We decided to try this place for lunch! It is an order at the counter Mexican restaurant with a service style similar to chipotle or qdoba. Their menu was much bigger than either of the chains and the prices were similar. I was impressed with the number of toppings the had. For example I added black olives to my burrito which aren't typically available at the chains. I got a beef burrito which was way too big to finish! The girl making it was super generous with fillings! They have a kids menu, so my niece and nephew were able to get what they wanted for a bargain price. The only thing that I would critique is that I felt the chips were subpar. We didn't have an issue with parking as we visited on Sunday at lunch time, but I could see parking being a challenge so near to campus during the week and/or evening. Was not a big fan of this spot. Came around 1:30pm with my family and stood out front for about 10min before anyone came out to help us. When my kids were ordering for their kids meals it felt like they were being slick with the guacamole and queso upselling. I ordered the nachos and the only thing supreme was the level of stinginess with the cheese. Perhaps I came at a bad time, but I definitely left unsatisfied. read more

I've been eating here for years now, they used to have huge servings but it seems they have cut down recently. Especially one worker, he only works at night but every time I go I get half the servings versus if I go during the day. He's always got some kind of attitude which I've turned around sometimes if I see him working. If it wasn't for that one worker, I'd have no complaints and would actually tip the workers. read more

Employee are overly rude. Asked a question about the salsa and worker sneered at me and then skipped me in line and wouldn't let me order anything. Worker then got angry when I asked if I could order and physically rolled his eyes so me and my group could see. Worker still didn't let me order what I wanted but ended up letting my boyfriend order for me. Overall very poor service and workers tend to up-charge at night. This is the greatest secret in Muncie. Their traditional Mexican food is incredible. Their hours alone works really good for Ball State students, either to feed a late night of study or to recover from a late night of study. Basic menu burritos, bowls, tacos soft or hard. They build your item from your selections! Their toppings and dips are delicious! They put franchises with like-menus, way down the list of flavor, tradition. It's a wonderful lil shop downtown Ball State. It is open and welcoming to everyone. read more

Like a Chipotle but each ingredient tastes fresher and the burritos are much larger. Regular size is $8 and huge. Probably at least two lbs. You choose your ingredients like a Chipotle. I got a large cup of horchata for I believe around $4 IIRC. It was tasty like cinnamon and somewhat floral w vanilla notes but pretty thin-bodied and the cup wasn't filled up all the way I suspect because I asked for no ice. Every time I eat at this place, I'm a little disappointed. Something is always wrong. None of the people working in there communicate or ask questions. I don't know if it's because they don't speak English or if they are just in a hurry. I wanted a taco and without asking they put it on a flour tortilla. Who assembles a street taco on flour? It was all chewy and tasted like sadness. I got a burrito for my son and he wanted guacamole and queso so I asked them to put them on the burrito. Then I find out at the register that it's two extra dollars per ingredient. At no point do they say this while I'm putting the burrito together and it's nowhere on the menu. I get having to pay for premium items but not being told they cost extra ahead of time is a bit of a bummer. I want to have the option to say no if I want, not to be railroaded at the register into having to pay four extra dollars or throwing away the burrito and starting over. Let me start by saying I am a DIE HARD chipotle fan, so it's really hard for me to eat anything similar without thinking it's subpar. I've lived a couple blocks from here for 3 years now and it took me this long to finally become enlightened. This is a college town, college kids get drunk, college kids go to chavas when the bars close. There's just something about a chavas burrito bowl with chips at 4 am that changes you. Don't get me wrong, chipotle is still my favorite, but I've come to accept that they are simply ~different~. Chavas is definitely more authentic and fresh, but believe it or not it's kinda pricey. My chipotle order is always under $8 and chavas is about $12. Anyways, I'm glad I finally let my guard down and let chavas into my heart. read more

Very fast service and good food. This is a delicious fast-casual restaurant that is open most nights until 3 AM. I have gone multiple times and have never been disappointed. They have a rewards system that texts you coupons for food at least once or twice a week. The food is fresh and always really good, I especially like the pork and shredded beef. The queso is typical queso that can be expected at any Mexican restaurant. The have 4 different types of salsa, which seem to be a big hit. The workers are very friendly and efficient. This is my go-to mexican restaurant if I'm wanting quick and decent food. read more

I've lived near this place for more than a year, and I'm just now giving it a visit. Chava's doesn't stand out visually from the outside, but after today's visit, I can admit their food is exceptional. Like, if they had margaritas and alcohol, this place would be a literal Mexican restaurant. Instead, it's a simple quick service place with seating (think Qdoba or Chipotle, but fresher). I had a pastor aka pork burrito with retried beans, Spanish rice, and cheese, sour cream, and cilantro. Again, the food was great. Generous portions. Prices are reasonable. Great lunch option. They also have quesadillas, nachos, tacos, etc. Beverages include coke products, horchata, and lemonade. Probably my new favorite place given the quality and convenience of location. read more

The food is great but the employee that always works at the beginning of the line late at night is extremely rude. He had always seemed to be in a bad mood before but recently seems to be having more issues with anger. It's to the point that he will begin cursing about you in Spanish for just about no reason while you are still right there moving down the line. It's really strange behavior. Chavas is there when I'm stressed. Chavas is there when I celebrate. Chavas is there when I'm drunk and need a good cry into a FAT burrito bowl. If I didn't have Chavas I wouldn't have made it this far in my college education. 10/10 would recommend. I called to place a carry out order and the lady was very rude and asked if I was calling the wrong place. I didn't appreciate the laughter when asking to order a well known mexican dish at a mexican grill on top of having the dish explained to me in a childlike manner. Now don't get be wrong the food here is absolutely delicious, there is new college student working there who is extremely disrespectful. Why say you are open until 3am, but then say you're closing at 12 over the phone. I got there last night at around 10:45pm. At 11 they stopped taking orders and refused service to people. The worker Arturo went into the middle of the restaurant at 11:13pm and said "I will say this politely, but you all need to get the f**k out."
