizza like this. It was like taking a bite of a big piece of thick, half-melted cheese. Terrible. Obviously, Pappy's Pizza has untrained employees, with little oversight. They have lost me as a customer. Next, I will try their competition, Pizza 911. read more

Nothing unusual in the restaurant industry but may don't do it front of house when you just reopened. With new ownership comes a new look. Nice renovations but at what costs? Seems to have loss previous family atmosphere that kept this place charging along for 30+ years, always a standard of comfort at decent prices. Now for a 9 inch steak and cheese on an untoasted bun and fries, it's going to run you up $20- not relative cost of living to a place like Manchester. Food still had signature taste but there are better/healthier options for $20 or less. A bit sad and disappointing. We've been to Pappy's a number of times -- it would be more often if we lived closer -- and have very much enjoyed their apps, sandwiches, and dinners. Today we decided to try the pizza... and we were very pleased with it! Honestly, in fact, one of the best we've had in a long, long time! We opted for the "deluxe" (number 1) in the 20 in. size. Second time we have gone to Pappy's and both times have been less than stellar. The first time we ordered, we were told to pick up in twenty minutes. My husband went to pick up and they didn't even have our order. He had to wait an additional 20 minutes while they fixed their mistake. I figured it was just a busy night. Decided to give them another chance. The second time we ordered we got two subs and a fry. Nothing crazy. My husband comes home without the fries. Had to call and let them know their mistake again and had to get refunded for the fries. Two mistakes on two different occasions. We won't be back. We were passing thru on the way to airport headed home to Arizona and looked on my typically trusted Yelp app for a place to eat lunch. Pappys did not come up. We started at the south end of town driving up Elm street. Nothing looked appealing until we reached the end and saw the sign, Pappy's Pizza and Subs. We are glad we made the stop. Food and service was great! We had a pizza with pepperoni, recotta, with hot honey drizzle and crispy buffalo wings. All tasted amazing. I also had a couple sangrias which were quite tasty. Like it had been left behind, sitting under a dim warming light for days. The other menu items, we suspect, were not crafted in-house but rather appeared to be store-bought, placed in the freezer, and reheated when ordered, such as the chicken parm sub. To make the already bad experience worse, our server's attire looked more like she belonged serving at Hooters, and her language that was saltier than the pizza, was not in line with the expected decorum of a family dining setting. In addition, the presence of techno music disrupted the ambiance we had anticipated for a leisurely afternoon lunch, instead imparting the atmosphere of a nightclub. In sum, our visit did not align with the standard of the dining experience we had in mind, and improvements in various aspects of the experience are undoubtedly in order.
