I screwed up my computer with a virus a few years ago and I called those Geeks, and they were a waste of my time, ended up getting a new computer. But for the last 6 years I have relied on Eric Lebron and his staff at ComputerHandyManMd to com come fix my stupid mistakes, and I am a sucker for malware. I eventually call Eric at Computer Handyman Eric is is patient because he understands the sensitivities of folks who are technology aware but diagnostically challenged. It is a good crew. And they come to your house! And they listen, And fix your damn computer with minimal price. Love this company. Listen for ads on WBAL radio Don't ask me about my vacuum cleaner....another review.

Unfortunately, John wasn't able to salvage any data from my hard drive while at my house, so he took the computer to his house to keep trying. I appreciated his efforts, but he had my computer a lot longer than I expected. That said, it was fried anyway, so I didn't really need it back. When we finally did connect, John returned my old computer and offered to spruce up Windows 8 on my new one (basically to make it work like Windows 7, which I prefer). It only took him a minute to do, but it made a big difference. All this to say that I highly recommend these guys. I'm hoping that my new computer doesn't have issues, but I'll call Eric and John if it does.

In a world where too…read moremany businesses are prone to simply take your money and give you "whatever" service in return (like The Geeks?), Sam & Company stands out as a shining example of how things should be. How many businesses these days do you know of that actually combine integrity and skill to deliver what they say they will - and at a reasonable cost? If you read the About section on their website, it mentions personal relationships with customers. That's no sales pitch - it's true. I've only had sporadic computer issues over the years and, amazingly, every time I've spoken with him, it's like talking to a friend. He knows his customers! Couple that with the fact that Sam broke away from the corporate world to bring his skills directly to the public and he's definitely earned my loyalty.

I found the basic price for service at $99 to be more than reasonable, though I was told that it would take about two weeks for my computer to be diagnosed. I paid the $75 expediting fee and given a timeframe of 2-3 days before diagnosis. I was then happy to get a call from them the next day with the diagnosis and plan of action. The day after that, my computer was ready for pickup, good as new. Overall, very happy with the experience.

I went to Best Buy initially (I don't know why, maybe I was feeling particularly stupid and…read morethick-headed at the time) and was told that to repair a broken LCD on a 400 dollar laptop would cost...300 dollars. Also, they would have to mail it in to the repair center. I asked why it was so expensive, and the guy said "well, LCDs are really expensive, so the part alone is 200 dollars". I was thinking, ok, who the fuck falls for this crap from a pasty dickwad like this guy? Who would ever think an LCD screen was more than 80 bucks on amazon or ebay? This is why Best Buy is going out of business. The employees that work there are shit. The products are generally shit (unless you firmly deny geek squad protection, warranty protection, repair plans, 5 year soul sucking plans, etc), and honestly they operate on the assumption that Americans are stupid. Yo, Best Buy, we have wikipedia and google, man. Stop being so 1999. Anyway, I called up Charm City Networks, and they said "yeah the part is like 60-80 bucks, but you can buy it online and bring it in and we just charge for labor". They charged 100 bucks for labor(fair enough) and so I went in to see if it was just the LCD that had a problem. They checked the computer, fixed it within a day, and I picked it up the next day after lunch. It was as easy and painless as possible, and affordable as hell. The guys that work there are very nice and helpful, and generally will go out of their way to make sure you have a great customer experience. Everything in that last paragraph is the exact opposite of Best Buy...which is why I recommend these guys for any computer/laptop hardware repair work.
