Surprising little place with seating basically in a hallway. They serve right up until lunch closing time. Then they put on white table cloths to fancy up for dinner as soon as lunchtime is done. The pad Thai, panang curry, and green curry were all very good. Lots of protein, and all white meat chicken when one orders chicken. They also offer beef, prawns, tofu. Plenty of veggies mixed into the dishes. Very good value for the money. It's tucked away but they have signs pointing in the right direction. For lunch you order at the counter then sit and they deliver the food to your table. You take your own carafe of water with glasses. The desserts looked great but unfortunately they're only available for dinner--they have various sticky rice options, including one with fresh mango. read more

We were looking for something cheap and tasty to eat in Manly. After checking out a few spots, we settled on Manly Thai Gourmet. It's a hole in wall, hidden in a small alleyway that also houses an Italian restaurant, Manly Pizza & Wine. We dropped in on a Thursday evening (around 7:30pm) and the place was busy. There's lots of seating (with even a private room area). This place is BYOB ($2.50/person for corkage fee). The menu is simple; chef's specials, entrees, soups, curries, stir fries and rice noodle salads. There's also a few daily specials and desserts. - 2x Steamed jasmine rice (#31) ($3.00 AUD/person) - Miang kom (#9) ($3.00 AUD) - prawn, roasted coconut, lime, ginger and peanuts. A nice refreshing bite but small. - Curry puff chicken (#11) ($2.00 AUD) - potato and vegetable filling with a side of sweet chili sauce. It came out crispy and hot. It's a small, one biter. - Green curry with beef (#16) ($14.90 AUD) - spicy curry with coconut milk, beans, broccoli and sweet Thai basil. We asked for our dishes to be medium spicy; our waiter was really skeptical to give us this. I'm not sure why. Maybe because the rest of the clientele was Caucasian? Anyways, he obliged in the end. Sadly, while the curry had a good spice level, the sauce was watery and underwhelming in flavour. The beef also didn't taste fresh and was a bit over cooked. We've had better. - Pad ki mao "drunken" noodles (#26) ($13.90 AUD) - thick flat noodles with chicken, chili, basil and light oyster & soya sauce. This had a great wok hei and our favourite dish of the night. Really well executed. Decent Thai but there's so many to choose from in the city. With much consideration I give this review with fear of a reprimand from locals including my friends because this surely has to be one of the Northern Beaches best kept secrets. Well hidden down the Arcade between The Brighton Hotel (with the longest refurbishment known in history) and The Steyne Hotel (Manly institution) sits Manly Thai Gourmet. The food here can not be described as ordinary in anyway including taste, execution and design. Having only been here twice with friends and after a week of illness in my little family I am in the mood for chicken and without thinking I consider Pad Thai. My friend recommends one of the Chef's Special being the banana flower salad. Reading the ingredients from the menu it defines the meal as edible banana flower chopped finely and seasoned with an exotic blend of spices topped with tender chicken and drizzled with coconut cream. When it comes to the table Im entralled at this creation that has arrived before me. Long purple elegant leaves curl towards the sky with the the chicken, noodle and coconut cream sitting in the middle like its the bouquet of a flower. It looks so beautiful I carefully spoon out the meal with my fork and the flavour is... well its indescribable. I try to capture it in a photo however it can do it no justice. The only other dish I have ordered is boiled rice and I am glad as anything other combination of food would mellow in comparision to this dish. I love that Manly Thai Gourmet in the evening is pure simplicity when it comes to table dressing which brings a touch of simple elegance to this local favourite. No dressing up is required for such a place as this as the food and value speaks for itself - in volumes. read more

Delicious! So good. Went for lunch while visiting Manly. It's a little hole in the wall. But the food that comes out of that kitchen. Wow. We ordered at the counter than grabs some seats. By the time we got comfortable and filled our glasses the food was there. Hot and fresh. Veggie were so crunchy. I highly recommend. It might not have the best view but they have take away to grab it and eat at the beach. Oh and almost all of it is GF So cheap. Four of us ate for $37. And so yummy read more

The absolute BEST! Trust me. This place is legit. Ask any manly local, and they will agree. The chicken pad Thai is incredible. For like $12, you get enough for 2 meals (HUGE portions) but i usually finish it in one sitting because the food is just THAT good. The pad Thai and drunken noodles are both amazing- definitely the best Thai food I've had in Australia. The restaurant itself is kind of hidden in this random alleyway on the manly Corso- you will walk right by it if you're not looking. But it's truly the best. This review is based only on take away service. Have now done take away from here twice. Both times- my order was ready within the quoted time- ten minutes. Nice and fast, even on a Saturday night! I had the vegetarian spring rolls ($1.50 each) which were a bit small but nice and crispy on the outside and filled with veggies. Also had the pad Thai, which normally comes with chicken- but I subbed in tofu. Tons of veggies and deliciously prepared. Huge portion! Both times have had leftovers for the next day. Two spring rolls and the pad Thai will run you around $15-16. I find great value in this- especially since you can make the pad Thai two meals. Looking forward to dining in here! read more

Our food was delicious and incredibly fast. I had the Phad Kee Mao and my husband had the Pad Thai. His had no heat, but the flavor was very good and the bean sprouts were very fresh (sometimes you see browning or slightly old sprouts). My dish had great heat and flavor with the perfectly comforting wide rice noodles. The prices are much more reasonable than the rest of the places nearby, likely because they are hot on the water. I came to Manly from Circular Quay on a beautiful day as I sat outside on the deck enjoying the Sydney Harbor views. For lunch I ate at Manly Thai Gourmet for the first time recommended by an employee at the Hello Manly Information and Booking Center. It was really good, fast, cheap eats for good portion sizes. Best Thai food I had. It is BYO and you have the choice for takeaway. It is down a hidden lane-way on Sydney Road. Very authentic and a place you will not be disappointed. I had the Thai Pad with beef and I couldn't get enough of it. Highly recommend and I certainly will be back for more. I then checked out more of Manly and ran to ICMS (International College of Management) where they filmed The Great Gatsby. I then went back to Sydney as I wish had more time to check out other parts of Manly. The Manly Thai Gourmet is definitely a place to have a try for yourself. read more

A hidden gem, in a quiet arcade in Manly, two minutes from the beach. I have been going to this place for years for my regular lunch special and they are always pleasant, polite and quick with the orders. Visited after seeing great Yelp reviews but was not impressed. It was busy and service felt rushed. Plates and cutlery from starters weren't cleared but left for mains. The "special" San Choy Bow was disappointingly watery and overwhelmed by ginger and arrived within 2 minutes of ordering. The pastry on the curry puff was soggy. There is no indication of how mild/medium/hot each dish is. The beef in the massaman was very tender but the sauce was really oily with a film of red grease on top. Manly Thai is one of those little hidden treasures that have flavours to blow your mind. It's one of the best Thai food I have had in Sydney so far. The menu is simple and the flavours are delicious that take you on a journey from the first mouthful. And the reason I'm giving three star because of their food handling practice. They store their vegetable and cooked meat in the same fridge without any form of separation. Of all the meals on my 5 day stay in Sydney, I think I enjoyed Manly Thai best. Plenty of great meals, but not for the $9 you'll pay here. You can barely get a soda for that amount at most places. My wife and I wanted a quick bit after hopping off a ferry. We came across this place. The decor and ambience won't wow you at this hole in the wall, but the speedy service will. Seems like a cafe you have at the bottom of your office building that you go to because your either too lazy or don't have enough time to go somewhere else on your lunch break. Within five mins of ordering our food out came my first dish. Pad thai with prawns then 5 mins after came my second dish, the crispy cashew. I liked the pad thai, but my wife thought it was a little sweet. She had green curry which she thought was okay, but the rice was overcooked and mushy. Ths crispy cashew's sauce was on "fleek" but the dish was lacking in one essential item.... cashews. You would think with a dish called crispy cashew you would get some cashews, but I was mistaken and buyer beware: I definitely only counted 4 whole cashews and about 3 small broken chunks. The chicken I had with it was good, not great - actually run of the mill. It wasn't the worst Thai or the best Thai food, but if your in a hurry to eat and have to catch a ferry back to the main land, this is the Thai for you. read more
