What a crowd.. Came here around 4pm and having seen the reviews to the branch in Haymarket, I decided to pop by and try it out. But managed to get the side seat quickly. Decided to try out their thai milk tea and pad thai. The milk tea had quite a lot of condensed milk in it and less ice which made it thick and over sweet. Maybe the different type of condense milk has also an impact towards the beverage. Would prefer less condensed milk. For chicken pad thai, I asked the server to not include the dried shrimps. Order came around 10 minutes later. The taste is great and the noodles are cooked in perfection. Some of the chicken was still cold.. The price for Pad Thai was great :) I noticed quite a few table ordered the coconut ice cream for desserts and crushed ice flavored drinks to accompany their meals. Looked like they enjoyed what they have ordered. Besides that, to accommodate to new customers, the servers cleaned the tables quickly so that a new customer can use upon walking in. No wifi, just great food! I read someone else's review and it mentioned this place offers free wifi (something you might need if you're not from the area). The place offers no such thing. What they do have is many delicious dishes at very reasonable prices. My green chicken curry was perfection, and I regreted not leaving any room for their sticky rice with mango. I passed by this hold in the wall Thai restaurant many times walking home from the ferry, never considering it to have descent food, but I was definitely wrong. This is worth popping into for some delicious, affordable Thai food. Chat Thai is always packed which is a good sign of the good food they are creating. I prefer it as a take-away restaurant, and always order about 15 minutes before my ferry arrives so the food is ready to be picked up. My recommendation is to order the Pad Thai & Pad See-ewe. For dessert the coconut ice cream is delicious, with sweet sticky rice topped with candied palm seeds and roasted peanuts. I would also recommend the sticky rice and mango, fresh cut mango with sticky rice. read more

Disappointing that I specifically asked for no onion or garlic in my beef with oyster sauce and vegetables, came home and opened the container to reveal almost two whole onions. They even confirmed my request when ordering and it was written on the receipt. Anyway, it was pretty good value. $28 for two dishes and rice. The massaman beef curry is nice although serving size a little small. 20 min wait for takeaway on a Sunday night isn't that bad. Looked way too busy to eat there, and way too noisy. read more

Unfortunately this place isn't what it used to be. Back in the day Chat Thai was just a hole in the wall where you could pick up a takeaway. You could rock up, select your ingredients and have your food within a few minutes. However due to its popularity it got busier and busier and eventually expanded to include a seating area, but it lost it's authenticity. The prices went up, the food became far less consistent (although i do still very much like it) and the queues got longer. I'd definitely still recommend giving this place a go if you're looking for budget Thai, just try and avoid peak times. read more

I've passed this place many times going to and from the ferry and always wanted to give it a whirl! But having a mum who doesn't enjoy adventurous food it's proved difficult. However today I found myself making my own way over to Sydney and decided to give it a go. With only 30 mins until my ferry departed I was in a rush however the food was delivered to me within 10 mins of arriving so they definitely have 'fast food' on lock. I had the roast duck with noodles and bok choy and for a fast lunch it was delicious! I've never been one for lunching solo but being surrounded by people coming and going at the ferry terminal made the whole experience a lot less awkward for myself. I reckon the food was awesome and a great price - $14. The duck wasn't the best I've had but I'm happy to sacrifice a bit of quality for the speedy service and convenience . read more

Love this place! Thai food is everywhere but Chat Thai invented fancy Thai. I mean yeah normally Thai food is what you get for work lunch under $10, but somehow these guys manage to upmarket it and make it different while still authentic. Wow! We finally found a place to get a non-fast food meal for under $50! And bonus, Chat Thai has some great food too! The restaurant is very trendy for a ferry terminal. We started with the Chicken Satay and also a couple of spring rolls. The peanut sauce on the chicken was excellent. I got my old staple, the Pad Thai. It was tasty and very light vs. the sometimes heavy almost creamy noodles that some places have. We were full as the portion sizes were plentiful. I can't say that this restaurant is better than other places in Manly but I will say that you won't be disappointed by giving Chat a try. read more

Had the som dtum thai (papaya salad) with soft shell crab. It was the worst dish I ever had. The crab was so salty, it was like pouring a bottle of salt in your mouth. We also asked for 1 hot pepper in the dish, but it tasted like there were 10. The service was really slow as well. We ordered two glasses of wine but that didn't come until we got our entrees and only after I had reminded them. Maybe we had an off night but we were not impressed. Panang curry was delicious with jasmine rice. Pork belly with chili paste (#36 in menu) was good. Sticky rice was disappointing though. I've had it in Thailand and US and this one tasted off. I've been frequenting Chat Thai Manly for years! It used to be more basic and takeaway focused with simple menu and cheap prices! The service was never great and the wait a bit delayed but sooo cheap and delicious so I kept going. Chat Thai has now been renovated into a more stylish restaurant. I have been a number of times since, excited about the new menu and quality of the food which is mostly delicious. However the service does not match the food ! After numerous experiences of atrocious customer service, I will not be going back! I frequently have to wait over 40 mins for one or two dishes, even at 3pm in the afternoon with only one other table. The staff consistently get the order wrong and never apologise when we mention it, instead get annoyed and hurriedly rush away. There is no customer loyalty or friendliness despite the fact I was going there up to 3 times a week. The prices have also gone way up so we can longer justify eating here. I would go somewhere else!
