She served another person and me all at the same time, without me noticing any wait time at all - Mimi is just that Quick. And she is so nice. I watched and listened to how Mimi interacted with the other customers and how the customers responded to her. There is real community spirit at Money Mart in downtown Oakland. That day I had sold a car, needed a new pink slip for it, and needed to update the registration on my work vehicle. Everything was great and worth every penny, which is about $25-50 beyond the DMV fees. Then I had a problem with the car I sold because it was in an accident. I needed to prove to my insurance carrier that I sold the car, but I had misplaced all of the paperwork from my first visit. So I went back hoping to get help. I told the person behind the protective glass what happened, thinking I had gotten a paper from them showing that I did not own the car anymore. I didn't know that they don't even process that part of the sale. Now mind you, I did not demand anything or ask them why they didn't do something. I just said that I was unfamiliar with the terms and what should I do with the form she gave me to fill out. I had never sold a car before. This person said to me, "Ma'am, that's why I asked you if you needed [insert more terms I don't understand]!" And I said, "I was thinking that was the paper I got with the blue stamp." That person says, "We don't issue forms with a blue stamp" all while glaring at me. Oh my. I wanted to cry. I broke up with the DMV just to get into a worse business relationship with this place. I would've happily given them twice their fees because I don't like the clients at the DMV and you have to be around those menaces for hours every time you go there. I would rather deal with the DMV now than go back to this place. I am appalled at how I was treated, especially when the man who I dealt with on the phone was so professional and had answers to everything I asked about what I needed to get done. I even told my friends on social media what a great experience I had the first time. I have definitely retracted that statement. What a shame. I really, really wanted to like this place.

The check was meant to cover urgent funeral expenses. I was fully prepared to pay their steep $135 fee just to access the fundsbut they still refused to cash it. The back office gave excuse after excuse: that the bank was closed, the issuer was out of business, the check might be fraudulent, etc. I calmly and respectfully disproved every single claim, providing screenshots and official sourcesyet I was still turned away. Because of their refusal, I missed the final deadline and had to endure major late penalty fees. I truly believe my race and appearance played a part in how I was treated. This was humiliating, financially harmful, and completely unnecessary. Order Express should be ashamed.

There are multiple tellers, thankfully only a few people in line, and overall they're out of there in 10 to 15 minutes. The neighborhood is definitely not the best. Given that it's in East Oakland, if you're not familiar with the area, it wouldn't be surprising if you were fearful or concerned about getting into a bad situation outside of the business. But for Oakland natives, we're right at home. Among the most important things to take note of if you have to go to this location, is that the parking spaces were very packed. Literally, almost no parking whatsoever available due to customers going to other businesses nearby. I highly recommend that you lock your car, and pay attention to those around you. Lastly, and this shouldn't be a surprise, but make sure that when you receive your cash, that you have it put away safely with that being a backpack, purse, wallet, etc. Since I have no complaints about the service that I witnessed, and my friend was also pleased with his encounter here, this location gets a 3/5.

So obvious when an employee is trying to cover their butt or deflect accountability for THEIR…read moremistake, I got a money order on 3/2/2026 it is now 6/30/2026 and a certain employee(i think her name is Lucha) decides to void the money order for whatever reason after it was purchased & i had left the store (good thing i keep all receipts).It was used to pay rent and the bank that collects payment for rent did not honor it because it was determined altered or fake and once an investigation was done by the company that issues these money orders(Western Union) & it was determined that California Check Cashing had voided the money order and they should be the one who should either issue a new one or reimburse me but CCC is now saying they need to do an investigation in order to do so which doesn't make sense since it was determined the wrongdoing is an in house on their end issue, so sad when the customer is the one who has to suffer because of the negligence of an employee.Not sure why this is so difficult to resolve when i have done absolutely nothing wrong except purchase a money order from this establishment expecting it to be one that did not come with complications to cash and if the manager or owner reads these reviews i would really like to know why this simple transaction is taking this long...4 months is a bit ridiculous!
