No trust. Stay away. Spectrum Mobile sent a representative into my now deceased mother's home in Lincoln City, Oregon, to set up her cable service. The tech talked her into mobile service and sold her a smartphone and service plan--the phone was later shipped to her. My mother had dementia. She and her elderly friend were unable to set up the phone, and there is no local customer service office in that city. My mom had no car, had just moved there, and had no other local support. I spent over 30 hours on the phone and made two in-person visits to my local Spectrum store trying to get her money refunded. Then, just today, I found out they ripped me off, too! When I upgraded my own phone through Spectrum, the phone support agent made it sound like I was getting a huge trade-in deal on my 1-year-old phone and would pay only $157. In reality, the $157 was the trade-in value--and I owed $842 for the new phone. This was a long conversation with the tech, and I was overjoyed with my deal. There is no universe in which I would have knowingly agreed to upgrade my 1-year-old phone....why, except for the fake deal of the century, apparently. They blatantly lied and buried the truth in the contract fine print. This company preys on the elderly in their own homes. They will take advantage of you if you let them. Terrible "customer service", to be accurate the rating system needs to go less than zero. This company's system for addressing customers needs is tedious and very time consuming by design. If you want to "upgrade" and spend more you can do this on the web site in minutes. However if you want to reduce or cancel services a "in person" visit is necessary. Once at the retail outlet a sign in appointment is required. Staff seems completely unaware and not concerned how long the wait is and leave the service area for breaks and unexplained reasons for long periods of time. My neighbors have Their service and had an issue. The tech came out and told them they need to re route the line, that ran over the top of my house. They wanted to bury a line that ran through my property to my neighbors. They asked my wife for permission at which point she told them they needed to deal with me, her husband about the request. I was never contacted. PERIOD. 2 days later I Come home to a trench running from my backyard to my front driveway. Come to find out they decided to lay the line without permission! I contacted charter and angrily expressed my issue with them. A supervisor came out to my house a day or so later telling me they have an easement and didn't need my permission. What do I want an apology? I told him to show me the easement- as I had already done my homework, contacting my title company. There was only 1 easement for pacific power! After 2 months of dealing with a regional manager, they finally agreed they had no easement and no right to bury the line on my property without my permission. I made them remove the line and negotiated a small cost to them to repair what they had done. However, due to their blatant disregard for personal property and lack of knowledge regarding their rights of easements I will never do business with them. I'd say Charter is the worst cable/internet provider around, but that's not the case. In fact, any cable/internet provider will always be unequivocally bad, thanks to their sweetheart franchise exclusivity deals / quasi-monopolies. So in the end, it doesn't really matter whether it's Charter, or Comcast, or Time Warner, or Cox, your experience will always be completely awful. I had the misfortune of having to deal with Charter, as neither Verizon FIOS, not AT&T U-Verse service the Medford area. And of course, no one wants CenturyLink and their crappy DSL service. If it's internet you want, you're most likely going to have to deal with Charter. And since it's a service monopoly in Medford, they're also going to charge whatever the hell they want, since there's no competition. At least in Ashland, there's AFN to keep the Charter vultures in check. No such thing in Medford. So you've had one, you've had them all. Service is great when it's working. And expect to pay through the nose for everything unless you argue tooth and nail with them. I don't have Charter anymore (thankfully). And the best part of this review? My father n law had spectrum/charter. Sadly he passed away. Getting them to turn off his service has been horrible. We jumped through all of their hoops. Showing death certificates, going into their store to return all of the equipment. Calling several times to finally get the service turned off after months of trying and now they send a notice that we still have to return more equipment and we owe more money....which is not true. They will do anything to keep your service and anything to get more money. Run from this company. They are like fleas...really hard to get rid of them and you have to keep spending money to do so. I am forced into paying for basic television that I don't watch. It's part of their "bundle" and although I inquired about forfeiting this part when I first started with the company, I was told that my rate would jump by $13 or so. That's great business math! So I see a deal online for a two item bundle (internet and phone) for $49.95. I inquire and am told that no, I cannot have it because I'm not a new customer. Really? So I ask again about getting rid of the television aspect and am told this time that my rate will jump by $2/mo if I get rid of it. !!!! The thing is, people, that the television doesn't work. It cuts out so often that there's no point in trying. When I contacted Charter about it, they scheduled a tech to come out and when I demanded that I not be charged they said if the problem was on my end I would be. I have a brand new tv and new equipment--how could it be my problem? It doesn't matter anyway since the tech never showed up. I just didn't say anything becuase it's not worth it. One star because I can't go lower. On the other hand, once I switched to the business side of Charter, things improved, although I only get internet service now. I'd also much rather have them than Cox or Time Warner And now, here's the list of issues I've had: I've had 2 appointments where I was going to have cable and internet shut off. Both times something came up and I needed to keep the internet going for a little while longer but still needed the cable shut off. Both times the CS rep failed to mention that by doing so, they were changing the date and time of the appointment. Both times I only find out after I take half a day off work, they never come, so I call and then find out they rescheduled me without bothering to tell me and no, they were never sorry, I really should have known this was how they operate. Once I changed an appointment to a week later. I made no other changes to what was to be done. They were coming out to install a cable card. Unlike my previous issues, they didn't actually change my appointment, so I came home to a note saying they missed me. It took a couple more weeks to get them to come out. When they were installing the cable card into a Tivo, the bane of Charter apparently, the tech was talking to them to get the cable cards activated. He put the lady on the phone so I could listen to her yell at him about how he's not supposed to do anything with a non-Charter DVR and they aren't responsible for anything that goes wrong. I had an issue with one DVR not receiving service but the other one was. This was shortly before the time there was a box that had to be plugged in because of some encryption. The CS rep was telling me this was the issue even though if the problem was a signal that couldn't be decrypted on one DVR wouldn't be working on another. I knew this was him not knowing what he was talking about and wanted to speak with a supervisor, which he refused to do. He said I could go to the local office and get the device I needed. When I went to the office, guess what I couldn't get and had to get an appointment for. The tech came out and said the CS rep didn't know what he was talking about and they weren't requiring people to have those boxes yet. It was just an issue with the cable cards. I had upgraded the speed of my internet at one point. About 6 months later while talking to a CS rep about something, she mentioned I never had the increase activated on my account. She assured me this was all my fault because most people run a speed test to make sure the company I was paying extra for the higher speed did their job. No, they would not offer any sort of credit even though I wasn't getting what I was paying for. And then there was the incident with their phone service. 30 day money back guarantee is what they told me. The installer came out, drilled the hole in the side of the garage for the cable, making sure not to seal the hole on the outside, nor using drywall anchors to hand the modem on the wall, resulting in a nice hole since it was a bit heavier than the drywall supports. He said he couldn't come in to test the phone and left before we could. The phone didn't work. We were so tired of Charter at this point we called within an hour of him leaving to say we didn't want the service since it wasn't working and we weren't happy with how things had been. We had to argue with the CS rep to give us the refund from their 30 day money back guarantee. The service had never worked but they still wanted to charge us for the hour it had been installed. I almost forgot about the phone calls. For months, every two weeks we'd get a phone call from them, telling us they could upgrade our package I can tell you right now that they never had our account up on their screen because this "upgraded package" consisted of a slower speed Internet at a higher price. Their phone calls were so frequent and predictable that we got to the point when we knew it was the on the other end of that ringing phone. After awhile of being offered the same offer, we started telling them that they call us all the time and that their offer is worse than what we have now. Sometimes that would stop them but other times it wouldn't. In those cases I'd beat them to the punch and tell them how fast my internet was and how much we paid. You'd think they'd be able to mark an account that was useless to call but this is a cable company you're dealing with, so you can't expect to much. But one Christmas I did get a card from them acknowledging that I had some issues with them in the past. Didn't say they were going to fix anything or change in any way but they did know I've had issues with them. read more

We recently had Charter transfer our service, and we have no complaints. In fact, the service rep who took my call actually gave us free installation and free DVD for one year. Can't beat that! We are paying $89 per month for TV and InterNet which seems high to me, but I suppose that is the going rate. We have had no issues with our reception or our service. We are pleased so far. I called later to talk to a Customer Service rep and felt she needed better training; she kept me on the phone for 45 minutes because she couldn't figure out how to solve my problem. She finally got her supervisor to solve it. That is the extent of my problem with Charter. read more

Michael, tech # 2127 came by my house to fix my cable and wiring from previous install done incorrectly. Bottom line he was knowledgable and fast and fixed everything in no time. Working from home internet can be costly if down. However, thanks to Michael he restored my faith in Charter Cable technicians. I just had my home built with upgrade direct cables in each room. This is the worst internet & cable television provider I've experienced in decades. I've moved around a lot in the last 20 years, always pay for the fastest internet package available (for my line of work) and best digital tv package too. Close to a dozen providers I've been with and Charter Communications tops the list for horrible service. For internet, and again - I pay for the fastest service available, their service just drops randomly throughout the day. With my business, the longer I can keep a steady connection, the more work I get done. However, their internet just dies for 5-10 minutes about 10-20 times a day. I've worked with their tech support and even purchased my own top of the line cable modem + router. Unfortunately, there is not much competition where I live; dsl at 1.5mb/s is my only option and that just won't cut it for my work. If there were more stable competition, I'd pay double in a heartbeat. The digital tv service is just horrible too. It's not uncommon for random channels to just not be available. Sometimes it's just a black screen, sometimes it says "channel not available, try again soon" for hours, or constant freezing up. The digital box they provide is slow (5 sec between channel changes - why?!?!) and the DVR is flakey. I set it up to record a single show per time slot and it may or may not decide to actually record it for me. Heck, even the record light is on then when I go to watch it after it's done, it's simply not there. Thankfully, unlike internet in this town, you do have a choice. I will be switching back to DirecTV as they are reliable and provide far better service & equipment. I'll finish with their customer service & sales. Not once have I had a good experience. What I specifically ask for from sales is not even close to what they create for a work order. Initial setup was for max internet/cable/phone package - work order says "internet only." A few months later drop tv service, they send tech out to remove internet. This area is in dire need of reliable competition. I would pay twice what I pay charter for the service I had in Vegas, Seattle, Colorado, or.... anywhere really. read more

I have been a long time Charter subscriber. During that time I have had the three service bundle (tv-internet-phone) though now have dropped the phone. I have never met a company who so completely attempts to play its customers while providing only mediocre service. Every month or two my bill will increase, then I spend an hour on the phone getting it back where it was, usually the excuse was that some "special deal" that I had no knowledge of expired, But, they always have another special deal that keeps the bill about the same rather than have me fire them completely. To get the few TV channels that I want to watch (probably 15 or so, I have to buy 150+. A cafeteria plan is really needed to sell the customer what they want and need. The internet and phone service worked fine, and I have no complaints about the technical service there, just the business and billing practices which always leave you feeling like you are shooting at a moving target trying to know what you will owe month to month. Competition is really needed to make Charter develop some real customer service and not feel like they are a quasi utility who doesn't have to compete or care for their customers. read more

I have been using Charter for many years and while I don't like some of their policies; they are not much different from other internet providers in terms of charges and short time promotions. I have even gone with their telephone/internet/cable TV package. This has proved to be a money saver, especially the telephone, though with one disadvantage, if the power goes off -- the phone goes off. However, I have a cellphone so loss of the land line for a short time is no major inconvenience. The internet and TV service is as trouble-free as one can expect from any utility. I have had bad experiences dealing with Charter by phone and now won't do that. The staff at the Grape ST. office is very helpful and there I believe you can get the best deals possible. For example, I went in to discuss a change in service when a promotion ended and I asked if the new, and much smaller, cable boxes were now available in our area. The sales rep. told me that not only were the boxes now available but we could get the digital HD boxes for no additional charge. (There had been a higher monthly fee from them if upgraded from the standard box.) I would never known this if I hadn't asked the local staff. read more

The only good thing is we still have their equipment, so they repair or replace it. I don't think new customers have that options without paying more. BUT... another price increase in their Internet and I've had it! I pay for 100 mbps and have never gotten speeds anywhere near that! Oh, they say they do this or that and it will get better. They provide new boxes and lie that our old one won't work, so we have to take it. Yes, they lied, in the store. When I told them I didn't want the new box, two employees told us our Internet would get "slower and slower" until it stopped altogether. Later a technician apologized for them saying that, since it wasn't true! Today my tested speed was 40.7, about average. Not 100! I'm looking into the other companies this week. Charter has by far the worst customer sevice I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. They have lied to me several times and even admitted that they lied, telling me my bill was current, then shutting off my service for non payment.( I have auto pay!!) Recently I called because again I started getting phone calls over my bill being late, 12 days BEFORE my auto pay was to come out of my accout. The supervisor, Robin, operator# xtr, was very condescending and treated me like a child. Her way of apologizing " we are all humans and we make mistakes" without helping at all. this is not acceptable to me, I am paying for a service not others mistakes, my time is valuable to me. DO NOT BUY INTERNET FROM CHARTER - I have had Charter in Medford for over 7 months now. I swear to God, every Sunday like clockwork the internet just stops working, and when it actually does work it is slower than Dial Up - I AM NOT KIDDING! I called them and they said the ping was slow and that they had to send a tech out to fix it, the tech guy comes out says that there's nothing wrong with my internet and that I'm wasting his time. He then said he took a look outside and found some issues that he "fixed'. I get charged $45 that they said NOTHING about, and the next Sunday I have the same exact issues. I signed up for Yelp just to post this review they are that much of garbage. DO NOT BUY CHARTER INTERNET, unfortunately Dish will not work at my location so I am stuck with having to bundle Charter Cable and internet. The cable works fine but no Pac 12 Network, if I could get Dish I would be DONE with Charter. It's complete garbage, 0 customer service, and every Sunday is slower than Dial Up. Not even kidding. Save yourself! Okay so a guy named Clifford knocked on my freaking door Thursday October 4th and ask me about my internet service and I said that CenturyLink provided all I needed for only $35 a month and we don't use any sort of cable TV and he claimed that he was a consumer and all about helping out other consumers so he shook my hand and he left and ever since he left..... my internet has been slow as hell and I have not had any problems since we got her new modem until this guy knocked on my freaking door. The funny thing is that he claimed that the only thing he could offer is faster internet but if CenturyLink was offering all I needed then he had no business here. I had high speed internet since '99 with @Home through Charter. Then Charter took over @home and problems ensued. Internet was never stable. Email down for days at a time. Several tech's came out to fix it. One tech talked me into the top of the line digital TV package said this would fix internet problems as well. Set it all up and then I would slowly lose channels. HBO and other movie channels would go to a gray screen. One at a time until half the dial was blank. Charter sent out tech's to fix it several times. I told them I was refusing to pay another bill until it worked. Charter said a tech would be out to fix it once and for all, the cable whisperer. They would be out on my day off, the next Monday. I told them I refused to miss another day of work. I came home from work the next day (Friday?) to find a "Sorry we missed you" notice from Charter on my door. I called and they said that since I missed a tech I had to go the back of the line. They couldn't send a tech out for more than a month now. "But my appointment was on Monday, not today"? I said. Charter replied,"You talked to a manager, they dont have the schedule in front of them. The tech was busy Monday, so we rescheduled it" So I tore all the charter boxes, cables, and modems out of my house and took them down to their office on Grape and dumped them on the counter. Cancel my account. They threatened to sue me. "You signed a two year contract" I told them the contract stated they would provide TV service also. "I guess we will see what a judge says" and walked out. They never sued. I refuse to use there service again. read more

TOTAL RIP OFF!! I tried to have them hook up an additional TV, not anything fancy, not another dvr, just hook up my same basic cable to a TV located 12 feet from the original hook up. They tried to charge me $40 just to come out! When I asked why they would charge so much no one could give me a valid answer, just as no one could validate the charge to pay my bill with a rep. Why would I ever PAY extra just to pay my own bill?!?!? Their website is a joke. on virtually every occasion I attempted to pay online the payment was dropped with no notification, other than me getting calls attempting to collect later. Silly me, when I reach the confirmation page, and it says "thank you for your payment" I assume that it went through. I'm sad to say, that after a year of a very good experience with Charter, they seem to have really lost it. I moved from one house to another, decided to bundle my phone, internet, tv with them. I was told I could keep my long-time phone number and then... The installer came and couldn't get it up and running. They came to my house 3 times. I had to take time off of work and wait around for them for a total of about 15 hours. It turns out that the sales person hadn't told my what I needed to do to be able to have my phone "ported." Another 2 hours on the phone and a lot of frustration and anger and now I'm done. I called them today to cancel my cable and just go back to internet only (which at my old house I paid $29.99.month for), but they said that the price would now be $10 more. Recently was billed $90,00 for service calls to replace defective DVRs. I was never told that there would be a charge to replace defective equipment. Customer service says that there will be a charge everytime a technician comes out, regardless of the problem. She offered to waive $45.00 of the charge if I would agree to sign up for an additional $4.99 month for some kind of internal wiring service protection, so Charter would get back the "waived" $45.00 plus a few bucks more in a year. Looks like a win-win for Charter and sorry about that for Mr. Customer. Caveat Emptor!! read more

They once tried charging me $35 to have someone to come out and fix my slow internet connection.... a problem that the repair tech told me was caused by the improper installation and set up that a previous tech did. OMG! This is the worst cable company ever. Before I even begin to tell you about it, I will let you know that I have had it for just over 24 hours. It was a disaster starting with some guy selling it at some local Walmart. He signed me up but did not tell me about all the costs and made it much more complicated so that when the installer guy came, he was confused because he was only installing the internet according to his instructions. This, after I had already paid two visits to Charter that week. They were understaffed and a line of 15 people were waited on by two persons. A woman there said they were hiring more people as if I cared. So, now I have the internet which works but the line up of channels is the most God-Awful list of garbage one can imagine. In addition, the remote works poorly and provides the worst service in changing channels. It pauses and must be made by some exploited Chinese workers at the end of a 16 hour shift. Tonight, I was blocked off of MSNBC and CNN and, of course, you can't reach anybody but an electronic recording. I thought I had it bad with the local company here in Ashland! If only I knew how bad Charter was but I figured being a big company they could not be worse! WRONG!!!! I am going to cancel this coming week. The cable companies are all garbage in this area unless you want to spend a minimum of $150-$200!! Forget cable. I am going with Netflix and Youtube or Hulu. Forget the news....I can get that and a lot more on my computer. What a waste of my time, energy and money!!!! This cable company is a piece of crap and I really mean it. Just had the worst experience with Bobby the tech. We canceled our tv service so I had to disconnect our cable boxes. In doing so the WIFI stopped working and I couldn't figure it out. Bobby came out in the morning to fix it. Took a quick look and told me I had it plugged in to the wrong cable outlet. I explained it has been plugged in there for a year (since the last tech installed our cable) and has worked just fine to which he replied "all I can say is thats impossible its a dead line." We actually argued about it for a minute and he just kept saying it was impossible but he would have it fixed in no time. Well sometime later after cutting the cord and installing a different outlet he realized I was right and it was a different problem. LOL he did finally fix it and the funniest part is it ended up plugged into the very same outlet I had it plugged into originally. All that extra work for nothing, he must get paid by the hour. Despite how rude he was as well as calling me a liar its pretty funny because he was so arrogantly sure he was right without ever considering what I was telling him. I get it they want to make it seem like its your fault so you have to pay for the visit but with the expanding TV options out there you should hire pros and expect some customer service from your techs. read more

I don't usually leave reviews but this time I will. I have no idea how to leave one regarding their phone service. The guy I spoke to on the phone trying to request a phone number for my Grandma, a number she had since she had moved in to her place. She is 89. So it has been years that she has had that number. Well she moved and didn't know she could request her number. No I'm not authorized on her account but the number wasn't one she was using I just wanted it looked up if it was available to request for the cell phone at least. I did get her on the phone to make it all kosher. But he was so rude she said never mind. We weren't making changes to her account. She wasn't stopping or changing service. No one was requesting any actual account info. Just requesting to know if the number was available. I didn't get a chance to do the survey on this guy. But he shouldn't be in customer service. It would have been a nice thing to do for someone who has had a number since before I was born and I'm 35 now. But complete fail on your part charter. read more
