I was nervous about my first Brazilian but after going to Glow, not only do I know that I will keep getting them, I know I will only be going to Glow for this service. Unfortunately, I can't remember the aesthetician's name now (it was several weeks ago that I went, and I'm due back shortly) but her manner and kindness put me at ease about the whole waxing process. There's something to be said for a woman who can put another at ease about putting hot wax on her bits and then ripping the hair off using said hot wax - but this woman was not only able to calm my fears but also kept me chatting in a way that helped distract me enough to look forward to the end result without stressing too much over the process. I ended up getting a "modified" Brazilian and was charged accordingly - not full price since I didn't get a full Brazilian. I appreciated that despite the fact that she put in so much work and time (30 minutes!! - I'm used to going in, getting the skin, hair, and wax ripped off and being off the waxing table in under 20!), she only charged me for a partial Brazilian. Many salons wouldn't modify the price according to the customer's needs, only their own. Waxing is very Machiavellian - the end has to justify the means because otherwise it can make for walking funny, in grown hairs, and embarrassment, not to mention pain. The Nufree wax is gentle enough, although I had a surprising reaction to it, I think that was more me than the product (since I've had it used on me before with no problems). The aesthetician also provided me with a small sample of lotion to help with in-grown hairs and any irritation that would arise. I was incredibly impressed with her thoroughness as well as her kindness. I'm looking forward to going back to Glow, despite the masochism of getting waxed!

Esther is my aesthetician of 4 1/2 years. I first started seeing her when she worked at the Adam…read morePink Salon, but she started her own business and I happily followed. Through all my moves all over the East Valley, I would faithfully make the trek across town to see Esther. Fortunately, I eventually landed in Ahwatukee, so now Esther is just a 5-minute drive from my house. She offers waxing, customized facials, microdermabrasion peels, eye lash extensions, makeup application, etc all at very reasonable rates. I usually pay $35 to have my whole face waxed, tip included. Brazilians cost $45, eyebrows alone cost $13, and a 60-minute facial costs $65. She gives a customer discount card, which she initials at every visit. After the 5th identical service, you get your service 50% off. Cash or check only. If you call and leave a message and she's with a client, she's always very prompt to return your phone call and arrange your appointment. I usually can get in within a day or two of when I call. She currently works Tues-Saturday. Plus, she works until 7pm Tues-Thurs and she also works Saturdays, so it's easy to make an appointment that fits around your work or school schedule. I can't speak to her other services, but I can highly recommend Esther for waxing. She has a very relaxing set-up, with a comfortable bed and a cute little studio. I've actually been so tired and so relaxed that I've come THIS close to falling asleep while laying there and having her wax my brows, lips and chin. I don't know if this speaks for Esther's awesome hair-removing skills, or just highlights the fact that I've been having this done for WAY too long now that I've become sort of immune to the pain. I really like that she uses Jane Iredale (a mineral makeup without binders or fillers) to cover up the post-waxing redness. I'm super uber fair with super sensitive skin - so I'm the kind of girl that turns FLAMING RED after a wax. Worse yet, I stay red for a good hour afterwards. Well, after a wax with Esther I can actually *gasp* go shopping across the street at Fry's or Safeway IN PUBLIC without having to hide beneath a garishly large floppy hat and oversized sunglasses. In fact, I used to go get waxed during my lunch break, and return to work without anyone being the wiser! Another bonus is that you can do a little one-stop beauty servicing while you're in the building. The building where Esther rents her studio (Signature Salon Studios) also houses a bunch of other hair stylists, makeup artists, beauty salons, and kitschy boutiques.
