I had a frustrating experience with this company and would not move with them again.
When setting up the move, I made it very clear in talking to their office that this was going to be a full move and that we would need the house packed up. I told them how many bedrooms we had, got a quote that seemed fair, and felt that all was right with the world.
The first hint that things would be more complicated came when we received an email a few days before the big day, specifying some of the ways in which the move was going to be more expensive than what the quote suggested. While some of these were pretty common sense - for example that we'd be charged for materials - others seemed a bit bizarre - for example the provision that the movers would charge double time for all of the time that they spent driving. But ok, I figured maybe it just slipped their mind to mention those things when giving the quote. And anyway at this point it was too late to change companies.
When the guys showed up, however, the plot thickened further, as it was clear that they were not expecting the full move at all. They told us we'd need to call the company and request an extra truck and extra mover - with extra expenses of course - and the first half hour of the move was basically taken up with that. I have to say the guys after that were just fine and did a very competent job, which is why I'm giving two stars instead of one. But the frustrations and miscommunications were adding up.
Fast forward to five days after the move. We've unpacked our boxes and are just starting to feel like we can start living and stop moving our stuff around. Then I get a call from the office telling me that they forgot to charge us an extra $200 for the extra truck. The price we had already paid, I should say, was about double what the initial quote had led me to project. I flatly told them that we are not pay this, and I'm still waiting to hear back from the manager about whether they're going to press this issue.
I think the movers are just fine at this company, but there are some serious communication problems between the office and the consumer, and the office and the movers. I don't know if it's dishonesty, incompetence, or maybe just a fluke, but it made an already stressful process that much more stressful. read more
