What's…read morenot to love about seeing a band at a smaller venue, in a smaller(but hip) city, and for less money than Nashville?! I jumped at the opportunity to do this! As others may have previously mentioned, this theater is quirky. We had recently seen a show at the Lyric in Birmingham and hoped it would be similar. It was but wasn't. The layout of the building was very odd, men's room on 4th floor and ladies on the 2nd. On the 3rd floor, they have their VIP lounge. Oddly, the only thing designating it as such was a small sign on an easel. Having not been here and not being from Chattanooga, I was leering in and trying to determine what exactly WAS this lounge. There was a lady sitting in a chair just inside and when she saw me, she muttered "Fourth Floor". Somewhat taken aback, I informed me that it was my first time there and I was trying to figure out what the space was. It was only then, that she said "Oh, it's a VIP lounge for contributors and donors to the preservation fund." Thanks! Another quirk about this is that they seemingly have the OG pew/seats! While this is AMAZING and historic, there were a number of patrons that looked very uncomfortable. Also, in reference to the Lyric, I was bummed that this didn't have opera boxes. Oh well. We'll definitely be back if artists we like play here!

The bathrooms are close by. The acoustics in theater during the play were spot on. The lighting as well. I want to see a friend of mine act in one of the Play is held in this theater back November 2017. Of course the play was fantastic. And I look forward to returning to this playhouse in the future when I am in north Georgia. The variety of place that they bring for the general public is outstanding. There is always something for everyone throughout the year. The location is a little bit off the Compass. It isn't difficult to find with a GPS but without one someone make it turned around just a wee bit.

Beware of Chattanooga Dance Theatre - Completely Disappointing Experience…read more I cannot recommend Chattanooga Dance Theatre. My 7-year-old daughter was kicked out of the Nutcracker performance at Christmas simply because she missed a few rehearsals. While we understood the importance of attendance, these were due to real family and health emergencies, which we communicated well in advance. The studio showed zero flexibility or compassion. What makes this even more upsetting is that they specifically emailed us encouraging her to join the performance, which now feels like a ploy to collect money. We spent over $360 on tickets, paid for hotel rooms for family and friends, invested in costumes and additional classes, and even paid the mandatory performance participation fee--all for a 7-year-old child who simply couldn't attend a few rehearsals. Yet Chattanooga Dance Theater refused to refund a single penny. This rigid, profit-driven approach is unacceptable for children. On top of that, the facilities are unclean, and there are serious safety concerns. Classrooms and the waiting area are overcrowded with children, making it stressful and potentially unsafe for young dancers. Families, please be cautious. Chattanooga Dance Theatre may promise a magical experience, but in reality, they prioritize profit and strict rules over the well-being of children. This has been an extremely upsetting experience for our family, and I hope others think twice before trusting them with their children.

My daughter eagerly looks forward to each class and returns home brimming with pride, eager to share the new dance moves she's mastered. The studio is impeccably managed, with clear communication, and the nurturing environment has greatly enhanced her confidence and deepened her love for dance. The end-of-year recital was a beautiful showcase of the children's growth and progress. I am excited to see the new skills my daughter will develop throughout the year. I wholeheartedly recommend Chattanooga Dance Theatre to any parent seeking a supportive and enriching experience for their child.

I took my son out during the first half of the show because he got loud. They waited until after intermission when the play had restarted to make a scene and ask us to leave. Could have said something for the 30 mins of the first half or during the 15 minutes of intermission but waited until the play started back to call us out and say that my son was being a distraction. This museum and performance hall features a beautiful array of Chattanooga Black history as well as showcasing the wealth of Black musical talent that has hailed from this wonderful city, including Bessie Smith herself! Each exhibit features tangible artifacts alongside highly informative digital displays with written information, as well as short documentaries playing in select areas. Mr. Elijah was our tour guide and he held a wealth of knowledge about the origination of the area, beginning with the Indigenous peoples that lived in the area, progressing through time. The galleries he led us through featured Chattanooga's greatest African-American movers and shakers, prominent entrepreneurs, important local historical events, and much more! I highly recommend anyone who loves Black history and loves Chattanooga to pay a visit to this powerful and inspiring establishment of historical and cultural celebration!
