Ordered the gyro platter for takeout. They forgot to give me the salad and the tzatziki sauce, so what I got was a container of meat strips and a container of small, quartered bread. That is not what a gyro looks like. My friend loved his cheesesteak, so maybe I will get that next time, but I don't think there will be a next time. read more

I used to love Charlie's. The chicken was definitely worth the best of NH title. Unfo the ownership changed in the last year. I just got a chocken tender plate with fries. The fries were salted so much it was inedible. The chicken tenders were tiny and not much meat. They looked as if they were leftover from yesterday and re-fried as the batter was dark. Wow, this was the best meal I've eaten out in a very long time. Being that I'm vegan, it's very difficult for me to find menu items at restaurants that I'm able to eat. The times I do find things to eat, it usually doesn't taste so exciting. As a new residents of Manchester in search of our new favorite sub shop, THE SEARCH IS OVER. This place not only has better subs than any of our favorite places in the Boston area, the staff are super nice! We ordered delivery for dinner night one, and there was a minor snafu on our delivery BUT it was a blessing in disguise. We got to try even more of their delicious menu than we expected. They have redefined chicken tender. The Ritz cracker ones are delicate and buttery, the Italian ones are light and tasty and the coconut ones are mind blowing. The fries are handcut magic. The subs are legit, the Italian sub was filled with quality cold cuts, the chicken Parm was an extension of their amazing chicken tenders in a sub format with the added bonus of sauce and cheese. Again this was an order with a minor snafu, and it blew us away. The following day, knowing the quality of the food we got across the board, we now craved the couple things the delivery mixed up the night prior. So we ordered AGAIN for lunch... SO HAPPY WE DID! I have never had a better chunk steak and cheese ANYWHERE! They are better than Carl's, better than TC Landos. My wife said the same of the teriyaki chicken sub she ordered. Stopped in today for lunch for the first time. The special board had Waffle Tenders and I knew that's what I was going to get. They were so tender and juicy with the perfect amount of powdered sugar on top. No fries included but you didn't need any being that they were 5 HUGE tenders. Absolutely perfect! The staff were very kind and worked quickly. Everyone seemed to work well together and they all seemed happy. The restaurant was very clean and had enough seating for the lunch crowd. How long does fast food take? Well, very long because this place isn't fast. We ordered a gyro, spanokopita, and an order of the haddock and chicken tenders. The guy at the register pointed at the display fridge and said that's the spanokopita. It's in plastic. In a fridge. I mean, can you heat it? Apparently not. Why have it on the menu if I have to drive home over an hour, preheat my oven to warm my food? Oh, but wait - there's more! After 30 minutes, my husband was handed a box and brought it out to the car. Soooo, where's the gyro? He goes back in to get my gyro. I looked in the box. Fries and chicken fingers. No haddock. It's not his order. So I brought that back in. 20 minutes later, my husband returns with a bag. I didn't get the extra tzatziki sauce I ordered and got charged extra for. The amount of fries with my gyro was paltry and the fries were the only good things. The chicken fingers were very hot but not crispy. How do you do that? My husband said the fish had no flavor. Okay, drown in in tartar sauce. My gyro was okay, but the meat was on the rubbery side and had a strange tartness to it. Almost $32 and an hour wait for shitty food. Hey guys, pro tip: If we give you a 20% tip on the credit card receipt before you even make the food, we are the people you don't want to treat like garbage. We don't have a lavish budget, but we try to support small business during this fractured economy. So tipping is our way of saying we appreciate you doing your job. Picked up a chicken tender plate with french fries and sweet-and-sour sauce. The chicken tenders were wilting so soggy like they had been cooked and sat there in their oil and then just before pick up throw them back in the oil. And to boot the 12th chicken tender was about a half inch pencil size so in reality got 11 chicken fingers for a 12 chicken finger dinner price. The french fries were way overcooked and as limp and soggy as can be and the sweet-and-sour sauce was from Kens. It was not even homemade sauce. The Puritan back room is 100 times better, will never go back. We ate the food immediately in your parking lot and therefore it did not happen in transport! read more

The food space inside the Mobil Mart at the corner of Mast Rd and Daniel Plummer Rd reopened as Charlie's. This space has been home to several former eateries in recent years including The Gyro Stop, Pasta Kings and Pinardville House of Pizza. Charlie's is an order at the counter spot serving up homemade chicken tenders, fried haddock, hand cut fries, sandwiches, burgers, subs, salads, wings, gyros, and Greek style pizza (slices ready to eat and whole pies). Most of the food is made to order. The prices here seem reasonable. I stopped in here recently for takeout. I ordered a Chicken Alfredo Sub ($4.99) and 5 pc Coconut Chicken Tenders with Fries ($8.99). The Chicken Alfredo Sub was good and had chicken tenders with lettuce, tomato, onions, covered with cream alfredo sauce on a soft sub roll. The Coconut Chicken Tenders with Hand Cut Fries were outstanding. The tenders were covered with sweet coconut flakes and deep fried and the hand cut fries were crisp and soft inside. These boneless chicken tenders IMO were better than some of the established long time spots in Manchester, in particular a very popular family restaurant & bar on the north side where I've chewed on grizzle in their tenders. This place was awesome! Hidden in a gas station but is a fantastic food joint. The chicken fingers are fresh and the mozzarella sticks are homemade. You can tell they area cut fresh from a cheese block and the taste is amazing. The Philly cheesesteak has really good flavor, they are only missing cheesewiz like you can get in Philadelphia. Although food is good very rude workers who on one occasion bad mouthed other restaurants in the area. I dismissed that but most recently was hung up on because I called before they were open. A worker answered but then refused to take my order and instead of politely saying they were not open yet and could I call back later, I got an abrupt "call back later" at least I think that was said as it was fast and then she hung up. Okay, this is definitely a gripe! It's taking me a couple of days to calm down and digest what even happened. My family and I ordered dinner from Charlie's at 5:15 on Friday evening, as we usually do at least once a week if not more. Who knows how often my boys go, they absolutely love it! I have promoted this restaurant on more than one occasion, always thought the food was amazing. I know how busy this place can be & always expect a wait. They told us it would be about 45 minutes to an hour, fine no problem. We were hungry, but again, worth the wait. After an hour I headed in to get our food, paid & had to wait a bit more, no problem....while I was standing there waiting next to the kitchen (if you have ever been in, you know it's tight quarters) the owner, manager, who he claimed to be, was cooking. We ordered a Gyro dinner, a Chicken Gyro dinner & a Steak Gyro dinner. I'm not blaming the super sweet kid behind the register, because he wasn't aware either, but I guess they don't make a Steak gyro "dinner". The manager was pissed, bitching about "this is why it isn't on the menu, we don't make this, they are just getting the sandwich!" He was not happy. I understand that they were busy, extremely busy, I was even going to post about what a wonderful job they were doing, how hard they were working, but after his hissy fit, I decided not too. I felt bad for the workers, he wasn't being very pleasant to them. I get that you are stressed and things are hectic, but do you need to talk to people the way you do? My job is very stressful too, I was crazy busy all day too, but if I talked to anyone that way, I would probably be out of business by now... On with the story.... So I went to the register, back to the sweet boy & asked him for the difference in cost because the sandwich was 6.99 & the dinners we 9.99, so he gladly gave me the $3. I stuck a $5 in the tip jar for how hard they were working. At this point it was an hour & 20 minutes we waited, but again it's usually worth it & we were heading home to eat. Mind you, when I got in the van to head home, I had to explain to my extremely hangry husband that they couldn't accommodate his Steak gyro "dinner" & the manager took it upon himself to just make it the sandwich. The Chicken Gyro isn't listed as a dinner either, but somehow that wasn't an issue. We get home, about 15 minutes away from the Mobile, unpack our dinner & there's no Steak Gyro sandwich, just French fries. Our other 2 dinners were there, but no Steak gyro sandwich. My husband was pretty upset & again, extremely hangry at this point. We knew we couldn't call to complain, because they took their phone off the hook & the manager told the store owner, that he wasn't taking calls, because people were calling the store to get through at this point. So,,,,we get back in the van to head back to Charlie's,,,,we go in & are not happy at this point because now it's 7:00 almost 2 hours from when we originally ordered our dinner. We ask for the manager, he comes over with this pissy look on his face & says what do you want me to do for you, I said it would have been nice if you just filled the order to begin with & then tell us you don't normally make these, so for future reference....or call us to let us know this isn't on the menu, would you like something else instead? Don't just stick someone with something they didn't even order. Words were exchanged back and forth between us & him, because he had a hard day & he didn't need this. He reached into the register threw money at us & told us to never come back! WHAT? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? You "F" up & have to deal with an upset customer and you tell them to never come back, no food in return after waiting 2+ hours for food? Do you even know how many customers you just lost? I'm also in the people pleasing business and you can bet that this will be my topic of conversation for quite sometime. Sorry to not be able to come back, we really loved your food, but you are not the only game in town & if you keep talking to people the way you do, I have a feeling not too many people are going to like you very much.
