I used to come here constantly for my Philly fix, and this is the first time I walked away feeling annoyed and disappointed. I picked up a to-go order, and seeing that there was nobody really in the parking lot, I go ahead and head in thinking my order might be ready a bit early. To start things off, there were zero employees behind the counter. Another customer and I were standing there waiting for a good 2-3 minutes without being acknowledged, and we could hear all the employees in the kitchen talking and having a great time. It took one of us yelling "hello" to get someone's attention, and even then it took them awhile to come out and acknowledge us. After someone finally came to the register, the guy said absolutely nothing. Just stared at us like we had some nerve to bother him at his place of work. I was a little unnerved, but said "hi! I'm just picking up a to-go order". Still saying nothing, he looked at me, looked at the pickup orders, and handed me my bag without a word. I don't expect fast-casual places to go above and beyond or anything, but this spot has gone downhill in the human-decency department. I hadn't been here since 2019 and was craving a cheesesteak so I decided to make my way here. The three staff members there were neither friendly nor efficient. I definitely got the vibe that they don't enjoy being there and they certainly don't want to be bothered. The first employee who was on the grill asked what we wanted for sandwiches and that was the end of the conversation. Another staff member came over to help her but also didn't say a word. A third employee was making fries for a takeout order and was also not engaging. We wanted fries in addition to our sandwiches but were never asked during the entire time our sandwiches were being made. So by the time they were done and we made it to the counter, we told them we also wanted fries and the irritation and eye rolling was felt. Honestly, that's their problem because had they asked when they were getting the sandwich order, those could have been done and ready to go. Definitely an efficiency and training issue that management needs to address. And maybe get some new employees without the attitude. The food itself was good. Since the fries were fresh they were super hot and crispy. My cheesesteak was large and delicious. I like just mushrooms and cheese because I'm five but they also have peppers and onions and all the things. The bread they use is so good. Nice and fluffy and holds everything together perfectly. Overall, the food is good but the staff isn't the greatest so if you can deal with that, you'll be in good shape. Otherwise, Chartroose Caboose isn't too far away. read more

I am rating PepperJax Grill in line with other fast-food, without a drive-through, chipotle modeled establishments, so it gets a solid 4. It could improve the amount of vegetables offered, but I do appreciate the addition of mushrooms, so if you order a vegetarian option, like I did, you have some "meatiness." Maybe I wasn't missing out on extra vegetables because now that I think about it, they had onions, peppers, mushrooms, jalapeños, and two types of legumes. Maybe I was missing out on sauces! Pepperjax does have pepperjack queso, but it costs extra, so if you opt out of that, then you're left with a few salsa and sauce choices. I will say, the added omph of having your veggies grilled in jalapeño juice does make a difference and adds some spice and zing! I think it's unique that pepperjax takes the make it yourself model and has a variety of bases from Phillys to nachos to bowls...so much variety makes it like a difference eating experience each and every time you go. read more

PepperJax has been one of my favorite restaurants for years. I used to frequent the Liberty location and always had amazing service and experiences. Unfortunately ever since their move to Antioch service has continued to severely decline. Almost every time I go, they are "out" of food. It will be hours before they close and the grills are turned off, food is put away and the staff will sit together at the front of the store and refuse service. It's very disappointing and I hope this changes soon. I would love to keep going, but it's getting to be too underwhelming never being able to place an order. read more

Had such a great experience this evening. I walked in with my family and I found it strange that there was only one person taking care of everything but I was NOT let down! We've previously was taking care of by her so I knew I wasn't going to be disappointed. I asked for her name and she told me it was Vicky. I honestly don't understand how or why my experience here happened. It started with the general manager being blatantly rude to me when I asked for a recommendation. I was told "I'm not answering that. Get what you like". Then, they made a small mistake in my order that I asked to be corrected. This is totally fine, it happens! I've worked in food service, so I know mistakes happen, and that there's no point being disrespectful to someone doing their jobs. The response was to roll her eyes, begin picking the chicken and veggies out of my food with her hands, and then refusing to remake it when I asked her to stop. I was told it was my fault, they refused to fix my food, and I was sent out in literal tears. I'm not sure if that general manager was just having a bad day, but this was truly unacceptable behavior towards another human being. As far as the food is concerned, the fries were cold and, of course, I wasn't able to eat my own food. An employee's hands were in it and it was made with things I did not order. I like Pepperjax, but has anyone that works here ever tried the ordering process? You can barely hear what they ask you over all the noise of the cooking and then they act like you are crazy when you have to ask them to repeat what they mumbled at you. This time I tried the sausage philly with everything except jalapenos. I loved it! They are a little skimpy on the sausage, so having the addition of the peppers, onions and mushrooms helped fill out the sandwich. The sausage is sliced very thin, like pepperoni. I'd prefer a thicker cut, myself. Mom had the pulled pork. It was good, but not as good as some of their other options. Cook seemed to get a little distracted when finishing up our sandwiches, but overall it was still pretty fast. They keep the place clean, which is nice although we did have a wobbly table. read more

Every time I come here I think about ordering something new but never do. It's hard to deny a good Philly! I love their bread, filling and sauces. I seriously get a little bit of each sauce. Their fries are pretty good, but the small is plenty! My husband got the nachos and if I had known I could get rice and beans on nachos I would have gotten that too! It looked delicious! The customer misheard what she had asked, but regardless, there's no excuse for verbal abuse - not even because she was frustrated while training a new employee. My 10" steak Philly ($7.29) was grilled to order with my choice of mushrooms, onions, peppers, and jalapenos. The sandwich had plenty of lean steak on delicious bread, but the steak was a little salty. Plenty of sauce options were available to create your perfect sandwich. Two things I didn't expect from this place. Awesome nachos and awesome... Gravy. Yes gravy is a condiment there and it's some of the best I've ever had. Word to the person handling this Yelp page, you should include "Philly Cheese Steak" in your search criteria. I meant to write this three weeks ago, so, well, apologies ahead of time for any details I mess up. I do remember, however, the staff was fantastic, the food was great, and the restaurant was clean and visually appealing. So, you know, if I get any details wrong, I still recommend it. I went there on the evening of January 28 with a friend of mine and my infant son. The person who served me was Aaron, the shift manager; he was friendly instead of simply polite, and we chatted while he grilled my food. I got a salad with grilled steak and onions. Very tasty, very fresh, and huge--certainly a good value as well. The girl behind the counter, Sarah (I think? Again, apologies if I got it wrong), helped me carry my salad to the table while I carried my son in his carrier, which I thought was really sweet. It was pretty slow that evening, but still, it was above and beyond. My friend got a steak Philly, and said it was also excellent--and, again, huge. Like I said, the restaurant was very clean and pleasant. There are a number of old Mission photos and newspapers on the wall, which was very cool to look at while eating. It's a nice spot, with lots of windows overlooking, well, Johnson Drive, but still, it's something, anyway. Overall, highly recommend it. read more

Second visit here. On my first visit, the customer in front of me submitted a sizable and complex order, along with a healthy dose of surliness. The staff handled this difficult customer with grace and aplomb. I ordered a steak philly. It was done quickly and to specifications. The steak was super tender and moist, the bread had a good chew, and overall the sandwich was excellent. The grill guy was friendly and kept up friendly banter with myself and his co-workers. All the employees I've encountered have been very polite and professional. My second visit was around 7:45 in the evening, and the restaurant wasn't terribly busy. I ordered a steak burrito. It was probably around 3 minutes from order submission to burrito delivery, pretty darn fast. Everyone was extremely nice again. Their burrito is solid, comparable in size to chipotle, but no guacamole option. A different style, since they tend to include ingredients such as grilled mushrooms, onions, peppers, jalapeños, etc but excellent nonetheless. The steak is prepared fresh on the flat top, just like the Phillies, and you have complete control over the final inclusions. The place was spotless. Great experience. Can't find anything to knock. Very good food! My daughter had the chicken nachos and I had the steak nachos. We also got some french fries and a bowl of cilantro and lime white rice with pinto beans on top. I thought it was ok! I would recommend not getting the added seasonings... It made my sandwich very salty which ruined it for me. One big turn off for me was that the employee would grab the meat and throw it on the flat top then put the bread into the toaster without changing his gloves. He did this repeatedly which can not be acceptable. They should either have 1 guy doing meat and 1 guy doing bread or have him switch gloves each time. read more

The food presentation and customer service was awesome. However, I am very sensitive to spicy food and particularly jalapeños. I noticed that the Philly sandwich was prepared in the exact same spot a the previous order which had jalapeños. I told the person cooking about my sensitivity. I was told if I had an issue they would remake the sandwich; which they gladly did. It was much appreciated. However, my request was.that they clean off a section of the grill and then cook my meat and vegetables. The GM as sured me they had done just that. What this establiahment fails to realized is that people that are sensitive and/or allergic to jalapeños need a clean grill; soap and water. I began eating the second one and immediately began tasting the jalapeno and began having slight difficulty with breathing. Again the staff so kindly offered to remake the sandwich not fully understanding the necessity of cooking spicy on perhaps 3/4ths of the grill leaving a fourth for the non spicy customer. ME! So glad a location opened up close to my house. The husband and I visited last week. All 3 employees were friendly and sociable. I can actually say it was a good time. The food was really good. We got a Philly for my mom, who is a complete food snob, and she loved it. Her words "This is how a Philly is supposed to taste." The location was clean, parking was pretty easy. Prices were reasonable. Came out to about $10-12 per person, and we were full. You really dont even need the fries, but they are good. I like you can almost please anyone's food preference at one spot. They make Philly's, Nachos, Burritos, and Rice Bowls. Sauces are awesome, Queso is great (and Im usually bot a fan of nacho cheese...prefer Queso Blanco.) So yeah, check it out. read more

I came here to pickup lunch for the first time. A coworker got a bowl from here the day before and it looked/smelled delicious so I wanted to try it. I resisted the beautiful looking Philly cheesesteaks in exchange for a bowl. I got the chicken with banana and green peppers, onions, and jalapeños and grilled in jalapeño juice. I was asked if I wanted beans twice and said no both times, but alas I watched my grilled chicken and veggies get plated onto a mountain of rice and black beans. Next came the toppings, I kind of wanted this famous PepperJax sauce, but I wasn't asked and didn't know what to do. I didn't know what toppings to put in my bowl, so the guy making my food suggested salsa so I got hot. I also got lettuce, which was romaine and spinach, and a drizzle of spicy ranch. I shook my bowl on my way back to the office to mix everything up and took the first bite. So spicy! I definitely needed cheese or ranch. And the rice had a weird flavor. I ate half and gave up from being full and the bowl not being good. PepperJax did not live up to my expectations and regret not getting a cheesesteak. read more

Restaurant was a little dirty but I have to say that the choice of sauces and gravy's were awesome. The golden french fries and that muchroom gravy. Are you kidding me! Wow! I'm not a Philly steak sandwich fan, but the rest of the family wanted to try this. Had a brisket sandwich. Nice soft roll and tasty meat. It was ... ok. The staff was friendly. There's no trash can for you to throw away anything, so the staff busses the tables (and they needed it - even though we were eating lunch late and business was slow, they were a mess). The whole place needed a spring cleaning (lites above us were dirty, as were counters with condiments). I liked the old pictures on the walls (of the area schools, etc) better than anything else. I absolutely love their food. I usually get a rice bowl, but their Phillies are to die for too! It's very affordable and they have a lot of sauces to choose from after you get your food. My only complaint is the service is always really slow. I often go on my 30 minute school dinner break at 6:30. My campus is about five minutes from there and I'm always late getting back to class.
