This is the second time we used Cheap Charlie's to take care of trees. This time, we had to cut down a huge 30 year old tree in the front yard. It was damaging the sidewalk and starting to lose large branches with even minor winds. The tree was down and the stump was shredded within an hour and a half. The crew was professional and we watched them work in awe. They were taking huge branches and just tossing them aside. We made sure there were no neighbors parked too close so they were able to work rather freely. We did have an issue with the estimate. They gave us a 9-4 window. He stayed home so that he could meet with them and ask advice and options. Nobody showed up and our calls were unanswered. The next morning, someone showed up and left an estimate in the door. A little later, another person came with a vastly different estimate. They honored the lower quote and did a great job. I was happy with their service despite the issues with the estimate. read more

DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. spilled oil on our roof never returned our calls. Change company name snd had no insurance.

this is now the third time I have used Cheap Charlies for tree service. On this occasion they were hired to do some major trimming and pruning of tow large trees on my daughter's newly purchased property......Once again, the process was seamless , from estimate to making appointment to showing up withing the time window provided the day before. Despite all of the negative ratings, I have now used this company three times with each time being a good experience......Don't forget to TIP the workers...... read more

This company destroyed our brand new driveway with a trail of gas leaking from their equipment and stopped returning our calls. DO NOT USE.

Cheap Charlie's removed two trees from my property, but in the process spilled oil over my new driveway. The company never resolved the issue and has stopped contacting me. I would not recommend them. read more

We had used this company before and were very pleased, so we called them again. We were told they would come to give an estimate sometime between 8 am to 3 pm but would text us 30 minutes before, since I explained that I was at an appointment close by but hubby would be home. I got the text saying he would be at the house in 5 minutes, & arrived in 7 minutes. Took me 13 minutes to get back, & even though my husband explained what we needed, but that it would be better to talk to me, the fellow refused to wait. He didn't even pay attention to what hubby was telling him. I find it incredible that the customer has to wait for potentially 7 hours, but this company can't even wait 13 minutes, & do not give a proper arrival time. Won't be using cheap charlie's now or ever again. I'm even more peeved since I have recommended them several times to acquaintances. read more

Absolutely the best job done!! I was the 1st appointment. I was told before noon and they....all 8 of them, were here at 7:30am. My dead tree was down and the debris was gone by 8:30. Because of the rain the stump was removed the following day. But I am extremely happy with this business. I would definitely use Charlies Tree Service again and recommend them to my family and friends. Thank you Charlie and team!! read more

Called for a quote and Charlie showed within a few hours. Gave me a verbal quote then sent an email with all the details. I reviewed and accepted the quote as requested to do. I called several times to have the tress removed and no one ever called back. Going on 3 weeks. Poor customer service, gave a quote then changed his mind. I would never recommend this company!! And to think, I was told this is the guy to go with. What a joke. read more

When Cheep Charlie took my tree down on May 16, 2016, they were professional and took down a 50 foot tree in 55 minutes. I would recommend them to everyone. However, they were scheduled to come my house to trim a tree on April 2nd, but never showed or called. Then again on April 5th they were another no show, no call. I cannot recommend them anymore. Do not hire this company unless you love aggravation! I can't comment on the quality of their work, as they twice never showed up for scheduled appointments. Not only do they not show up, they don't even have the decency to contact you. First time they told me the next day that they couldn't call me back, after numerous attempts on my part to contact them, because they could not make outgoing phone calls on their office phones. I guess they never heard of cell phones or e mail. Second time after numerous attempts to contact them again, they did not show up again, with no attempt to contact us either that day, or the next. Worst customer service ever! Hence the name "CHEAP" Only gave 1 star because I had to. read more

I called cheap Charlie for an estimate to remove a tree, since I have always used him in the past with no problem. He came the next day and gave me an estimate. I accepted. I was sent an email with a proposal and accepted. That was over 1 month ago. I have tried to call numerous times and at times left messages, with no response. I don' t know what happened, but I can no longer recommend this company. read more

They took down a tree or trees at the house across the street & covered my newly washed car with saw dust & dirt! Spoke to gentleman who seemed to be in charge. He said he would make sure they would blow it off before they left. Needless to say they left without blowing it off. We called & a young lady stated she would send someone back to take care of it which as expected they also did not do! I would never use a company who would be so inconsiderate to my neighbors! read more

Cheap Charlie's never showed up for my scheduled appointment (signed contract). I called mid day to re-comfirm that they were coming and was told yes, they would be there. At 4:30pm I received a call stating that they got too busy with pick-up jobs and would not be able to come do the work at my house. I tried to call to re-schedule and received no call back. After speaking to others in my neighborhood, they had the same experience. No consideration for my time whatsoever. I lost a day's pay to be home for this scheduled work. I would never recommend. read more

Let me begin by agreeing with some other reviewers who have said that the owner is basically rude, arrogant and unprofessional. Make sure you read the negative reviews as they tell all to stay away. I asked for an estimate to have my tree "trimmed" as it was getting too large all around. When they came to do the work, i asked the foreman what they were going to do and he said that they were going to elevate and prune and when i asked him in lay terms he explained that they were going to completely remove approximately the lower third of the tree to the trunk and then clean up any dead branches from the remaining tree. I told him no, that is not what i wanted and he told me that I , me , I should have asked for "shaping" as if am supposed to know there inside lingo. They left without doing anything, After many calls, Charlie showed up and i told him what happened and what i wanted. He knew I did not want what his crew was originally going to do. I described what i wanted and he assured me NOT to worry, he would take care of it. The crew came back and the foreman told me he had spoken to Charlie directly and he started setting up his workers. I went inside and when I came out a few minutes later, they had already started removing large tree limbs from high up the tree. They butchered and hacked my tree and basically did what I said I did not want by completely removing the lower third of my tree. HORRIBLE I called Charlie and like I said... Charlie is rude, arrogant and unprofessional... Do yourself a favor, read the negative reviews, do not take a chance, stay away. read more

Cheap Charlie's Tree - Tree Services Near Me - East Islip, New York

Unreliable, never showed for estimate after multiple calls.

The owners and staff were knowledgeable, neat and courteous. They used skill and care while trimming large trees in a narrow space behind my pool and shaping shrubbery. The property was left spotless. The job was done quickly. I will use this service again. read more

I have used Cheap Charlie's twice in the past, once at my mother's house and once to remove a very large tree at my house. I found the service was adequate and the price while not exactly cheap was the best I could get when getting estimates from one or two other companies. So, when I decided to have a couple of smaller trees removed in my back yard it was a no-brainer to call Cheap Charlie's. They sent someone out in a timely fashion to give me an estimate and after reviewing the estimate I called to set up an appointment for yesterday, Friday May 3rd. The office called me on Thursday to confirm my appointment and said the crew would arrive after 12PM. I took a day off work to be home for these guys and I patiently waited....and waited.....and waited. At about 3:10 I called the office to see what was up only to get an answering machine that said the office closed at 3. While that did raise a red flag, I still was expecting them to show up because I assumed that the crews in the field probably still worked even after the office closed. I left a message on the voice mail....also called back a half hour later and left a second message. They never showed up, not even a phone call...and I had my phone by my side the whole day, the same phone they called me on the day before to confirm my appointment. So, I took a day off work and waited around a whole day wasting my time for these people to not show up. There were plenty of other things I could have done with a day off, including doing my elderly mother's food shopping and visiting her...instead I lost of day or work that I can never get back and wasted my time waiting for these fools that never showed up. read more

I made an appointment to get my tree examined to see how much it would be to prune, trim some low hanging branches and remove some very large branches that were hanging over the house. When the estimator came back and I got an estimate for $600 I jumped on it. The last time I had an estimate from another company it was $900 just to remove the branches hanging over the house. They came yesterday and I couldn't be happier, the work was quick, efficient and they did whatever I needed them to do. There is one branch left that I should've had removed but that's on me. Anyways great work, nice guys very happy with the service. read more

Cheap Charlie's Tree - Looks much better! - Tree Services Near Me - East Islip, New York

We contracted and paid Cheap Charlie's for tree work. They did not complete the job as per the contract and when I asked Martin, the guy managing the work, he wouldn't do it. I paid and did not receive the completed work. I called them 4 times over the next few weeks and they did not respond. They are of equal price to another company but they had sooner availability. I wish I had used the other company. I DO NOT recommend them. They took the money and ran. read more

Although I'm not the person who hired this tree service I have to comment on what a great job they just finished. Within an hour they removed huge tree from our neighbor's yard. They cleand up so well that you would never have known that they were there. And except for a little ground cover nothing else was damaged. Super efficient! The guys were very accommodating when asked if we could get some firewood. They gave us and a couple of our neighbors plenty. As fast as you can imagine I've have now a huge supply of firewood that would easily take me through a couple of winters. They even helped me move the wood to where I was going to stack it and delivered a huge stack to the neighbor who contracted them. If ever I were in need of a tree service I would most definitely give them a call. read more

To be honest, after reading all of the bad reviews on here, I was hesitant to call, but we were assured by the people who suggested Cheap Charlie's to us that this is a great company. I called to schedule an estimate on 7/29 and someone showed up the next day and gave me an estimate of $1500 to remove a very large, dying tree. I also had a smaller tree and stumps around my yard that needed to be removed and they included that for only $100 more. I called the next day to confirm an appointment for the removal, which was going to be 2 weeks later. That was fine with me, I understand how busy it can get. The day before removal, they called to confirm the removal and gave me a window (12pm - 3pm). Cheap Charlie's arrived promptly at 12pm with an entire crew and all of the equipment. I could not believe how fast they worked! They took down the tree in about 1 hour and spent another 45 minutes cleaning up. They really did a wonderful job, especially for the price! read more

PAY ATTENTION TO THE OTHER NEGATIVE REVIEWS.....Not even one star but no other option. Made an appointment. Waited at home for 4 hours. They never showed. Called and left 3 messages to reschedule. Finally received a call back from the RUDEST receptionist who was asking me repetitive questions and didn't understand the simple concept of taking a message and just added to my my frustration. Happy to use Aronica - the most reliable and professional tree people who have been treating my property for years and also offer tree removal and know how to get and RETAIN clients and speak to me with polish and respect. I run 2 businesses. If a staff member told a caller to use another company because she couldn't perform simple customer service and triage a call - that person would be let go. I am assuming she is the relative of an owner. Cheap is a good word for the quality i received. Too bad. I have a lot of trees to remove. read more

I needed to trim back a large oak in a tight space. Cheap Charlie's came in with their 75' boom truck, and did the job that several other tree services weren't willing or able to do. I've made 3 separate appointments with this company all of which they never showed up, callled or advised they would be late or not able to make it to my house for an estimate. Every time I called, there was confusion over who, what, when, where and why. All I got were excuses as to why the estimator never showed and was promised 3 times, he would DEFINITELY be there at a certain time and naturally, never showed up. No call, nothing. I left a voice mail in the am asking them to call me back one last time to give it one last shot ...... Nothing. No reply. Don't even bother with this horribly run company... They are a waste. If this is how they manage a business exchange, I can't imagine how bad the actual work would have been. May be a blessing in disguise ! read more

I called Cheap Charlies to have tree branches trimmed over my driveway in February. I asked them if they would have the proper equipment to get high up, they assured me that they have a bucket truck to reach the high branches. When the guys showed up, they they wanted to only cut a few branches immediately over the driveway, i called Jimmy and asked them to do more. I gave them another $200 to trim a few additional branches. They did not show up with the proper equipment and were not able to get high up above the driveway. After about 6 calls, I spoke with Jimmy again. He promised that he would send the crew back to correct the job, but it is August now and no one has come. I was originally disappointed in the service that I received, however after a few calls, messages and time... we were able to come to an agreement. Cheap Charlie's came back and trimmed the rest of the branches and did exactly what I wanted done. read more
