The atmosphere was perfect and decor was beautiful. The food was just ok. I always feel it's a bad sign when you are seated at your table and there's salt and pepper placed there. Most high end restaurants have such flavorful food the salt and pepper are irrelevant and not present. We were right about our assumption because we both had to salt our entrees. We may go back and try once more...not sure just yet. read more

We arrived at the restaurant 15 minutes early and went to the bar to take advantage of happy hour. It took 20 minutes for someone to take our drink and appetizer order by which time happy hour was over. The appetizers finally arrived just as we were being seated at the table, so Katina (manager) comped them. Seated at a nice table overlooking the river and ordered our food. Melissa took our order and then we waited. Wife's soup arrived cold and we sent it back. Our dining companion's chopped salad was unedible and we sent it back. Scallops were tasty as was coconut shrimp. They were advertising a peach crisp desert, but were out of it, so had to settle for apple/cranberry something. This is one of the nicer waterfront restaurants in Jacksonville. Service was very attentive, menu had some great selections of seafood and meats / everyone in my party of 7 enjoyed their dinner very much. We had dinner here on June 20th with another couple. What a mistake! We had a reservation at 6:45 and arrived at 6:42. When we announced ourselves to the hostess were told we would have to wait until closer to our reservation time.. After waiting 30 minutes in the lobby as there were no seats in the bar we were seated at great table at the window with wonderful view of the river. Well we had plenty of time to look at it as no even spoke or gave us water for another 15 minutes. Once our waiter arrived we realized we were in trouble. He was either new (maybe first day) or incompetent. I ordered a glass of wine and waited forever for it although he put an empty glass on the table. 3 of us ordered prime rib medium rare and we all got it medium well. The fourth ordered the stuffed flounder and said it was good. The calamari was excellent! We have had wonderful experiences at the Savannah Chart House and we will never go back to the one in JAX. read more

The architecture of this building is absolutely gorgeous. It's really the only thing I enjoyed about eating here. The food was not good and certainly not worth the high prices. I had the Amberjack special. The fish appeared to be pan-seared and there were char marks on it that made the whole fish taste bitter. The fish had a thick membrane in it which was unappetizing. My guest had the lobster bisque and the steak marsalla. The lobster bisque was watery and bland. The steak marsalla was also bad. The marsalla sauce was nice but the steak was a poor quality flank steak and was flavorless. Also, the salad bar was a real let down. Great view; food not so much: improperly shucked oysters full of chips; unexceptional salad bar but redeemed somewhat by low grade caviar; lobster bisque had way too much of whatever sherry they put in; shrimp in shrimp cocktail not properly cleaned; ambient music is "classic rock." What a disappointment. Maybe would have enjoyed it more and overlooked the slack food prep if I had had a "signature cocktail." Just returned from there. Food was fine, I'm not a food critic, unless it is horrible. Husband ordered a blackened swordfish, it came grilled. Good but grilled. All other food was fine, maybe a bit pricey for fine, but then the service should make up for it.... nah . Waiter was nice but forgetful didn't bring some drinks that were ordered, then when we reordered, only brought one instead of two of the beers for the table and didn't ask anyone else if they wanted anything. no apologizes. so if you are going to spend 250 to 300 for 5 people, I expect better than Perkins service, especially when the food is mediocre. Terrible! Average food for 3x the price what it should be. When at the salad bar I could hear the cooks talking and saying foul words. This was the one restaurant we ate out at during our visit to Jacksonville. And it was the one mistake we made during our trip. It was like having dinner on a cruise ship ... and a bad cruise ship at that. The music was loud, the service was poor and the food 50/50 at best. Two of the three soups in the Minage were cold. The third one was supposed to be. The fresh Halibut that was ordered pan seared came baked. And the vegetable topping that we were charged extra for tasted like stewed tomatoes out of a can. We could not find the olives and capers that were supposed to be included. The dish also lacked seasoning. The fresh Grouper was actually ok hence the 50/50 comment. But the entrees took almost an hour to get to our table. It was really discouraging when people seated 20 minutes after us got their food first. No need for that when there are only 6 - 10 tables filled at the place. The lowlight had to be the black cat taking a crap outside the 'scenic' window and next to our table as we were preparing to leave. The cat was too late, we had already paid our exorbitantly high bill, which incidentally was incorrect when it was first presented. Had the cat 'dropped by' earlier he might have saved us the memories of this evening. Hopefully this review will save you. read more

I could hardly enjoy my meal for all the poor service going on around me. I watched one wait staff sabotage another wait person. Please train your people better. My husband and I have been so excited to visit this restaurant since we had viewed it from the water taxi on the St. John's three years ago. We finally went this last Saturday. We dressed up, ready for an elegant evening. We ordered a drink at the lounge because we were about 20 minutes early for our reservation at 7:00 p.m. The service was prompt and the drinks perfect. We were seated a few minutes before seven and were handed menus. We gave our drink order and waited at least 20 minutes before it arrived. We had two glasses of water before we even got our cocktails. The server took our order for an appetizer and dinner at the same time. Another long wait for the appetizer- the shrimp and cheese bruschetta. The topping was cold and the bread too hard to eat. We scraped the cheese off and left the rest. It sat in front of us for at least another half hour before it was taken away. Our food arrived at 8:22 p.m. (I checked my phone) and my shrimp and scallops were cold and the shrimp hard and overcooked. There were 3 small scallops, three small shrimp and a small pile of some cabbage side - billed at $36.00!My husband had ordered his steak well done and it arrived warm, tasteless and definitely rare. He kept sprinkling salt and pepper on it and finally gave up when he got to the bloodiest part. He had a spoonful of what was supposed to be garlic potatoes and he said they had no flavor either. I took a picture of what was left of his dinner. We were livid! After having waited so long for this experience we were deeply dispappointed. Our bill came to $110.0 for two drinks and that little bit of bland dinner. The server was inattentive and disappeared while we were looking for her. We only expected a quiet evening of good food in an elegant setting and superior service. We will never recommend this place to anyone. read more

I was excited about this restaurant because the location is incredible, right one the water, and the architecture of the building is really neat. But it was one of the worst dinners I've ever had. When we went in, the restaurant was mostly empty, but the hostess gave us attitude about not having a reservation. The food was abysmal (and I'm really not a picky eater)!! We tried the chopped salad, crab and avocado stack, lobster bisque, grouper special, and spring rolls. We sent back the spring rolls because they were basically inedible. We went last night for Christmas Eve dinner. The food can be best described as expensive and highly mediocre. The creamed spinach came to the table barely warm and tasted just awful. My husband liked the stuffed flounder, but my prime rib was tough and not up to par for the price. Even the baked potato was under-cooked and it's not hard to do a baked potato correctly. After further analysis and having to wait for the food and bad service I started wondering what kind of place this was. The kitchen were out of an item I ordered but I wasn't told until I've been waiting for quite a long while. The server didn't get me my drink way after I already ordered all the food and everything. I also noticed that on a regular time on a Saturday night there is unexpectedly little tables filled and very empty. Dined on 12/21/2017 - Upon entering the restaurant I immediately noticed that my feet were sticking to the floor as I approached the hostess area. There was also a strong bathroom smell in this area of the restaurant, unappetizing both for the smell and the sense that cleanliness was not of concern here. Our server was wonderful, he was professional, attentive and went above and beyond to give us excellent service, he was the only saving grace of the evening. The salad bar which is usually one of the highlights of dining at the Chart House was not well kept and you had to pick through the plates in the cooler to find a clean one. The blue cheese dressing I selected on my first trip to the salad bar was rancid tasting, I ended up making an entirely new salad with a different dressing and sending the first attempt back to the kitchen. I used to be a waitress and something truly has to be wrong for me to ever trouble someone with taking a dish back, I was worried this dressing might make me and other diners ill so in this situation I felt it warranted letting our waiter know. The waiter did share with me that the chef acknowledged something was indeed wrong with the blue cheese dressing and likely a new employee had made a mistake preparing it. Still gross.... For my entree, I had the scallops and shrimp, it was underwhelming especially at the price of this dish. It is very sad to see what used to be a dependable fine dining experience go downhill like this. The architecture of their building and the view are both beautiful. I went there on 6/15/15 around 6pm for happy hour drinks/apps. The place was busier than I thought it would be but not packed since we easily found a place to sit in the bar table area. After sitting for 4-6 minutes and watching the bartender walk by us twice without looking we knew we were in trouble. Another waiter also walked by us without looking our way. Finally, about 10 minutes after we sat down the bartender as he is once again walking by us without so much as a glance, "Excuse me can we order some drinks?". The bartender still doesn't look at us but loudly says "Give me a minute please!". We promptly got up and left - this bartender is in the wrong profession and needs to go. This was actually our 4th time in 6 weeks going to the CH (3 at the bar and 1 for dinner). The difference this time was the bartender was frazzled and couldn't take the pressure of the crowd. If he just would have looked our way ONCE and politely said he was swamped and it would be a few minutes we would have been completely understanding. We ended up going to BB's and having an INCREDIBLE $4 tempranillo for their HH. read more

This restaurant used to be one of the best places to eat in Jacksonville as recently as five or six years ago. The architecture is stunning and one of the most unique buildings you'll ever eat it. That said, the service and presentation did not live up to Charthouse standards. The food was very good but kind of thrown on the plate. There was no color or garnish or sauces to give it a gourmet touch. The salad bar used to be one of the highlights at Charthouse but the night I was there it looked like the one at Golden Corral. We had to find someone to make our Cesar Salad. The bottom line is this place needs to step it up and return to the very recent past of service and ambience. The wait staff used to be highly professional and our waiter was just a waiter. The first time I ate here twenty years ago the wait staff was absolutely top notch. This time it was only adequate. When I made the reservation, I mentioned it was for my husband's birthday. The moment we arrived, the hostess extended birthday wishes and immediately sat us. The waiter arrived within minutes and also wished my husband a happy birthday. That was just the beginning of a fabulous dinning experience. Even though we visited on a Saturday night, the waiter was very attentive and the food and drinks arrived quickly. I ordered an apple Martini and it was fabulous. For an appetizer, it was the crab cake and our main entrees were the crab stuffed flounder and chef's special which was a spicy crusted halibut with veggies and rice. We finished off the wonderful evening with the lava cake, which was a bit smaller than I remember but still delicious. We have visited Chart House on many occasions and all experiences have been wonderful. The only suggestion I could make is to please bring back the crab stuffed mushrooms!!! read more

Dinner for Valentines Day was horrible! Chart House is Over Over priced for the quality of food that is served. My wife ordered Scallops Gluten Free. She was served four quarter sized scallops on a plop of mashed potatoes with a scoop of plain steamed string beans for $31.00!! They put no effort to make it a tasty dish. It was like she was on a bland diet. My niece ordered a filet mignon well done. The first time they brought it to her, blood was coming out of it. She sent it back again. It comes back pink. She sent it back again! It returns medium well. Frustrated she didn't send it back again. Mind you there was mashed potatoes on her plate that kept going back and forth with the meat. They never changed out the potatoes so along with the meat that was not to her liking she had a cold lump of dirty, unpeeled mashed potatoes! By this time all of our food was cold because we were trying to eat at the same time. Instead of having a quiet nice dinner together it was frustrating and disappointing. The meals were served either with a vegetable or a starch. So you had to order side dishes to accommodate what was lacking. There were many other things wrong with our dinner experience. Our waiter was like a zombie. He never smiled, he had no enthusiasm. He made a terrible experience worse than it was!! We were angry and frustrated that we spent $400 and walked away with disappointment!! I could go on but reliving this experience makes me upset especially when I think we spent $400 for this CRAP!!! read more

As I was browsing selections,The Chart House came to mind and then I now remembered that I had forgotten to write our Christmas Eve dinner review. Dinner for 4 took almost 2 hours, starting with a wait time of almost 20 minutes before we were greeted, similar waits between every encounter with our unprofessional ,lack-luster server. She made no secret that she didn't want to be working on Christmas Eve. To save time the end result was the most incredibly long meal we've ever had in a restaurant that was almost empty during our time of incarceration, no sounds /music/people, flat environment, filthy windows, and with 4 different entree selections, all were at best, nursing home quality, barely warm food and all that for a mere $400. Save your money and the drive . This is NOT The Chart House you've eaten at in other cities. read more

Chart House used to be a favorite of ours - until this last visit. The atmosphere is great but the food and wait staff are sub par. We ordered a pomagrantie (sp) martini, which was excellent! The fried shrimp appetizer was cold, overcooked and stale tasting. The sauces that came with it could not save them. I ordered bourbon and peach shrimp and scallops. No bourbon or peach taste at all. It was some bland sauce out of a jar. The 4 scallops were really good, but the 4 shrimp were tough and very overcooked. The had a real shrimp *issue* that night. I also ordered the steamed asparagus which was tough and woody. My husband ordered the Ahi tuna with rice and a side of mushrooms. The tuna and mushrooms were very good, but the rice was inedible. How do you screw up rice? It needed pounding with a hammer. The bread/crackers and butter was ok (lol.) The waitress would ask us how everything was but never stopped at our table - she would ask (several times) on her way to the kitchen and we never had an opportunity to answer. This server had no personality whatsoever!! She never smiled once and when my husband mentioned it was my birthday, her response was "Oh." We did not order dessert. After dinner, my husband asked if I wanted to go into the bar, kick back and have another drink or two. I said NO - time to go somewhere else!! The place pretty much sucks and we will NEVER go back! On a side note, we were there pretty early, and we had no idea it was happy hour until we left and saw it on their sign in the parking lot. The server girl never said anything about it. I wish I could remember her name, because I would call her out! All of this for a tab of $140.00 (plus tip) for two of us.
