This is a new restaurant that launched in Soho at the beginning of the year. Every time I pass by it, I've been tempted to pay them a visit but for some reason, I never have, until one time a few friends wanted to get drinks there.
Walking in the dark bar/restaurant, I really did not feel like they put much time or effort into the décor, there wasn't anything special. However, the drink menu did impress. They had all these funny names for their cocktails, from "101 Taipei" or "I love tai mei" or "Drunken bubble tea", all around $120-$150 per drink - in my opinion quite pricey for that setting. We ordered a few drinks and chatted with the owner for a little while. As our drinks arrived, out came our cameras! They drinks were all so cute and very nicely presented. One had a mochi skewer on the side, one had a cigar-looking cinnamon stick, and another came in a heart-shaped flute.
That's when my friend decided to host her birthday party there. The owner was extremely accommodating and agreed to everything we asked, which made our experience extra special.
I came back with a couple friends for dinner and the owner recognized us and gave us free drinks! We ordered a bunch of tapas, not knowing what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised with a few of the dishes, including the chicken waffle, beef tacos (that one is my favorite) and a few other cute looking dishes. We ended up ordering way too much food, overall impressed with the quality of the dishes. I didn't enjoy the dish called "ping pong" so much. The menu really made it sounds delicious, but when it came (albeit the lovely presentation), the yam balls tasted quite bland and were dry. Finally we ordered desserts, we ordered a taro cheesecake. Again impressed by the presentation but a tiny bit disappointed with the quality of the dessert, it just didn't hit the spot.
Overall, I love the concept, the drinks and staff there, I would just suggest for them to make a couple changes on the dishes. read more
