Service is fantastic, wine recommendation paired very well after we ordered our meal and service was friendly. We went may 19,2023. Dishes are seasonal and based on available fresh ingredients. We chose this restaurant walking by and looked at the menu displayed outside. No photos on the menu so it's not a tourist trap! You start with a complimentary aperitif of local cuttlefish and a puff. Both very light and refreshing even on a rainy damp day. Appeetizer we picked the egg yolk with asparagus and chicken giblets with brioche. I don't remember the name of it. But it was lovely. Rich and yolky, but not runny and drippy. The chicken giblets were perfectly cooked and paired very well with the scoop of the sauce and yolk. The homemade taglioni with black truffle pasta is worth the 30 minute walk from the train station. My friend and I split the dish and they were so kind to bring 2 plates with half portions! The pasta is so flavorful with the clean and dreamy butter sauce that perfectly complement the oo's and ahh's of the black truffle shaved tableside. I want that flavor to linger for days! The octopus with yellow foie mousse hit the spot as well. Octopus was tender, and then tentacles grilled i think to give it a second texture. Either way, it was delicious. I heard the other table get dessert and was able to ask about the dessert called "idea of tiramisu 2.0" It gets served tableside with espresso freshly poured onto the pastry and it floofs right in front of you. fresh cold mascarpone cheese gets placed on and you need a little bit of everything on the spoon for the perfect bite. read more

At Chat qui Rit, the food wasn't the only thing missing--the professionalism was too. Our waiter, Giovanni, shuffled over looking like he'd just rolled out of bed--shirt untucked, hair disheveled, and a scowl firmly planted on his face. This is a review for people looking to get some amazing food and great service. We had been in Venice for almost a week, and while he have had some excellent food, this was the best meal we have had. That said, while the prices are reasonable (especially for the drinks), it is not cheap. You are not getting some sort of bargain. You are paying for some inventive and excellent food and great service. Not portion sizes. Just really amazing food. First, the service was impeccable. We were not dressed to the nines (as we were near the bottom of our wardrobe at this point in our travels) but were treated with the highest quality of service. At no point was the service lacking or rushed, and every dish on the tasting menu was explained. For a lunch setting, we were the first to sit, and the last to leave. And the food? So good. The emphasis here is on a fusion of local, in-season ingredients, classic Venentian cuisine, some eastern influences, and a little modern gastronomy. If you come here, I cannot recommend the tasting menu highly enough. Every dish was brought a fresh taste and a new surprise, and was paired with an excellent wine. The only regret was that they restaurant also had fresh oysters, and that option was not on the tasting menu. If you just want some traditional squid-ink pasta or liven & onions, this isn't the place to go. If you need to gorge yourself on a lot of bread or pizza, there are better options for your money. But if you need a break from the all the standard tourist fare and want something a little more elevated, I cannot recommend this place more highly. read more

This was a rather strange experience for me. Usually, I research restaurants obsessively, reading every review imaginable, before choosing the best option for my needs. We simply stopped into Chat Qui Rit for a drink, after taking our nephew for the quintessential Venice gondola ride. Chat Qui Rit was in the most touristy part of Venezia, and I usually avoid this area like the plague. Well the service was so pleasant, the wine so good, we just decided to settle in and order food until we caught the train back to Padova. We enjoyed the creative dishes and the wine, but by the time we were done, the bill was over 500 Euros. Chat Qui Rat was good, but not that good! I, the great seasoned traveler, got ripped off in tourist Venice! I should know better. On my past trips to Venezia, I dined anywhere but San Marco, and had good meals at decent prices. I really wanted to love this restaurant but unfortunately that was not the case. My husband, baby and I stopped here at 1230 which is supposedly when they opened. We walked in and I asked the man behind the bar if they were open because it didn't appear that there was anyone else there. He was visibly annoyed that I was asking as if it were obvious. We were seated at a table towards the back and it took around 10-15 minutes for a server to even come over. When he did (it was the same man) he asked us what we wanted to order. I ordered a glass of wine and when I told him that we wanted to share a cheese plate (we weren't hungry enough for a full meal yet) he got angry and told us "No, this is a restaurant, you have to order a meal". I was surprised by his attitude and said "We can't order what we want? It's on your menu and we don't want a full meal at this time". Again he said no, we were not allowed to order the cheese plate because it was a dessert and they "don't do that", whatever that means. I was very upset at this point because he was being very rude. My husband told him we were leaving and they exchanged angry words though I can't remember what was said. I obviously can't say whether or not the food is good but the decor was very nice and they had a baby changing table in the bathroom which is uncommon in Italy. However, I would not go back there due to the terrible service and I would not recommend to anyone unless you don't mind putting up with rude waiters. Edit: as you can see below, the owner (the one who was rude to us) has written a response. His original response we very long but was later deleted and he put up this short message. He was sent us several private messages threatening to sue both me and my husband if we did not take down the review. I had to block him because he would not stop contacting me. It is very clear from his comments that he is not a nice man and does not want certain types of people in his restaurant. His response says more about him and his restaurant's service than my review ever could. At least now you can see for yourself how terrible the customer service truly is. read more

Warning! Walk away from this restaurant. The appetizer is ok. The food is overall salty to the extreme and the restaurant is impolite and show an indifferent altitude to our opinion on the food. I loved this place! The ambiance of the inside was exactly what I needed after walking 7 miles around Venice! A quick stop for a drink and relaxation. Self-service means you can eat as soon as you select what you want from the several available options and seat yourself. You can also order pizzas, if you prefer. I was there later one evening, so pizzas were not an option and the food had gotten a little cold, but everything was solidly decent (not like some of the 'menu turistico' joints near San Marco who price-gouge you and serve you fish sticks). This place is just around the corner from the Hard Rock Cafe right behind San Marco, so if you find yourself in the super-touristy area around feeding time, and you'd rather have Italian/home-cooked food than Hard Rock fare (or don't want to wait when Hard Rock's crowded), then head away from San Marco past Hard Rock, take your first left, and look on your left. Came here for dinner during a recent trip to Venice. Walked past and booked for that night. The food was awesome. Really nice mixed meats and cheese to start, followed by different cuts of cooked pork. Finished with a scrummy desert. Was really tasty. All washed down with a few glasses of a chianti (the best I've had!). Service was perfect. Not the cheapest of meals, but definitely worth the money! My husband and I had dinner there today and we were impressed by the lovely atmosphere, the quick and attentive service, and the wonderful food and drinks! I also think that the cat logo is TOO CUTE ))) it wasn't cheap - we payed €120 dinner for two (2 bellinis, 2 glasses of wine, 2 main dishes, 1 dessert and 1 coffee). First off, the main guy (you'll know when you see him) was rude to us as soon as we walked in with his garbage demeanor and sarcastic answers. For some reason we decided to still try the place out. Once in, it took about 20 minutes for someone to come to us, but that's ok, as we were still trying to decide what we wanted off the very limited, expensive, and quite frankly non appealing menu. We eventually decided on just having the cheese plate as we didn't want to be rude because we already had our cups full of water. Again the main guy, told us we can't just order one thing to share because it is a restaurant and they don't do that. We said we didn't understand and he kept telling us we couldn't do that and he wouldn't allow it because it was a restaurant. So we decided to leave and he kept telling us we couldn't do that at restaurants as we were trying to get our stuff to leave. I don't recommend this to anyone especially Americans as it seems this man does not like them . Oh well, plenty of other great restaurants in Venice to go eat at! We ate here on the advice of a french guide book. The food was overpriced tasteless and warmed in a microwave. Barked at by the staff while quickly ushered along the counter in this canteen style resto one has no time to notice the prices on the board that is hard to spot. Once you have chosen from the school dinner style food you can be shocked by the price you will have to pay for tinned vegetables, day old meats and poorly put together meals. Please do not go here! This was a nice surprise. I'm glad I didn't look at the Yelp reviews before I walked in. Nice, cool, decor and good service. The burrata in the caprese appetizer was the best burrata I've ever had. Rich and creamy. They made a special penne tomato sauce pasta for my husband. It was delicious. Creamy and with the right amount of seasoning. I had the truffle pasta which had huge amount of truffles. I've never had a dish with so many truffles. It was good but, not awesome. It could have been a little creamer. The owner is definitely rude as others have mentioned. Our hotel recommended this place after we arrived, tired & hungry from our 8 hr flight & water taxi ride. The menu states there's a 7 Euro charge for "extra olive oil", so when I asked for olive oil because we were not given any to eat with the bread, I asked if there was a charge. This was after we already ordered our lunch entrees, etc. The owner gave us some pissed off answer and started complaining loudly to his waiters in Italian in front of us. Yes, over olive oil, which is usually free. Ridiculous, since our lunch cost around 70 Euros. There was only one other couple when we got there at 2:30pm. He glared at us, then fawned over other people. The food was good, but not worth the sh!tty treatment by the childish, aggressive owner. We were hoping to grab a late dinner around 9:00. Once we got there they said they had no seats available and that they had reservations they were still waiting to arrive... Which made no sense since he also noted they were closing the kitchen in 30 minute so. How do you have guests arriving at 9:00 (it was 9:10 when we got there) and plan to close the kitchen in 20 minutes. We saw plenty of available tables and he just chose to not serve us.
