Best Philly cheesesteak in Kansas City? Chartroose has been a favorite of mine for years. So much that I had their Philly after every childbirth. It was my comfort food. Nothing beats that flavorful meat, melted cheese, grilled onions and mushrooms. I always add on jalapeños and tiger sauce to level it up. Not a Philly cheesesteak fan they have other great menu items from burgers, salads and even bowls.

Order not followed asked for Well-done fries and received barely cooked. ordered 2 oz cheese cup, it was inedible looked like butterscotch, not cheese the color was so dark. This used to be good food but hard to even call food anymore. Unfortunate, I really used to like this place sad to see it has fallen so far.

I love me some Chartroose Caboose. I was surprised to see how low they are rated but at the same time I'm not. I think of them the same way I think of a small town divey bar or diner. It's greasy. It's old. You're not coming for atmosphere or entertainment. Instead you just want a great cheesesteak and fries. And the food is definitely the star. I love the Katy. It's just basic steak and cheese. I do like to add mushrooms. You can also opt for chicken instead of steak. And they do have toppings in the back-lettuce, tomato, etc. but you do have to ask at the counter. We asked for the tiger cry sauce. It's some sort of mayo horseradish concoction that goes great on the Philly or for fry dipping. The cheesesteaks are decent sized. You'll definitely be full. The bread is amazing. Super soft and delicious. The meat is juicy. The cheese plentiful. I don't know what's not to like. The fries are also delicious. They are crispy and thick cut. When the meat and cheese and whatever else you loaded onto your sandwich inevitably falls out and onto the tray below onto your fries, don't fear! The fries make the perfect vehicle to scoop any missed goodness into your pie hole without becoming a soggy mess. Definitely don't overlook them if you're searching for a tasting cheesesteak.

I liked the good variety of Philly sandwiches, and the tasty sandwich, but the service at the counter was poor, and it wasn't a very good lunch value. I was met at the counter by a glum employee barking out "For here or to go?" My turkey super chief on wheat ($8.29) was ready in nine minutes, and tasted great, with plenty of tasty turkey and cheese, and a good meat to bread ratio, on a fresh, moist 8" hoagie. I appreciated the good variety of meat and bread options, including steak, chicken, turkey, or ham, and white or wheat hoagies or wraps, but just a few condiments were available - steak sauce, Worcestershire sauce, mustard and ketchup. The dining area was spacious and clean, with a train theme, several TVs (off), two video games (off), and no background music. I also noticed a small patio area. Overall, I'm thinking 2.5 stars and rounding up for the good options.

We absolutely love this place and our daughter does too! The staff is very friendly and have suggestive sale. The food is delicious I love our chief Philly cheesesteak! More meat then bread, creamy cheese, onion and peppers are crisp and full of flavor. The seating you have multiple options such as relaxing and comfortable or common and practical. We will be returning and thank you for such an amazing lunch! And most definitely need to have their cheese sauce is mouth watering

I ordered the Rice Bowl with Chicken, onions, peppers and mushrooms. I asked before I ordered if the veggies were grilled and was told yes. When I got the bowl it looked good, big portion. There was absolutely no flavor, I had to add hot sauce. The veggies were not cooked, barely warm. I wouldn't not suggest this.

Reasonable cheese steak and fries but nothing to get overly excited about. Would certainly go back.

Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and our food came out quickly. I ordered a turkey club while my dad got one as well, and unfortunately we both had the same issue. The turkey was on the dry side, and it was sliced much thicker than I personally prefer. I tend to like a thinner deli-style sliced turkey, so it just wasn't my favorite sandwich. My mom ordered one of the salads though, and honestly it looked better than my sandwich. It was loaded with fresh toppings, and she said the ranch was excellent. If I come back, I'd probably skip the sandwich altogether and give one of the salads a try. Overall, I can definitely appreciate what they're going for. The prices are fantastic, honestly unheard of in present day, and that's the main reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 3. It's a true local spot, and I wouldn't mind giving it another chance to try something different from the menu.

I picked up a to-go order, and seeing that there was nobody really in the parking lot, I go ahead and head in thinking my order might be ready a bit early. To start things off, there were zero employees behind the counter. Another customer and I were standing there waiting for a good 2-3 minutes without being acknowledged, and we could hear all the employees in the kitchen talking and having a great time. It took one of us yelling "hello" to get someone's attention, and even then it took them awhile to come out and acknowledge us. After someone finally came to the register, the guy said absolutely nothing. Just stared at us like we had some nerve to bother him at his place of work. I was a little unnerved, but said "hi! I'm just picking up a to-go order". Still saying nothing, he looked at me, looked at the pickup orders, and handed me my bag without a word. I don't expect fast-casual places to go above and beyond or anything, but this spot has gone downhill in the human-decency department. The food was still fine and correct, but it'll be awhile before I come back.

I definitely got the vibe that they don't enjoy being there and they certainly don't want to be bothered. The first employee who was on the grill asked what we wanted for sandwiches and that was the end of the conversation. Another staff member came over to help her but also didn't say a word. A third employee was making fries for a takeout order and was also not engaging. We wanted fries in addition to our sandwiches but were never asked during the entire time our sandwiches were being made. So by the time they were done and we made it to the counter, we told them we also wanted fries and the irritation and eye rolling was felt. Honestly, that's their problem because had they asked when they were getting the sandwich order, those could have been done and ready to go. Definitely an efficiency and training issue that management needs to address. And maybe get some new employees without the attitude. The food itself was good. Since the fries were fresh they were super hot and crispy. My cheesesteak was large and delicious. I like just mushrooms and cheese because I'm five but they also have peppers and onions and all the things. The bread they use is so good. Nice and fluffy and holds everything together perfectly. Overall, the food is good but the staff isn't the greatest so if you can deal with that, you'll be in good shape. Otherwise, Chartroose Caboose isn't too far away.

But they don't just do pizza, there is an array of sandwiches, burgers, and of course their famous wings (beware of the Death Wings, like, REALLY beware). The kitchen is pretty much right in front of you and pies are getting slung constantly. That Rockin' Red sauce has that rich tomato base and it goes perfectly with that toasted crust flavor that only a pizza oven can provide. Toppings are seemingly anything (I'm a sucker for fresh mozz & meatballs) and while one slice is enough for many, two is just a sweeter spot. Beer on tap flows with local, regional, & known brands. The drink menu is pretty lengthy and beers will rotate with the seasons. If you're unsure on what you want, then your friendly server is very likely going to give you some good options. The whole place seems to be held together by stickers & customer 'art', so it gives Grinders a divey atmosphere but delivers a five-star product. Parking is Crossroads, pricing is reasonable but the value is far more than the price point(s), and there's a reason this place gets national exposure. It's that good. And if weather allows, then eat out back. Underrated KC patio.
