Call, lose half day of work, tech comes, issue not at house, work order for service crew placed, service crew arrives don't fix issue, does NOT test to see if issue is fixed, marks service call as complete, drives away. Call, lose half day of work, tech comes, issue not at house, work order for service crew... Rinse and repeat for two years. Charter is horrible and the price continues to increase. No bars of cellphone service for 10 days!!! Charter blames Verizon. Verizon blames Charter. I can only contact people if I'm at least 4 miles from my house! Not one tech rep has been able to help! I live in an area where only 4G is available, surrounded by mountains with 5G, so "Sorry, come back when our specialist is in. He'll be here in 3 days." "Maybe he can help you then." I have had Spectrum Internet since 2011 and have been satisfied with it. I would have rated 5 before Spectrum opened store. Other office more cordial and helpful. New mobile customer as of Jan. 2023 What annoys me is 1. the difficulty finding support for phone when, in my case, I only have one phone and I am told they cannot help me. 2. App billing -when I make an extra payment on phone purchased I receive an acknowledgement of payment but does not include balance remaining on phone. There is no available history to view showing amounts paid on phone and current balance on phone. That's what I dislike about app statements - too minimalist. But I am old school, prefer paper statements with more detail & a paper trail. read more

Wherever I have lived (CA, NY, GA, FL, NC), I've always had the privilege of having Spectrum Internet. I say privilege because now I live on a road in Waynesville, NC (28786) which does NOT have Spectrum....yet. Seriously, to all those who are giving 1 and 2 Star reviews - you honestly don't know what you've got until it's gone. I am agonizing through Satilite internet. Our road signed a petition - every house on Echo Drive - telling Spectrum we would all sign up for services Day 1 if/when they come out to install the lines on Echo Drive in Waynesville. I recently moved to a new apartment which already had Spectrum service. I contacted Spectrum on Sunday February 2, 2020 to cancel my existing account since there was no reason to transfer it to my new location. During the conversation, one of your agents informed me that I would continue to be charged through the remaining billing cycle even though my billing cycle had just started three days prior on January 31, 2020. Of course, I was not happy when I was told this and questioned the agent's statement. She told me "that is our policy" as she read from a script, insisting there was no alternative. I suggested a logical solution to the matter and that was to pro-rate the bill, after all, I did use the service for three days. However, she reiterated I would be billed for the entire billing cycle as she read from the same script, word for word. I knew further conversation would fall on deaf ears, so I asked for a supervisor, to which she replied "yes, you may speak to a supervisor but he will tell you the same thing". After 10 minutes on hold, a supervisor named John answered the phone. He had been briefed by the agent as to why I asked to speak with him. To my continued disappointment, he read from the same script as the agent and didn't waver as he read, "that is our policy" again and again as I tried to interject some semblance of rationalism. Needless to say, I was more perturbed at this point and asked to speak to a manager. I was informed the manager was not on duty at the time and that "he will tell you the same thing", but I persisted and the same reply was repeated another three times before I insisted the manager call me back when he/she was on duty. Needless to say, I never received a call from any Spectrum representative. I then sent an email to their Customer Service department only to be told the exact same thing. This is no way to treat your customers. I had been happy with the service and would have eventually gone back to Spectrum, but after this experience, I will be looking elsewhere for service in the future. Ironically, at the end of the call the agent said 'we appreciate your business', and I said, 'No, I don't think you do appreciate my business'! Your unfair policy of not pro-rating your bills is appalling! I've read some of the reviews about Spectrum and there are many others that express the same views on this policy as I do. I could understand if the new policy was meant for new customers, but it was not in effect when I started my service, so I should have been grandfathered in the original TOS, and not to have new changing terms imposed on me in the middle of my service. Is this how your company treats their customers? They are extra friendly when they know you are going to sign up for service, and they are very pleasant when you have to call for technical service, too, so I expected the same customer-first service I was used to when I called to cancel my service, but instead I felt like I no longer mattered now that I would no longer be a customer. I am not asking for anything other than a fair and equitable agreement. I am more than willing to pay for the service I used and will agree to a pro-rated bill. read more

I am insanly disappointed by Spectrum. We have been customers with Spectrum for years. On Monday, they came out to check out our neighbors connection. In the process, they ended up disconnecting our internet. We now have no internet or tv, because we have both through them. Mistakes happen. No big deal. They say they can't come out and fix our internet until Saturday! 5 days after, THEY messed up our internet. I attend university online, and even without that why should we not have internet for several days because of a mistake they made! Since then they have said they were sending a tech once on Tuesday and once on Wednesday. Guess what? No one came both times. No calls, nothing. I am now struggling trying to get my university work done, in a time of Covid, where being able to post up at a place to use their internet isn't as easy as It once was. Beyond disappointed and stressed by Charter Spectrum's mistake, lies and awful customer service. I have never seen a company sink to this level. i have come across a lady that comes to our food bank. Her TV and phone have been disconnected for the past 3 weeks. This lady is mentally and physically disabled. She gets $730 a month in an SSI check. A door-to-door salesman came to her hovel and sold hr $230 of Spectrum services, including the internet. She would not know what in the world that was, let alone order it. This is unconscionable to take advantage of someone like this. I called customer service and they said "too bad, she ordered it". They are the scum of the cable business. Do not use. I have escalated this to the FCC and FTC. It is a shame the company can not correct this. read more

Absolute dog shit. Every other day there's an outage in Asheville. When the internet does work it's slow.

Charter Spectrum creates their own bad reviews. Cable box failed. Go to Asheville Spectrum store. #18 in line - two people working. #18 gets called. Agent says, "Sorry, no box for you - you have no ID" (I have the defective box in hand. Go back a second time, get a box (never asked for ID). Go home, plug in box - doesn't work. Call Spectrum, after 51 minutes, they offer a 5-6PM appointment. Guy never shows up by 6. Call again, "he will be there at 6:25." At 6:30, no guy, 6:45, no guy. Guy shows up, replaces the box. Guy says this happens all the time (bad boxes). Still want Charter Spectrum? You've been warned. read more

I only use Charter for Internet service. The service itself is passable and reasonably fast, though every hour or so I will lose access for a minute or two and then it will reconnect. The reason I'm giving 2 stars is because of the bait and switch operation they pulled on me when I signed up and poor customer service. When I signed up for the service, I was told it would be $39.99/mo. for just Internet access. The tech guy showed up to my place and said, "You signed up for TV/Phone/Internet for $99.99 right?" I explained to him that no I only wanted Internet access. Then he said he'd have to put in a new work order, and that the Internet would be "more expensive." Anyway, when I got my first bill, it was $54.99/mo. In repeated phone calls and e-mails with Charter they acknowledged the problem, acknowledged the initial promise of $39.99 and said they would fix it. It's been a couple months now and they still haven't given me the price they promised initially and likely never will. I require cable Internet for my job and they are the only game in town, otherwise I'd cancel my service in light of this experience. read more

People give charter a lot of flack, but most of the "complaints" are people who think that "promotional pricing" should last forever.. charter has always been willing to give me a fair price regardless of how long I've been with them. Recently I was upgraded to 100Mbps download for no additional charge. I absolutely love the new speed.. 4 stars because they still try to charge a $200 activation fee on their ultra internet. We all know by now that the ultra internet is as simple as re provisioning a modem, a 5 second job, done from a remote location. read more

Maybe I'm spoiled. I recently moved back to Asheville after living in San Francisco for about 8 years. I was a customer of Sonic.net in San Francisco and not only received spectacular customer service, but my internet service rarely had an outage. Now that I'm in Asheville, my ISP is Charter Communications. Worst ISP EVER! Everytime there is even the slightest rain, the service goes out. I call Charter, they usually acknowledge the outage and have no idea when service will be restored. While the outage usually last under a few hours, the frequency of outages is ridiculous. Charter isn't a small mom & pop operation. But the fact that they endure in this area is due to the overwhelming lack of competition. They have a corner the market in this area. Which is sad, because in this day and age the level of service which they provide is appalling. Avoid them if at all possible!! read more

This is a review of Charter's business internet service, which is likely why it is so far out of line with the other reviews. Overall I've been quite frankly impressed with it. Install was quick and painless. The technician showed up exactly at the start time of the window they offered (he said business installs always get priority) and things were up and running fairly quickly. It has been very reliable with only a single outage of 15 minutes in a year of service and that was when a lightning strike happened so close it rattled the windows. The provided SMC D3G modem (no fee) is rock solid. The one time I had to call tech support due to some one second blips during the day causing VPN disconnects they were helpful, listened to my description of the problem, and after verifying that I indeed had rebooted the modem (seriously, does anyone not reboot the modem at the first sign of trouble!?) and such they had a truck out investigating that afternoon. Speeds are exactly what they advertise, and they automatically upped my speed when their advertised speeds went up. Other companies I have used in the past were more than happy to let you poke along at the lower speed until you called up and complained. Business customers must have their traffic prioritized because no matter what the time is I get 100% of the speed I pay for. There haven't been any hidden fees on the bill: the advertised price is what I cut a check for every single month. Yes it is more expensive than residential service, but it is MUCH cheaper than other business services. My only complaints are that the upload speed leaves a bit to be desired and the modem has a very large send buffer. This means if you are uploading something it will take a while and real-time stuff such as VOIP or video conferencing will be choppy while you are uploading. This isn't too big a deal for my needs but if you plan on having a server or sending very large files regularly you might want to consider it. read more

I downgraded my service plan to internet only from a triple play and was being charged hundreds of dollars after I turned in all my equipment. The customer service lady and black dude next to her said they would fix it. Never did. I kept getting bills. My internet then went completely down I had several techs over in 2 weeks span. I talked to the same customer service lady at the office for a second time. She said she would fix my bill. She lied. Obviously she has no integrity. Then I called customer service twice both times they said they would fix. Never did. The last time. I called customer service I had a $500 bill for $44.99 internet I only had for 3 months. The rep told me that if I paid over $300 he would reimburse me in 2 days. They never did. He lied to me to get me to pay. 100% liar all the customer service people that I spoke with are LIARS. I have never met ANY PERSON who worked at Charter Communications or Spectrum that had once ounce of INTEGRITY! I'm about to file a police report. No joke. Did everything exactly how the setup said, rechecked it 15+ times because it wouldn't work.called over half a dozen different #s talked to people who jus sent me to another voice recording # I had already called. Charter's local subsidiary - Spectrum is our new replacement for Time Warner Cable. Charter/Spectrum services are poor at best. Since the acquisition and change over, there is no local call center in Charlotte, NC. Every technical service center call goes to an overseas operator who does not possess the communication skills required. I spent over 25 minutes trying to explain the issue - a missing coaxial cable removed by their technicians - to the person on the phone. Her best solution was an appointment 3 days hence to have someone look at my system and determine the problem. Spectrum charges you a full month bill if you are their customer if you are one day in billing period. spectrum also changed our service due to internal initiative and charged us at a higher rate- due to them making an error one their own and billed us at a higher rate for another month...Can not wait to get rid of them...all ways terminate their service a couple days before billing period ends due their taking advantage of customers...I will always think of them every time I flush! read more

ATT, TV has been charging both my credit card account AND my checking account since 5/2020. Today they admitted to adding a second account for the same service, but will only reimburse 6 months instead of covering the full amount. What a disgraceful company. Charter internet service is substandard. If your business depends on the internet, you should really consider another provider. The most disconcerting aspect of the service is that it works well for a brief period and then it slows down. You can load a page quickly and then it takes forever to load the same page 5 minutes later. Conducting conference calls or webinars is chancy. You never know if your connection will LAST MORE THAN 20 MINUTES. The lack of reliable service will prevent small businesses from locating to NC. read more

I called after just moving from NY to set up Internet. The guy on the other end spoke as fast as an auctioneer, literally within five minutes had changed the price from 40-50 without explaining why. Then said OH BUT YOU DON'T WANT THIS AWESOME LANDLINE PHONE? No. That's why I never said I did, and specifically wanted only Internet. This sales person called me SIX TIMES after I hung up and said I was no longer interested because I felt like it was a total scam. This was a re-seller of charter, but they are apparently all the same. He sent me a confirmation email and told me after I finally answered that the order was already placed and there was nothing I could do about it. I didn't even give any billing information....have fun wasting your time and gas to get the door slammed in your face next week spectrum EDIT*** Do not bother with the resellers! I called Charter directly and they were lovely. IT took me ten minutes to get the deal that was online, no one lied or yelled at me. call them directly! read more

ZERO Stars. Negative stars would be better. Tried to port our business services over to Charter/Spectrum. They told me to have my IT tech and my phone techs on site which I did at their hourly rates. Charter tech showed up 4 hours late and no facilities were even run or prepared. They did not have an FOC for our numbers. We tried a total of three times over three weeks and it cost me over $3000 in technician charges for being at my office for up to 8 hours at a time waiting for Charter to get their act together. Finally, we had to cancel the whole thing. Later I found out that our 800 number does not work. Windstream says that Charter ported the 800 number and Charter says they canceled it. Now we are out $3000, and have lost our 800 number which we had for 8 years. The worst company to deal with ever!!! ADDENDUM: I requested a credit for some of the lost expenses on my phone system technician who showed up three times for failed cutover attempts. I never heard back from Charter, but they actually credited my December 2015 statement with over $1600!! I am very surprised and pleased. The repeated attempts to cutover service were painful and disruptive to our business, and we still have lost our 800 number, but at least we got some of the money back. read more

Their cable tv service isn't so bad, guess it's harder to mess up the instillation. We've been forced to use them for internet service for about twelve years now though and have to call them out at least twice a year to repair or replace something and good luck if you don't get a tech that knows what they're doing, which happens more often than not, you may be calling on a daily basis till you luck out on one who does. We spent two weeks this lat time trying to get ours fixed till one brilliant person finally checked the line coming into the house and it was loose, however now the one before him gave us a modem with a loose plug so it cuts out constantly and drops service. When they get Verizon 5G here, definitely switching as my mobile hots pot has been sadly, more reliable. read more

Trying to contact customer service takes forever, and once you actually reach someone it's like talking to a toddler. My DVR stopped working, so shows that were scheduled to record...just didn't. Where do I start!? No option for zero stars so 1 will have to do. For the first 6 months. My internet was intermittent. Would randomly crash 8-10 times a day for 10 minutes at a time. You all know how frustrating that is if you work from online. Then...after it's been "fixed" just randomly goes down every other day or so for 3+ hours....guess I'm not making money that day, but paying for a service that I'm not receiving. Lastly, just had a technician come out today!! After 36 hours without internet because that's the fastest they could get someone out here...turns out, the technician live in the same building as me in the same apartment complex!!! Lastly, he fixed my internet, was going well, until tonight. Trying to catch up on a show I've been missing and then poof!!! No internet and sorry, can't call until tomorrow. F*#k Spectrum!!! I rarely watch broadcast tv and if you are a bit patient, you can find most any show on Netflix, Hulu, or other direct subscription site. You pay for a DVR that can't figure out to record the next available showing of your show if there's a conflict ( DitecTV had this function ) On Demand series rarely have the entire current season. Why pay $80 when that will buy me dinner for two. Drop off the box. Save money. read more

In August 2008, my mother moved from a questionable Methodist retirement community in Asheville. I became her Power of Attorney and disconnected the cable TV service where she no longer resided. A small refund check was received for Charter several months later. My contact information was provided to them for any necessary follow-up. In August 2009, my mother passed away. In May 2011, my mother's estate was settled. I served as the estate's executor. In July 2011 (almost 3 years after closing the account) a second refund check in the amount of $23.83 was received from Charter Communications. I called their corporate office to inquire about the check and to ask that (since it took them three years to provide a full refund) the check be reissued to my mother's beneficiaries. Of course, they were unable to honor that request but acted in no way surprised that their service was that far behind. I don't care about the money. Fortunately, I live no where near where I may have to rely on Charter Communications' service. However, I thought it important that folks who are forced to live in areas that utilize Charter Communications know what you're dealing with. Does it mean that if you move, or discontinue cable service but remain alive, you can bank on waiting three years for a full refund? I would be very careful. read more

Charter is probably the worst provider I've ever had the misfortune to deal with. Our business needs internet to run properly. Their internet service hardly ever works. We get kicked off 10-15x's a day and have to reset everything all the time. They send techs out to fix issues that are never resolved. Charter should be shamed to even provide service of this quality. We're continuously getting charged for service calls for techs to come out because their service never works. They also engage in "slamming and cramming" which is the unauthorized changing of a persons telecommunications plan and services without their consent. They were charging us for services for 5 years that we didn't have. When I called to inquire and get a refund, they upped my services and raised my bill and didn't give me bill credits. This is illegal and shady business practice. I would rather operate in my business off of my cell phone network than continue to spend money and send it to these crooks. My tip? I would give Charter 0 stars if that were an option. We have had nothing but problems with their TV service (if you can call it that). Outages, boxes that suddenly stop working, scrambled channels when Charter does an upgrade, etc. Also, they advertise that Charter Spectrum lets you record/drv 8 TV programs at once. But that's only if you pay for FOUR of their boxes. What BS. In reality, you can only record two programs simultaneously on each box and you have to watch one of them. If I had any other choice, I would change companies in a heartbeat. read more

I've used Comcast, TWC and other cable providers in the last 12 years in other parts of the country before moving here and Charter's interface is by far the oldest and most outdated I've seen. It is not intuitive at all and On Demand is a complete joke. You can't even PAUSE a show on On Demand. So that means that you have to watch a show entirely in one sitting or you will have to start from the very beginning if you want to come back later. With TWC even if they didn't let you fast forward (so you are forced to watch the commercials) they would at least let you pause and rewind. I spoke with them about this and after numerous attempts to get an answer and getting the "we'll get back to you in 48 hrs" response and never hearing anything, I called again and they sent a person out (which is a complete waste of resources) and the person just said they changed it to not allow pausing, rewinding or fast forwarding and didn't tell anyone. He said he thought it was weird too. The cable service itself is spotty. Our picture gets pixelated at times on NBC. The internet is working well so far. read more
